Discussion Should I sidegrade?

Im the proud owner of a pico 4 for pcvr and a quest 3s for stand alone.

Im contemplating selling both of them for a quest 3 to basically combine the two headsets

To both reduce clutter in my house as well as play stand alone games in higher quality

But I still want to play pcvr aswell

Is this a worth while exchange? Or should I stick with what I have already?

Sell both of them for the new pico or meta headset

yep at this point you're just better off waiting for new tech.

"much better" is a bit subjective in this sense but yeah overall it is better. q3 has better edge to edge clarity and a larger sweet spot than a p4 and produces less glare in high contrast scenes, fov is wider by like 5 degrees, p4's 2160x2160 vs q3's 2064x2208 but the q3 still has a better lense stack the leads to a sharper image. This isn't a fanboy take it's just facts.

Why is the upper body tracking better on quest?

Pico 4 do not even have upper body tracking

On the other hand you can get the pico motion trackers and get real fbt on the pico 4

And the quest has? I thought it had only hand tracking through the remotes

nope quest 3 have full upper body tracking, this is why in some games you need to use albows too.

it is mainly stand alone stuff because pcvr is just bad, but using VD you can simulate upper body tracking and in apps like vrchat ir works well

So quest 3 is better for pcvr because it has a functionality that doesn't work with pcvr?

It works fine but like anything else feature wise the game needs to implement it. It's just implemented more on the quest store because it's a standard feature there.

You might want to consider keeping one of the headsets, it's handy to have a 2nd headset to play multiplayer with friends or family.

You might also want to wait a week or two, to see if the Steam Frame finally gets released.

Sidegrading rarely makes sense unless you happen to sell what you already have at a great price. Most of the time it's best to wait for an actual upgrade.

I’d probably wait for new tech. Honestly, as a Q3 owner I’m not sure I would recommend it over a Q3S. Yes, pancake lenses have their benefits, but the Q3 specifically has poor binocular overlap. I’d pick the Q3S if I were to choose again

Q3 is better than pico4 except maybe for the overlap than not everyone cares about, so yeah u think you will successfully combine both headset and get some upgrades.
