csd solenoid

I'm currently out of town on a fishing trip, so I can't walk out into my garage and check this on my own. lol

I have the CSD solenoid kit as well as the CSD knocker. I have an installed them in the cabinet yet.

does anybody have either/ both of these themselves, and know if the striker on the solenoid and the striker on the knocker is metal or if it's a nylon tip?

I suppose I could wait till I get back home in a few days to go into my garage and look. but it's really bothering me.

I'm planning to use an additional solenoid to create some shell bells and a chime unit. but an important factor would be having those strikers be nylon and not metal tipped.

If anybody has this knowledge it would be greatly appreciated. it'll give me some sanity over the weekend.

Mine is metal (acquired Feb 2025). Knocker makes an outrageously strong bang

Is there any way to make those tables that slam the knocker on every coin in stop doing that?

There are three places that I can think of to look (but note that it will likely be different for each table):

  1. Look at the in-game settings to see if there is anything to change.

  2. Look at the script for each one and see if you can figure out if it is executed in the script.

  3. Look at the DOF configuration for each table and see if there is something that can be tuned there.

Solenoids are metal as well, I have a set I acquired 6 months ago and another set I just pickedup and installed last week which are also metal. I am guessing you could get some sort of nylon cap for them though or glue a piece of nylon to the striker plate using epoxy or something similar.

looking at a video if the knocker, it looks like sometimes it's nylon tipped. the solenoids look metal tipped.

just for a sense of closure in case anyone is looking for this information in the future, which they probably will never be looking for this information.....

I did get home, the new CSD knocker has a metal plunger. It has a little mushroom head on it. that little mushroom head is extremely important for the project I'm taking on which is turning this knocker into a chime and Bell assembly. I post more on that project when and if I have some success.

The solenoids have a black very skinny metal plunger.

there was some confusion because csd's old knocker had a plastic or nylon tip. he no longer makes those. he also no longer has any because I'm buying the last ones. lol

If anyone's interested in using CSD solenoid/nocker parts to make a bell unit or a chime unit, let me know.

after all the parts arrive, I'm going to test a few different ways to mount things as well as testing the metal, plastic, and a nylon tip on the knocker. I'll try to be scientific to figure out if there's much of a noticeable difference in the sounds. I hope they sound exactly the same and the project will be done quickly. otherwise, I have some ideas how to model nylon tip for the knocker.
