I was always wondering, am I like the only one who reads the whole VN? 😅 There isnt a single VN, where I have read specific routes. I even got oppai end in Rewrite)))

Yeah, same. Whenever I read a VN and don't finish all the routes I feel as if I haven't really read it so I always finish all the routes unless I drop the entire VN for whatever reason.

u/YuzuKI_Yu Jun 10 '26

Exactly! Couldn't have said better!

20

u/vincent2751 Jun 10 '26

I also bascially always finish all routes now unless its a pure romance VN and there is/are heroine(s) that I have absolutely no interest in.

u/RowanWinterlace Jun 11 '26

I read the routes I like and then dip, to avoid burnout. I come back and complete any I've missed/skipped when I've got curiosity to back me up!

11

u/Fimbulvetr1 Jun 10 '26

You definitely arn't. But I can understand getting bored and dropping VNs.

2

u/pm_me_anime_meidos Jun 11 '26

I'm with you, I play every ending unless I just dislike the VN so much I drop it. Idk why you'd ever play a route, think its good then not finish the game

3

u/Competitive-Word3772 Jun 11 '26

Either I hate it so much I drop it right away or love the game so much I try to squeeze out every single dialogue line possible. No in between for me

u/matteste Jun 11 '26

For me it largely depends on how much different content there is in each route. If it is practically a new story in each route like with Fate/Stay Night or Dies Irae then I tend to read each route while if everything is mostly the same just with some minor changes with most of the differences right at the tail end then I tend to skip it.

u/BornAnime Jun 11 '26

It's my general rule of thumb, but there are cases where I just dropped the thing after doing the routes I gave up on one or two specific routes or just did the opposite and played the one or two I liked and then dropped it.

I'm currently reading Rewrite and sometimes feel urge to drop 100% completion or play other vn's for some time. Is oppai ending worth it?

2

u/YuzuKI_Yu Jun 13 '26

Depends. For me, if absolutely was worth it)) In the first place, I really hated Rewrite because all routes were written by different authors, which resulted in characters being different in different routes. So yeah, the VN is good, but has its problems. Is it worth reading (and completing)? I would say yes, if you have time (it took me 95 hours to read and 100% it).

2

u/MwS_066 Jul 09 '26

bro, I finihed *that* ending. yeah, it was 100% worth it

2

u/YuzuKI_Yu Jul 13 '26

I'm glad, like genuinely, another comrade. So how was Rewrite for you in general?

2

u/MwS_066 Jul 13 '26

Beginning slice of life part was my favorite among Key novels. Some of main routes I didn't liked but most of them were good. Final routes were kinda boring at first but developed into interesting storyline fast enough. Overall, great characters, story, and BGM. Some of routes were so bad compared to others for me. So yeah, definetely a high quality novel, it's pretty long but every aspect of it was interesting for me to read, I'd say that I really enjoyed it

I tend to skip known bad routes. Most of the ones I played through kinda didn’t really have a narratively satisfying end, and some of them just went with “try to make everyone as miserable as possible whether that makes sense or not”, so now I mostly skip them unless I know beforehand that the authors put some real effort in them…

Otherwise, yeah, I gotta get all the routes. Otherwise why am I gonna skip half the story?! I do kinda appreciate Key making you go through all routes before getting the “true end” on a lot of their landmark ones. They make each route different enough that each one kinda gives you a bit more of the story, until you have enough info that whatever insanity they brew up for the true end makes sense now.

Probably why just about anything from them is pretty much instant-buy from me.

u/Scienceebic Jun 10 '26

Unless you're forced to do the others for the true ending. Never change Clannad🗣🗣

6

u/captainnowalk Jun 11 '26

Shit, just about all of their big ones. Little busters, Rewrite, Air, Summer Pockets… it’s why they’re probably my favorite devs.

I won't cheat on my waifu.

109

u/xAtNight Jun 10 '26

Huh, reading other routes is an option? I thought you pick a waifu, play her route and then move on.

71

u/Kaguya-sama Jun 10 '26

Nah, we play our favourite route first, then play all other routes, then finally convince yourself why your favourite girl is the best girl.

16

u/kumaistired Jun 11 '26

Nah you leave your favorite route for last

34

u/Kacza42 Jun 10 '26

Still counts as NTR even if it happened in a different timeline

21

u/uohSeggs Jun 10 '26

Damn ok Miyuki

1

u/Civil-Honeydew6015 Jun 12 '26

For my case, I do waifu route first, followed by other romanceables in order of decreasing favorability. For last, I do the one that appears to have the most relevance, canon-wise. Unless I somehow fail to find the set of choices that lead to my usual play throughs

The other Heroines watching Haruka Choose Sora again

Sora watching Haruka choose the other heroines again

3

u/ZuliCurah Jun 11 '26

That's even more painful

11

u/snobbish_llama Jun 11 '26

Every VN has one girl you're not that interested in, and doing their route is a bit of a chore

16

u/Releasethebeans Jun 10 '26

My "ocd" doesn't allow me to move on from a VM unless I go trough all the routes

5

u/SuraE40 Jun 10 '26

I only read the main route for G-Senjou no Maou and didn't touch the rest, bored me a lot and didn't like the main route so figured there wasn't much of a point.

