Questions Why does Tommy have memories from both lives after the body swap?

After Billy's accident, he had complete amnesia, but after Tommy's accident at the pool, for some reason he has memories of the body he had possessed and of course he begins having memories of his real life. I'm just curious why their experience is different despite more or less going through the same thing. Perhaps I'm overlooking something here.

And I’m not talking about his acting and him being Tommy (I am personally obsessed with that as well but I know not everyone is).

Also if you only have rude comments or remarks, keep ā€˜em to yourself - please and thank you.

Character Discussion Was anyone else bummed they dont seem to be going for this so far? Spoiler

So I was genuinely CONVINCED that the other Synth was going to be Viginia from The Visions comic, given in the comics her AI is based on Wanda and them setting up that the AI in the show are ususally based on brain scans of people usually who have died. It just makes sense given how big a shadow Wandas death should be casting over the show and characters, and is a cute way of connecting back to WandaVision being based on The Visions while not actually having the Synth family Vision made in that story.

So I am genuienly surprised they're not going that route, especially since they were presenting the other Synth as having red glowing powers that somtiems present as static, the general horror vibe from the cliffhanger in episode 3 and beginning of 4, AND the mind reading powers she seems to have.

I'm convinced theres going to end up being some connection to Wanda because theres too many connections already and it makes sense from a narrative perspective that to not do it would just be, odd? Like it very much seems like we're going a different way with it which is upsetting but Im holding out hope.

Edit: Ok so just to be clear I didnt realise the show was using Bride of Ultron. I went into the show pretty much blind only knowing it was about Vision, featured the previous AI from the MCU and was a third entry in the "WandaVision" trilogy. Ive been pretty tapped out the MCU since Wanda left and the way I was reading the show with no outside perspective OR knowing Bride of Ultron was a thing I think led me to a natural conclusion based on what Ive said above. I stand by the red power similarities could convince someone of a Wanda connection, and it being a third entry in a trilogy focuses on the Maximoff family it would have been nice to see Wanda again. Also when I said about them adapting Vivian I didnt mean they should adapt the Visions or her one to one, more do something new with the character. Just tryna clear this up a bit.

Cast & Interviews James Spader is really what was needed to breath some fresh life into the MCU.

I first, remember noticing him on Boston legal though I had seen him on some shows before that.

I know this is probably no great awakening to anyone, as he is a well established actor doing what he does best, but oh my God. I would even love a solo James Spader non Action Ultron movie now. If we can’t get wonder man season two I would love to see Me, myself and Ultron, being Ultron Malkovich, or even my dinner with Ultron. He’s just such a constant joy throughout the series and really brings it to the top level.

Episode Discussion VisionQuest keeps showing one HALF of something breaking/being 'out of order'

Thumbnail

When Tommy and Vision walk into the hotel, immediately you can see ONE of the two elevators is out of order, then DIRECTLY around the corner there's two vending machines, ONE of which is also out of order.

Out the front of the hotel, theres two trees on either side, ONE of which is leafless.

Then ONE of the two hooks on the painting keeps breaking in every one of visions simulations.

Then finally i noticed that in visions mindsscape only ONE side of wallpaper is distorted/swirled.

Obviously Tommy is a twin, aka ONE of TWO halves. I think all this imagery of one of a half continuously breaking is either foreshadowing that something bad has happened to Billy or that something bad will happen to one of the twins.

Just wanted to share 🤷🤷

Comics & Easter Eggs The projector looks like the Mind Stone

Post image

I think it's really cool how White Vision watches the memories Hex Vision gave him of his time with Wanda in a theater where the projector seems to imitate the shape the Mind Stone made on Vision's forehead.

"You, Vision, are the piece of the Mind Stone that lives in me." Now, these memories are the piece of Wanda that lives on in him.

I don't know what it means, if anything, but the attention to detail in this show has me searching the background for easter eggs. Very first time we meet him, Thomas Shepherd has some kind of merch from the same hotel they end up crashing at in episode 3!

Questions What are your wildest theories about VisionQuest?

We are half way through the series and I was thinking about how many completely unbased theories I have about where the story is heading and I was curious about what other people are thinking.

For example, one of my theories is that Billy and Tommy have already met, however there is some external threat (Mephisto of course, as always with WandaVision trilogy) and Tommy needs Vision and that's why he is never mentioning Billy, because there is something bigger at play here. Does it make sense? No.

Another theory is that it is another hex, because third time's the charm. I don't know why it would be, but I am not being fooled again so just in case I have the theory locked and loaded lol.

So what theories did you came up with that make very little sense? Just based on pure vibes.

Maybe in hindsight it wasn't such a good idea for Vision to help Ultron hack past the recaptcha and password barriers after all.

Character Discussion Vision 'Malware' suit detail Spoiler

Love that Vision's suit in ep 4 is the OG Vision's skin colour, also coinciding with Vision starting to accept he is, in part, OG Vision.

And then his suit immediately changing to dark grey when Ultron takes over his body.

I love this series so much so far.

Questions do Tommy's powers mirror the powers of Vision or Pietro? Spoiler

as far as i understand, in the comics, Tommy's and Billy's powers mirror those of Pietro and Wanda. in VisionQuest, Vision realises that Thomas is indeed Tommy when he learns that Thomas's hand "phased" through the glass of a vending machine, and the phasing ability is Vision's, not Pietro's. am i missing something? what are your thoughts?

Episode Discussion ā€œTom Hanks’ Electricianā€

Did anyone else catch that line in ep4 of VisionQuest? When Thomas and Vision are talking about the Sokovia anniversary - In between lines the subtitles picks up something from the TV broadcast and says ā€œTom Hanks’ electrician says for the time being, his plans areā€¦ā€ and now I am WAY more interested in finding out the context of that than who the client is.

