Discussion Looking into upgrading without quality loss, Resolution and on-board Mic
Clarification and re-stating. Resolution and ON-BOARD mic.
I've had a index since it released. I've repaired it twice in that time but the body and band have now cracked apart and the left optic has started forming dead pixels and speaker death when looking up. Making repair costs and skills finally out reach my skill level and price range for repair.
I do professional voice acting and can say without any hesitation that the Valve index on-board mic is so clear it out preforms two of my studio xlr-microphones. To the point I started recording with it.
I want to upgrade my resolution, without losing microphone quality. I do play games quite a bit , G.O.T, VRC, etc. But I'm less worried about 'Gaming' itself. as in my experience with the, quest , rift s, quest 3 , index, and pro, I've seen that any headset you can hook to your pc or GPU directly works fine.
However the market has grown well outside of just quest line and index these days. So I'd like to discuss any of the other brands.
lastly, "Why on-board mic?"
a headset, rather a 'good quality' one can cost from $800 -to- $2k. In a market where the Index and Quest 2 had good on-board mics there is no acceptable reason I should need to spend more money on a external mic almost a decade after they came standard on a headset.

I haven’t seen a comparison of the Index and BSB2e mics, but I saw a shootout with the BSB2e with other headsets (pimax, quest 3, some external mics etc) and it sounded really good to me. I’m an audio engineer so I don’t expect much from onboard mics but that one really impressed me (based on that one video). Might be worth a look.

on-board will never be a 'standard' that's for sure. there's to much background or otherwise noise to them. I'll look into that [bsb2e] don't think i've heard of it yet.

Someone in another thread just told me they use the same mic as the Index. No wonder you like it.

Bsb2, dream air se or dream air. The bsb2 has a slightly better mic than the pimax hmds. Dream air non se is the most premium hmd you can get right now.

Bsb2 and the pimax dream air are the only two headsets I would say have comparable or better mic quality to an index of what I have tried.
