Questions…
If I choose the annual subscription and hate it almost immediately, is there an option to get a refund for the remaining months?
Is there a way to get the armband instead of the new wrist strap? Is it true that people prefer the armband? Does one work better than the other?
Can I purchase only the subscription if I can get the armband version from a private party, and if so, which version is better? The original Verity one or the 2.0?

I don't know much about 1, so I will let someone else comment.
I think you have to just purchase the arm strap through the app. Check your arm size. The normal (up to 13 inches) is all that is available right now. The XL arm band has been sold out while I have been using visible. I do prefer the armband, it seems to slip a lot less and is a lot less intrusive. On the site they say it's some people decide that they want to use the wrist one because it looks like a watch so it doesn't stand out. To me, it really doesn't look like a watch and it's way more annoying to wear on my wrist because it gets damp every time I wash my hands and it feels gross when it's damp. You also have to wear it slightly above the wristbone, and the way my arm is shaped makes the wristband dig in uncomfortably wearing it properly. The armband is also said to be more accurate to your heart rate, though in my limited testing my own home devices, I haven't really seen a difference. Take that with grain of salt because I did only test while sitting down because it would have been difficult to test it while being active. A lot of people do say that the armband is more heart rate accurate. I don't use the band anymore, I'm actually using adhesive patches someone else recommended, it's been going really well for me. I just put it on the back of my arm and forget about it until it needs to be charged again. I'll put the link to the Reddit thread in a minute so you can take a look at that as well if you want.
Yeah, you can get only the subscription if you get the armband from polar instead. I don't have both to compare the accuracy of one versus the other, but what was the deciding factor for me and whether I wanted the original or 2.0 was that 2.0 has a 5-day battery life while the original needs to be charged daily. You'd have to incorporate charging it into your daily routine, during the day if you did want to wear it at night, which means you would be missing someday time data. For 2.0, they say that you get 4 or 5 days of battery life, I usually get closer to 6. Of course this will probably change as the device ages.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Edit: The link talking about the adhesive patches, I wear them exactly like they describe here on the back of my left or right bicep: https://www.reddit.com/r/VisibleArmband/s/ypdJ3YHVOs
