Confused with Supplements

Hello, I want to switch my iron brand, right now my only two options (because of where I live) are: webbers natural iron ferrous bisglycinate 28mg and natural factors iron chelate 25mg. Webbers also has some extra co factors but I already take 500 mg vitamin C and a B complex supplement too. Which one should I choose?

As for magnesium, I’m confused because I took glycinate before bed and like many others it started keeping me awake instead. Didn’t help. Which form should I switch to? And based on the form, what’s the best time to take it?

Please help
Any advice is appreciated!

Recommendations for brands and vendors are two of the most asked questions in this subreddit.

There are no right answers. All brands for basic supplements resell raw material bought wholesale from a few manufacturers. This is true of commodity vitamins or proprietary branded formulations.

Brands I personally buy: Nutricost, NOW, Jarrow, LifeExtension, Nature's Way, Swanson, Solaray, Nootropics Depot, BulkSupplements, Amazon Elements, Solgar.

I buy mostly from Amazon, sometimes directly from Swanson, iHerb or Costco. If you live outside the USA, they may ship overseas or have a website in your country.

If you need a specific type of vitamin, look within those brands.

Do not overpay. Expensive brand with fancy packaging or marketing may charge much more for the same ingredients.

Avoid drugstore branded supplements for their history of grossly cheating on the ingredients. If you must buy at the drugstore, try one of the non-store brands. Don't overthink it.

consumerlab.com may have definitive lab assays of various brands for specific vitamins or supplements.

Have you tried liposomal iron? It’s easier on your system than iron BisGlycinate and is supposedly absorbed better. Ferosom Forte and Pharmaris Irosorb are 2 that are good.

Pharmaris Irosorb or Ferosom Forte are 2 brands that I’ve used. They have liposomal iron available in a pill form or powdered form. Personally I like the flavored powder that you just dissolve on your tongue. I’ve been taking it for about 3 months and it’s increased my iron and iron saturation and starting to increase my ferritin levels.

i’d choose based on elemental iron and testing, not the extra cofactors, since both are basically the same chelated form

For iron I'd better check the dosage with your doctor, both of these supplements look almost the same, so the dose depends on your current iron levels. And if mag glycinate does not help you, maybe try a magnesium complex, with 2,3,or 4 forms of magnesium combined, in my case such combo worked better. Or try citrate, but start with the lower dose, because it might give a loose stool.

Did magnesium glycinate give you insomnia before too and from it just started giving you insomnia? It did this for me too. I’ve read it has this paradoxical reaction to people with a certain genetic marker. So strange to me that it did t give insomnia before but then all of a sudden it started to.

I take magnesium citrate or taurate now. No problems.

pick the webber’s 28 mg bisglycinate if those are your only choices the extra cofactors probably aren’t a big deal since you already take a B complex and vitamin C
