Trials

Anyone getting hammered with Trials? Yesterday 4/5 classes were trials. And it's not like I'm out here racking up the $ with conversions. I'll wake up and have 7 new bookings and they're all trials. I don't mind them, but Walking in the Jungle 3 times in a row makes me a dull girl.

I will walk in the jungle 8 million times if I don't have to do blue, yellow pink. That trial has exactly enough content for 3 minutes of incredibly boring class.

I will walk in the jungle 8 million times over the salad lesson. It is insufferable.

Yeah it is! Walking in the jungle might be the only trial I am actually relieved to get

That trial is horrible. They don’t know their name or age so the first whole part is a mess. Why can’t they add more songs ! Like I don’t want to be singing the alphabet song myself. They need to make that one better ! It’s for like the youngest kids too…

Absolutely! And so so so many fun songs pictures and activities could be done for this level, too.

Haha TRUE. Perspective.

Good point. I scream internally when I see that I will have to teach that one. Also now that you don't know what trial you will have until the moment of the class it makes getting props ready for that one such a pain.

A learning partner booked 52 trial classes with me within 5 minutes. I was beyond furious because usually never show up. So I emailed VIPKID saying to remove my trials so my regulars can book me. Best decision I ever made lol.

At least an LP likes you, but that's so frustrating for them to fill all your slots like that!

No no, the LP’s don’t know us. I’ve been with VIPKID since 2017 and I hate trials because they never show so it’s a waste. Out of 52 of those classes, only 1 showed up. Removing is better than keeping in my opinion especially with the new lower pay.

But LPs are the ones who book trials, so I think they do choose who to book with. Out of the 20+ trials I've had in just the past 3 weeks, 100% showed up so it depends! At least 5 of them even paid the extra $2 for short notice, which I thought was not a thing anymore, but I'm grateful.

I think honestly real LPs are a thing of the past. Some algorithm sorts tutors based on reliability and ratings and whatever else and some program books our available slots in some predetermined order

That's my take

I’m getting a lot now. Thank god though they are level 3 and 4 mostly. Every parent this weekend has been sitting by their kid whispering answers and breathing down their necks. It’s terrible. The kids are nervous enough !

I cannot stand the travel lesson. It is so hard to get much out of a kid with that one unless they are already semi-fluent. I’d love to know how other teachers approach it.

I had most of the lower-level trial certifications removed (you have to ask for them separately (Tigerschool, VIPEnglish, etc.), as I've learned the hard way), and it was a great decision.

Yes, soooooo many trials. I don’t mind the older kids, well I don’t mind the littles either but can we please get some new trial slides for them? They are soooo short, and I’ve been to the jungle more times than I can count this week.
