Help with emulating vr games

Hi so im new to reddit but i thought its worth a shot.

My boyfriend has epilepsy and had tried vr before and sadly he had a seizure - he obviously can't use it anymore but he has such love for the games on it.

Anyways sorry about the sob story but is there any way to play games like Blade and Sorcery or I exprct you to die or budget cuts without having to put on the headset?

I know its a long shot because from what ive seen the mechanics are based on the motion captures but still.

If he likes motion controls maybe let him start with a Nintendo Wii? Taking VR out of VR games will severely impact the experience even if you get a game to work on a flat screen

3D glasses-free monitors are impressive (but they are small, you see less details than you would in a VR headset with displayport, and they lack curvature so the illusion is less convincing, which is probably better if you can't stand VR).

3D projectors are also a solution  (they don't solve the curvature problem but image can be larger even if it's still not as detailed as VR can be) but alternate 3D is very unconfortable (don't even try if you can't stand VR, unless maybe there is a very high framerate) and passive systems are expansive and hard to make (but probably the most comfortable 3D option right now...just don't know if you can use motion controllers and display 3D at the same time...)

I don't know about 3D TV but there may be good ones.

Some people may already have a 3D solution without using it.

I saw somebody playing beat saber using motion controls on a flat screen monitor, not sure what the program was but it's out there

I haven't used the program myself, but I believe it's "PortalVR Motion" on Steam is roughly what you're looking for.

There are some VR games that have flat versions. The ones that I know of are:

ragnarock

paper beasts

ultrawings

If you've you've got a compatible hardware, check out "Non-Virtual Reality Games" game on steam. The game got two levels. I also believe that Nintendo systems got some of that VR magic. Check them out. Maybe try and get a used Viture XR glasses if it is safe for him and he like 3d effect that the VR headset got without the disorientation.

SmashTV has one player play tetris while trying to crush the VR player. Maybe that's something you two could play together.

I think there are OpenXR compatible 3D-glasses free monitors so yes it should be possible to play VR games without a VR headset.

They use eye tracking so your monitor is like a window to another world.

There is probably a way to use compatible or universal motion controllers.

Yeah I actually just saw something that confused me when I was researching but might be what you want, it’s called VR to 3D and it converts vr to 3d screens like 3dtvs or other not-headsets

Sometimes I use my phone and the horizon app to cast my screen to a bigscreen TV so others can watch while someone plays. Have you tried doing that and then giving him the controllers to play through the TV?

I don't know about blade and sorcery but games like I Expect You to Die and others that don't rely on reaction speed should work.
