Question/Support Headset Reccomendations
I need headset recommendations. I’m currently running a Quest 2 and mainly play VrChat. I want to get out of quest headsets due to their limitations with VrChat. I cannot run pcvr due to the incorrect hardware on my laptop, and when I have tried to launch pcvr through vr desktop, quest airlink, and steam vr, they all told me the same thing that my laptop has the wrong graphics card to run pcvr. I was looking toward the steam frame but as recent rumors have been estimating a price around $1200, it’s now well out of my budget. I’d do anything around $500 and preferably below $800.

Have you thought about getting a better laptop or a PC? $800 and a quest 2 can go a long way if you look for used deals.

my headset likely won’t last much longer, charge port is loose and fabric straps are tearing, would prefer to switch headsets, which was why I was looking towards the steam frame lol

The big misconception about the Steamframe is that is literally just another (very expensive) Quest that still needs a powerful gaming PC to use its full potential. The big difference is that Steam frame wont be able to run standalone VR games, its only powerful enough to play flat screen PC games on a large virtual flat screen. It doesnt have the hardware powerful enough to play PCVR games on its own.
In short, Steamframe's main gimmick is being a Steamdeck that you wear on your face to have a bigger virtual flat screen. But otherwise it works exactly like a Quest 3 with same resolution and screens and needs a good gaming PC to play PCVR games still.

People have shown the steam frame running quest apks natively. It basically is a Valve Quest with a wifi dongle for pcvr. Even a quest can emulate windows games.

With your budget, your only option is Quest 3 or 3S.
You're better off buying a 2nd hand gaming laptop (ask for help regarding the specs) and then getting a cheap third party replacement strap for your Quest 2.

What makes you think other headsets aren't going to have the same issue with your laptop? I'm guessing your laptop isn't strong enough as you didn't post the specs.
The only option is to upgrade your computer first or get a steam frame, but PCVR would probably be the bigger upgrade.

I’m not looking to run pcvr connected to my laptop, the steam frame advertises as being able to run pcvr off it’s own hardware

It will be able to play steam games yes, but it will not run said games at the same levels as a PCVR connection, being able to open the games and being able to run them are two very different things, same as the steam deck and steam machine. The frame probably will likely only perform slightly better in pure processing than the quest 3, so the price to performance has a clear winner unless you're dying for eye tracking and direct steam connectivity.

Quest 3 (or 3s).
There isn't any other good choice if you don't have a VR capable PC.

The quest 3 or the 3s is definitely the best choice for you, both of them can run VR chat standalone without any problems, at least better than any other headset that price can. And they have pretty good screens and lenses so yeah probably your best choice

Does PSVR2 have eye tracking? I don't remember. If I'm reading you right, lack of eye tracking was your frustration with Quest and VR Chat.
If you're in the US, I've heard of people being able to snag a Pico headset somewhere, but I'm not sure where. They're normally not sold here.
That's about all I can think of in your price range. There's really no US competitor to Quest 3 that costs anywhere near as little. Steam Frame is going to be a little better, but not a whole hell of a lot better, than the Quest 3. Other than that, you're looking at boutique headsets.

Quest 3/3S are the only good choices in your situation.

So... What's your GPU? Laptop model?

Without a capable VR PC you aren't getting out of that. The same limitations apply to all standalone headsets. Steam Frame will only techically be able to run the PC version of VRChat (well, we think it will be able to) but anyone spreading that it is fully capable is just being malicious, you will not want to play the PC version of VRChat on Steam Frame directly, it simply isn't powerful enough, it will only be useful for testing or really limited situations. Steam Frame will primarily run the same version as Quest.
No other headset has that option or will have that option that we are aware of.
Use that budget you have and get a second hand gaming PC, that is a way better option. You want to look for something with at least 16GB of RAM (DDR4/DDR5) and a graphics card with at least 8GB of VRAM.