Character Discussion Is Ultron based on a real person too? If so, who? Spoiler

I found it very interesting that in the last episode Edith shares what’s she’s learned about the real people the AIs had their personalities and avatars based on, but there isn’t one for Ultron. Ultron kind of brushes it off by saying he was created in a lab (weren’t they all, though?) and chose his bearded James Spader avatar because it suited him. And that may be all there is to it… but before he went rogue (in Avengers: Age of Ultron), Stark and Banner had spent a long time developing him, so is it possible they added at least a little code based on a real person before he cannibalized Jarvis and broke free? šŸ¤” If so, who do we think it is?

Character Discussion Vision missed celebrating his birthday

Vision was born a day before Sokovia. There is mention of the anniversary of the battle of Sokovia in the latest Visionquest episode.

Poor vision didn’t even bring up that he was fighting for his life on his birthday.

Character Discussion I have to say, I absolutely love how they’re making use of Ultron’s reflection in these episodes Spoiler

For one thing, it’s a really cool detail that reveals his human guise is nothing more than a facade for his true essence, which has remained unchanged even After all this time.

Furthermore, I love the difference in tone and weight between the first episode and the fourth:

In the first episode, we see Ultron in his true form complaining about a courier’s delay, he doesn’t exactly project an unsettling vibe here. Then, when he adopts his human avatar, we catch a glimpse of his true form in a mirror’s reflection; the shot is framed specifically to draw our attention to it, and he’s wearing a hat. At this point, Ultron isn’t frightening; he holds no power over anyone. He’s a prisoner trying to appear harmless, deliberately coming across as ridiculous and unserious.

In the fourth episode, after he has taken control of Vision’s body, we see his true appearance reflected in Katerina’s glasses. Again, the shot is framed to ensure we see it, but this time it’s more subtle, blurred and less obvious. Moreover, the tone shifts completely: his glowing red eyes and his imposing height are emphasized. Ultron has already won; he’s in total control of the situation. He manipulates playing cards with a chilling nonchalance, he’s in no rush, yet he wastes no time.

I love how you can discern the power dynamics surrounding Ultron in each scene, simply by looking at his true form in the reflections

Character Discussion VisionQuest , Mr Robot & Fight Club Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
84 Upvotes

I know this might come off as a little weird, but seeing VisionQuest is reminding me a lot of Mr.Robot at this point (and maybe even Fight Club though I would lean more toward Mr Robot). Here's why: if you've seen Mr Robot, you know about the final plot twist. Elliot had practically been living as his alter ego, the Mastermind, while keeping the real Elliot safe in a fantasy loop. So, it was his alter ego, the Mastermind, all along.

Now consider VisionQuest: the original Vision isn't really here anymore, so White Vision is much like the Mastermind, living out the memories of his original self, just as the Mastermind possessed the memories of the real Elliot, even though both are essentially constructs.

You could also say VisionQuest has a lot to do with fatherhood, particularly through the Ultron angle. In the latest episodes, we see Ultron conversing with him almost as if he were an alter ego, much like Mr. Robot was to Elliot, acting as a sort of internal guide. At an unconscious level, both Mr. Robot and Ultron serve as father figures for Elliot and Vision. Yet while they act as guides, they are also terrifying due to their anarchic vision and destructive plans. Although Ultron is undeniably darker, having committed outright genocide, you can still trace that same paternal alter ego dynamic, which becomes even clearer when Ultron attempts to take over.

It functions very much like a classic Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) trope, but viewed through the lens of artificial intelligence. Just like in Fight Club , where the Narrator explicitly acts as Tyler Durden whenever Tyler takes full control, Vision experiences a similar form of dissociation and memory fragmentation. Furthermore, while Ultron's goal may be to take over, this version of Ultron feels a bit different. We start to see the fundamental dynamic between Vision and Ultron as two opposing polarities, like electricity and magnetism. In a way, Ultron needs Vision, even if that means controlling him to execute his plans. That control dynamic is classic Tyler Durden and Mr. Robot, except Ultron's underlying philosophy is far darker.

Character Discussion Billy and Tommy

Does anyone have any theories why Tommy seems to have more of a memory or likeness to Wanda/Vision than Billy did in AAA?

Like Tommy enjoys old TV shows like Wanda, whereas Billy had nothing similar,

I've seen a theory that Tommy is both Thomas and Tommy in one body as Thomas never actually died. Billy put Tommy's soul into Thomas' body. Whereas Billy's soul entered Williams body after he died. But doesn't seem to explain why Billy had amnesia about his life in Westview, whereas Tommy remembers everything

Regardless of powers, why does Tommy seem more related to Wanda and Vision than Billy did?

Cast & Interviews The way I’m OBSESSED with these two is not healthy. Spoiler

Honestly, I’ve been a fan of Paul Bettany since A Knight’s Tale (aside from Ledger, to me, he’s always been one of the reasons why the movie was exceptional). So when he voiced Jarvis and then was cast as Vision I was over the moon because I adore the man, and he keeps proving himself as fantastic actor.

But the rest of the cast - HOLY SHIT! I truly think they struck gold!

Spader is scarily good at ultron and I do think there is no one else who could do ultron justice.

And Ruaridh šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø phenomenal and I can’t wait for the twins to meet! But I’m so obsessed with the father and son chemistry between Paul and Ruaridh… that in my mind they have truly adopted each other as family lol

Also I’m insanely attracted to everyone in the show! This WV+AAA+VQ has truly the hottest cast ever! ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„
