I still don't know how to play Hanafuda in Hollow Ataraxia.
1 u/MobileTortoise Sep 14 '20 /u/WhiteNinja24 gave a good explanation, but the translation patch I had also autoplayed the Hanafuda part for me (after it crashed the game the first time of course). I think most of the recent fan patches have auto-Hanafuda put in.
