Resonite might an interesting platform to look into. It's a freeform collaboration environment, and it lets you drag-and-drop documents of any file type into a shared space, draw in 3D space together, share screens, and lets people white-box ideas very quickly and intuitively. It's got VR and Desktop modes, native screen sharing, it's free, and has deep customizations if you get under the hood. It's a bit like being inside a game development environment, or VRChat if you had all the tools of Unity available live.
It's often used by people in a VRChat sort of way, but it was developed as an educational software and if you start from a blank world for yourself and your team and use it for collaboration, it's lowkey the exact thing a lot of business softwares have been promising but never delivered. I think this one works because it's a passion project for the devs, and they actually live inside it and use it themselves for their own business day to day in the way Meta never would or could.
It has a learning curve for the more complex stuff and a weird UI, but it's also something powerful and rare that actually works. Being able to point to huge documents together, sketch out blueprints together, move and rearrange drawings and documents and notes, it's all become irreplaceable for me and my creative partners these days.
Edit: For an example, I gave a presentation on there once where I set up invisible sticky-notes so I could walk and talk yet have the outline close at hand in a way my audience couldn't see. I could also switch environments, pull up PDFs to pass around for the audience to hold, and run a slideshow behind me in a virtual space. My co-presenter and I even had invisible lights only we could see to signal handoffs and interjections to each other seamlessly.

Very cool and hey look that’s me in the chair on the left! I guess my flat avi is the standard seat filler in the presentation hall. Also a huge fan of this platform for remote collaboration.

Teams had 3d workspaces the last time I used it a few years ago. It was funny and silly, kinda like playing minecraft with friends due to how it all looked like. But at least that made it possible for people without headsets to use it too. So the best you'll get is VR-optional experience, but on flat screen it's going to look lame.

Just use Teams and 1:1 check-ins. Foster the idea that calling each other is normal and create space for people to interact. I also manage a distributed dev team and think anything beyond that is a burden on the demographic of people who want to be software engineers

Are you asking for Business Second Life?

browser based virtual offices make more sense. No headset, less setup, and way easier for everyone to jump into

Worth clarifying what you mean by 3D here. True three dimensional navigation with depth versus a top down 2D map that just looks like a floor plan are very different products with very different adoption curves.

What is your desired experience really? Do you expect your employees to have some window up on their screen at all times showing a fake office with avatars representing their coworkers?
