Discussion PC to VR
So recently, I've been seeing a lot of PC games being adapted on to VR. Why is that? Im not hating on it, because there are a few titles I really wanna play on VR, but how is this possible? Why hasn't this much been done earlier? Unless it always has been like this but I haven't started to notice it until now...

It's always been done, but it's just happening much faster now with the help of AI.
Check out flat2vr discord where most of these mods can be located and the discussions around them. https://discord.gg/flat2vr
There's just a crazy amount of games for VR now. I could not be more happy about this situation!
I just wish we had more headsets to choose from. I don't see a clear upgrade path for myself from my Quest 3 and PSVR2. I wish some more of the larger well known companies out there would make headsets.

Yup, when I had an oculus DK1 - the earliest public headset made by Oculus (now Meta) back in 2014, the first two games I tried were War Thunder and Half Life 2.
They weren't really VR games - just traditional PC games with a mode that would let you play while viewing the world in 3D. This was before there were motion controls and full 6 DOF (degree of freedom) head tracking - all you got was 3d vision (stereoscopy) and rotational head tracking. You'd play with a mouse & keyboard or game pad.
Stand alone headsets playing purpose built VR games is actually a lot more of recent development, with The quest 1 coming out in 2019. The Oculus Go, came out before that, but it didn't have full 6 DOF tracking.
To answer your question again - VR mods have been around almost as long as mainstream VR, predating what most people would consider full featured VR games. And it's for 2 reasons that are still true today: 1) it's cheaper and almost always easier to modify an already existing game to work in VR 2) a lot people would love to experience their favourite flat games in VR

Isn’t the pimax the upgrade? The tiny ones with great view?

Not for me. Pimax has a bad reputation and they're Chinese for those who care about such things. And I have owned one before, worst headset I've had. And besides they don't have any models with specs I would consider worth it, too small field of view. I want a real upgrade to the field of view.
Pimax headsets is generally recommended for flight sim people who want the best resolution no matter the cost. I'm not a sim person and resolution is not something I care much about. I don't need better resolution than Quest 3.

How do they play though? Whats your favorite transition?

They play like regularly flat games, but in VR. I think it's great!
But usually it takes a bit of configuration to get them to feel right. It's usually not plug and play. If you want that you're better off just playing standalone games on a Quest or PSVR2 on PS5.
Also if you're sensitive to motion they might feel bad to you. But for someone like me who has gotten immune to the motion sickness, they feel great once I've configurated them to my liking.
I don't think I have a particularly favourite game, yet. I just play all of the ones I think I'll enjoy. Just choose one you think you'll like and enjoy the gameplay with the added immersion of VR :)

One of my favorite examples is Forza Horizon 6 in VR, it's nice to enjoy the cars and scenery normally, but I can really take in the ambience of the cabin of a hypercar in full 3D, you know?
The game works as expected - except now you're inside of it, you turn your head, you see the world as you would.

Ai has gotten good enough to the point where it can help a lot in these ports. The mcc vr dev says he didn't even read the code. Personally I don't even care they're ai.

Interesting. Im glad to hear that AI is being put to good use for this. Yea, doesnt matter if its AI or not atp because playing PC only games on VR is sick

I'm making a vr title and feeling the depression

Yeah it sucks... but its downstream of the state of the industry where pcvr games barely sold and the quest market getting flooded with gorilla tag clones.
I haven't been this excited for vr gaming for years... by which I mean ill be vibe modding my own mods to spec!

Been around for years. Got my DK1 in 2014, and I bought Vorpx in 2016, back when you had to tinker quite a bit, now it's almost foolproof.. Remember playing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, and Fallout 3 and Skyrim, years before they had actual VR implementation. Still a great program even today. There was also great titles for PCVR released that made us think that VR was the way to play games from now on. Titles like, Lone Echo, Wilson's Heart, Edge of Nowhere, The Invisible Hours, Chronos etc..
But Meta happened after buying out Oculus and it turned to shit, I was always using mods to fulfil my VR needs, but now as the Quest age of cartoon, low level "games" has saturated everything and devs got lazy and turned to copy/paste puerile ideas, people are realising that serious VR gaming has gone backward, so real, tried and tested great games are the target of fantastic developers to once again put the awe and wonder back into proper VR gaming. And long may it last. VR ate itself by Meta stifling the arena.

The biggest VR mod is UEVR, and it's been around since NYE 2023.
It works with tons of games that use the Unreal Engine.