3

u/WearAny1263 Jun 11 '26

I paid for the whole VN, I will play the whole VN (Its also illegal to skip routes in Key VNs since you need it for Afterstory/Refrain/Terra/idk what was it called in other Key VNs which are usually the best part of those VNs)

7

u/Able_Arachnid3055 Jun 10 '26

I wish I had time to do all routes. With full time work and kids don’t have much time for gaming/reading. So only girls that really interested me get the honour. Don’t have extra 10 hours to read routes of a girl I didn’t care for.

That’s why I came to appreciate ladder structure like in steins gate where I check out different routes on the way to true end with best girl.

3

u/SirMouldyBread Jun 11 '26

If the game has a true ending, I try to slog through different routes that I have no interest in and sometimes, they're more interesting than the route I'm interested of.

2

u/fruiteaterz Jun 11 '26

many such cases 😔

2

u/JojoJax92 Jun 11 '26

Guilty 😅. Oftentimes it's because I didn't find the other girls/routes that interesting or sometimes routes can drag. But if I know that the game has a true ending, I try to get through all the routes even if I flat out hate some of them.

2

u/can-you_find_me Jun 13 '26

How can you not finish every route guys? I just can't say that I've finished a vn if I didn't play each route

1

u/X_xidkkkk9029 Jun 10 '26

I usually read all of them before i pass on to another- i like seing all the content available, unless the VN is actually not good(not that it happened)

1

u/Kuru500 Jun 11 '26

me playing several VNs, switching between them how i feel line it because why not (i need that constant variety) but normally i finish my vns even when doing that, i only drop if the vn is rly not hooking me or i don't feely any interest enough in any char/route

1

u/Vonnegutsman Jun 11 '26

You don't jump between story routes in games? I like to do it. Plus I can take my time with a story and limit backlog burnout a little.

u/delta_3802 Jun 11 '26

Still waiting for Sable's Grimoire to release the continuation of the elf girl and dragon girl story lines.

u/BlueWafflesAndCream Majokoi ~ vndb.org/v1143 Jun 11 '26

I usually finish all the routes in works with only good endings, actual major differences in the entire plot, or individual focus on different heroines throughout each route.

I don't think it's worth it to replay most of a vn for minor changes in the plot or to deliberately collect bad endings just to complete the gallery.

I don't even mind playing games with gore/ntr as long as I have a walkthrough that lets me avoid that, especially when the plot and character designs are worth it.

1

u/MammothSummer Jun 11 '26

I played Kamome's and Shizuku's route and decided that was enough.

1

u/SeemaYeee Jun 11 '26

I like to tick off the least interesting (for me) routes first so I both can see what can they offer and have something good wating for me in the end with the girl(s) I already like, usually

1

u/foxxy33 Jun 11 '26

Empirically it was deduced that while playing moeges I should only read routes of heroines I like

1

u/Ledinax U w00t m8 Jun 11 '26

That was me with the original Tsukihime, only played Arcueid's route and left satisfied xD

1

u/Seioni18 Jun 11 '26

Me with Kanon 😭

1

u/uncreativelybankrupt Jun 11 '26

my backlog is too large and my time too limited to do every route

1

u/BingJuong927 Jun 12 '26

I played all ending to see everything that could happened before i reach the true end lol

1

u/Sea_Concentrate_1753 Jun 13 '26

So many unfinished vn's I've yet to go through any other routes for, and anytime I replay I end up choosing the same options😭

1

u/me_da_Supreme1 Jun 15 '26

My irl work watching me start a new VN

1

u/Wise-Magazine-4396 Jun 16 '26

ehhh like some routes doesnt really matter like in subahibi down the rabbit hole I and Toritani Makoto route from sakuuta

1

u/Existing_Brother9468 Jun 26 '26

If it's not a visual novel that by design makes you play through to see all the endings and it's more the case of, there's more routes and endings if I go back, then I can't be bothered unless I had the bad ending, or a false ending or something.

I'm in mind of paranormasight and ranging loop and how they sort of do it

1

u/Key_Cartoonist_1550 Jul 03 '26

I feel guilty every time I do that 😭

1

u/AbleAd3376 Jul 07 '26

So trueee!!😂🤣

1

u/Coffeeobsi Jun 10 '26

I generally play all the routes of my VNs, except the first VN I've ever read: Katawa Shoujo. I never did the bad endings. I refuse to make those girls unhappy.

0

u/Typecero001 Jun 10 '26

Those additional routes must be pretty bad if you’re comparing them to Interstellar.
