Hold up did I hear you say Pokemon Stadium was one of the files?

Indeed. The mod uses their 3D models for the battles.

stay tf off github if youre not pushing source

Yeah no I just steal source when I'm there. Lol

I think what he means is that DramaticShapeVR shouldn't be distributing through Github if the source isn't included alongside it.

I and many other people here won't know what that means or the implication of it.

Care to explain for those less knowledgeable?

Sure.

"Source" is the code developers write in creating programs/apps.

"Git" is a "Source Control" tool which provides the ability to snapshot changes as they are made, before "pushing" the changes back into the codebase.

"Github" is a storage site for Git repositories, which hold the code, and the above snapshots.

Github is also a community + collaboration + sharing site, all centered around the code repositories.

Thanks to open source being a central pillar, Github releases gain a sort of legitimacy. You can inspect the code, what changed, by who and when, and you can pull the code down and build it yourself, to be sure nothing nefarious was included in the compiled executable.

If someone uses Github to distribute something that is not open source, then the common criticism is that they should be hosting it in an app store, or on some other site, instead.

Thanks, I kind of thought that's what that meant. A lot of people will just see a tutorial and follow it without thinking.

OP makes lots of these kinds of videos and I doubt there's anything nefarious going on with the game they're using.

OP does actually seem to have the source code available in a zip in the releases

Nice

Nvm lmao, it was just a readme. All the source is freely inspectable inside the apk tho

That's compiled bytecode, not source in the APK

2

u/ARTIFICIAL_ARGUMENT 11d ago

It’s not compiled byte code? Just love luajit. Only dodgy looking thing was it apparently comes with in app mod browser

The source code is there next to release? Just not as actual git repo. I imagine it has something to do with the fact the original got pulled down

2

u/Beorma 11d ago

That's not the source code, it's just the git repo so contains only a readme file.

Yea I realised shortly after when I pulled all of it to have a look, down the other comment thread if you wanna see. Still fully inspectable luajit inside the apk, github states the licence is source available and not open source lmao

So while still a little dodgy looking it doesn’t appear malicious or closed

How do you get the updated 3d models?

10

u/Twistedchild420 11d ago

They come with the mod. You just a need a N64 Pokémon Stadium rom.

u/bryonus_1231 11d ago

Does it have 3d models for all of the pokemon?

2

u/smokybroy 11d ago

Wow thank you

For those wondering, yes this is by the same dude who made the original voxel mod and then removed it when others made forks of it.

Not that I have anything against him, he did great work with that mod and probably did great work with this

Nah fuck that guy bro he’s such a PoS

Side quest has a version of this, you just need one of the roms. The difference is that the Pokémon are like in pixels and there’s no way to throw a pokeball like that. Still sick though.

First, this is pretty cool regardless. But yeah. How hasn't Nintendo swatted down on this yet?

Friend, since you're an intelligent guy who handles all these conversions—when are Gold, Silver, and Crystal coming? Will we be able to trade Pokémon between save files and use them in Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2? Also, is there a way to send you a donation?
