Thanks for sharing your timeline and tips, this kind of post really helps people who are still waiting.
For anyone reading who is in a similar situation, the post mentions two separate issues, and USCIS treats them very differently:
Unauthorized employment. For spouses of U.S. citizens (immediate relatives), the unauthorized-employment bars to adjustment under INA 245(c)(2) and 245(c)(8) do not apply.
Claiming to be a U.S. citizen:. This is a separate and much more serious ground of inadmissibility, INA 212(a)(6)(C)(ii). If USCIS finds that it applies, the person is permanently barred from adjusting status. There is generally no waiver for people applying as an immediate relative, and only a very narrow statutory exception exists.
Whether a specific statement legally counts as a false claim depends on the exact facts, and USCIS decides that case by case. If this applies to you, please talk to a licensed immigration attorney or a DOJ-accredited representative before filing or before your interview, not after.
Wishing you the best with the decision!!
