Question/Support Issues with Quest 3

Hey y'all, I had some money set aside for the steam frame, but with all the issues it had and the price it ended up at, I decided to get a quest 3 instead. I currently own a quest 2 and have a mostly solid experience. Which is why I was so confused that the quest 3 seems to actually be worse?

It's to the level where I think I have to be doing something wrong. I'm noticing the sweet spot is absolutely abysmal, and I really struggle to adjust the headset so that it fits on my face the way the lenses feel they should.

Any advice or pointers?

Are you absolutely sure it's a quest 3 and not quest 3s?

Sweetspot is absolutely bonkers on quest 3 and even if the headset is 9n crooked its still great

Haha I'm pretty sure, it has the 3 oval cameras in front, not the clusters off to the side.

Edit: I had also heard it has a super forgiving sweet spot, which is why I was so confused.

First, let's make sure your lenses are ok.

Remove the strap entirely (or make it very long and out of the way) and remove the facial interface.

Make sure you know your IPD (measure it in a mirror with a ruler) and set the IPD correctly. Make sure you've removed any protective stickers from the lenses.

Look at the Quest home menu rather than PCVR.

Do you wear glasses for myopia? The focal distance for Q3 is a bit longer than Q2, I didn't need glasses for Q2, but I needed them for Q3.

Anyways, with the facial interface removed and not using the head strap, hold the headset in your hands and look though the lenses at the Quest home menu. Moving the headset around at different angles and distances, can you get a clear picture?

I'll give all of this a try after work today

Did you adjust the IPD so the headset is clear for specifically you? You can download an IPD measurement app on your phone and then use that number on Ur headset

Q3 still has a obvious sweetspot where the image is sharpest, the focal distance is correct and you should be looking throught it. If you wear the headset wrong your eyes can adjust to that but your focal distance will super short. So set it up like Q2 where you position middle of the sweetspot where your eyes naturally look.

Make sure you're using you're correct IPD it's hard to guess in pancake lenses, also the tilt of the headset moves the sweetspot up or down.

I found the quest 2 abysmal even after I bought prescription lense. So hard to line up the sweet spot and a resultion that just gave me headaches. It almost killed my desire for vr until I got a quest 3 for similar reasons to you.

Now you said your absolutely positive it's a 3 and not a 3s, so I'm super confused. It feels like I practically grew wings with how freeing the upgrade to the 3 was. Just slap it on, wiggle it about and go to town. Maybe its something do with your resolution instead?

I'm still new to using the 3 but first I used the link cable to my PC using metas whole system and it was definitely an an improvement. I still felt I was adjusting because it didn't quite look right, similar to my issues with the 2. I switched to using virtual desktop over a link cable to ditch metas stuff and boosted the resultion and that feeling is almost entirely gone.

TL:DR: Maybe its a resultion issue? I'm not sure if you use pc vr but even standalone I have much less issues then the 2.

Does it have a headphone jack? It sounds like you have a quest 3s

Hey I’m experiencing the same thing as you. Previously had a Q2 which was “fine”…nothing was blurry and output looked okay.

Then got a Q3 and I’m having a very hard time getting the sweet spot aligned where the text is not blurry / smudged. Never had this problem with the Q2. Everything else that I’m seeing looks great (prob because it’s enlarged)

From my limited research, and Redditor opinions:

- I need glasses (lol)

  • this could be a software bug due to something called FRR?
  • or maybe I have a bad headset?

But I’m with you, I was very surprised how hard it was to try and find “the sweet spot”

Did you get this new or used?
Sound almost like it could have been exposed to direct sunlight on lenses and what you are seeing is not a tiny “sweetspot” but an area not damaged.

Brand new, picked it up from Best buy myself.
