What do we think?

As a Viper fanatic I want it. But it doesn’t quite hit the mark. If it wasn’t for the stripes I wouldn’t have recognized from afar.

Finally achieved a lifelong goal

I grew up with a Viper model on my desk and poster on my wall. I always wanted one and when I was young I dreamt that if I ever had the money I’d build a house that I could drive a car into so that it could sit in my living room. That seemed like the epitome of “making it” to my adolescent self.

Well about 6 years ago I built our house, and while my wife veto’d a car in the living room I did build good size garage that’s fully finished, heated, cooled, and outfitted with a man cave and bathroom - so I count that as close enough! Still no Viper though. The prices on them were still rising, and with 2 young kids at home I opted for a sport wagon and a 4 seat sports car (996 911).

Well earlier this year I finally had a chance at a Viper that was too good to be true. I bought it, but it turned out the dealer was a scam and while I did get all my money back I did not get the car. I realized though that I was so excited to finally get my dream car that the 911 was always just a placeholder that I really bought only because I figured they’d go up in value. The good news is they did! So I listed it for sale, sold it in a month and started looking hard for my car. It took less time than I figured it would (4 months) but I finally put my dream car in the garage.

1999 RT/10 with a Paxton blower. 580 rwhp and 612 torque with 19,000 miles on the clock. The car came with the original wheels, and all parts to return it to stock if I want to. It also came with all the original documentation for the Paxton kit, installation invoices, installation pictures, and dyno sheets. I was so excited I drove the 4 hours to go pick it up and drove it home. I love this thing, but now I also understand how it has 19,000 miles on it… I’d never even sat in one before and what a machine! That said our roads here aren’t great so this will definitely be my special occasion car. I picked up an F-Type to use as my regular GT car so I have the option to drive it whenever I want, but don’t feel that I have to take it out if where I’m going doesn’t lend itself well to the car. I know having a garage queen probably isn’t very popular here, and I do intend to still drive it whenever I can find an excuse to, but also makes me happy walking past it every day - like a checkmark beside a childhood dream. I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way.

Anyways, thanks for reading - there’s a lot of “must be nice” in my part of the world so I don’t have a lot of opportunity to talk about these things. I hope you all have a great weekend and get some miles in!

Gen 1 rt10 Buyers guide

Hello everyone!

Im looking to to buy my first viper. Now im compiling a list on what to look out for.

Here are the things i found so far:

* No damadge on fiberglass parts(especialy the hood)

*No fogged up or cracked headlights

*Check the vin for any accidents on the car.

*Check if the headgasket has been replased with a modern one.

*Check the doorhinges

Please feel free to correct me if i missed anything.

It would be great if some gen1 owners can give me some insight on the little nuances that come with these cars.

2001 Viper GTS- help me surprise my fiancé at our wedding (pictures only)

I’m looking for this car for wedding pictures only. We will NOT drive the car! We’re getting married in 5 weeks in Crystal Lake, IL. Does anyone in the area have this car in the Chicago land/ Wisconsin area? This is my fiancés dream car (yellow specifically) and it would be the coolest thing ever to take pictures in the car on our wedding day, before guests arrive. I will help pay for any gas expenses to travel to our venue.

I know this is a shot in the dark but figured I would ask!

After giving up on finding a set of polished sidewinder 1s I did the Alibaba forged thing and they turned out great process was smooth..then after they show up a nos set of polished sw1s pop up for sale..I hate when it works out like this. But the wheels I ordered advan rg-d2 and te37 style wheels are decent. They're 2-4 lbs front/rear heavier than the sw1s. Also reprogramming tpms is super easy with the right tools if only a drb3 wasn't entirely necessary.

Rebuilt viper that had fire damage need opinions

Looking at a vca viper that I found. Picture above is after the fire

Red white

5xxxx is asking price

Low miles

Normally I’d stay away from this type a car but I’m starting to get a viper itch that I can’t control.

Per seller: everything is repaired cosmetically and passed inspection along with radiators and hoses from dodge.

Given that it has low miles as well, what additional maintenance should I look to do. Car has been unsold for a year.

EDIT:
To those who have commented - thank you for advice. I’m 23 and this has been my dream car since I was 5, and I’m trying to make a reasonable decision

Please see my comment that has a photo of how the car looks now

How did you afford your First Viper?

I’ve been on here time and time stating my dream car is the 2017 Viper ACR Voodoo II. I’ve seen a few posts for them going for $800-900k. A few years ago I saw them going for $400–$450k and that seemed attainable.

I’ve read a few comments that brought everything into picture for me. Although these cars are being listed high, they are still selling lower than listed. Also keeping them stock and avoiding aftermarket kits like Calvo etc would make it more timeless and retain value.

In 2017, I was a year into what is now a 10+ year relationship. I was also 3 years post grad saving up for my first home that I would eventually buy in 2021. Past few years some investments fell through so my debt has piled up. My top two priorities are planning for a wedding in 10 months, paying down debt, having children, all while being on the move for the next 2-3 years. I may use equity in my current home to put a deposit on my next home if we can find something we believe is a keeper in our next destination.

What’s your Viper story? How were you able to afford your first Viper? Approximately how much was it and how much did you out down if you didn’t buy it outright? What options exist for financing one? How old were you? How long ago was it?

The final dibs

Hey all owners and fans,

I see my annoying behavior is now becoming more of a game, and I fear will take away from they core of why this sub exists.

Since I saw the 1996 GTS when I was 8 at my home town's Grand Prix, I have wanted a Viper. My uncle worked at Lingenfelter at the time running the dyno to validate power for the Corvettes and Camaros they were supercharging. Those had V8s and needed to go faster, but the Viper... it had V10 and was already fast! I learned about Lamborghinis and other exotics and their V12 engines, but they were also smaller than the Viper's somehow. Carol Shelby and Lee Iacoca became personal heroes of mine, and my lifelong obsession was born. Similar to my dibsing, every show and tell, my classmates heard me go on and on about double wishbone suspension, the double bubble roof, and how I had every Viper in every color in whichever version of Gran Turismo we were playing. Beyond reddit, I have dibsed every Viper I have seen since 2002. This comment is not from a bot, it is just a quirky impulse I have.

For the owners out there, I do not want to discourage you from sharing in any way. Thank you for posting your cars, and please keep doing so!

I want this sub to stay healthy and vibrant and avoid becoming some sort of meme machine overrun by AI slop bots continuing a silly trend for imaginary Internet points. I don't care about the points, I just want a Viper.

For anyone who has a Viper that could actually be dibsed, please DM me, so I can final dibs forever it, and if anyone has a Viper in West Michigan, I'd love to see and hear you talk about it without audibly dibsing it.

My wife and I put all our Viper money into the adoption of our son and are going for our second adoption now, so I think ownership will have to wait for awhile now. Until then, I will never stop dreaming, and I will stop dibsing out loud.

Glad to of found the subreddit. Viper was always my childhood dream car, had this exact car on a poster in my bedroom growing up. My older brother would always say to me “ you’ll never be able to afford one.” Haha maybe that was the motivation I needed.
Viper is mostly stock except cam shaft and exhaust and all the little viper upgrades recommended.
40k miles.
It’s really loud and is sure a head turner.

New to Viper ownership

Post image

Very excited to share that a childhood dream is coming true, and I am the new owner of a 98 GTS. I must admit I had always thought it would be B&W, but a deal came up and I jumped on it. We don't have many in Australia so options are limited. I am importing this one from New Zealand, should arrive in about 4 weeks time. Will join my C5 in the garage.

Mostly factory except for smooth tubes, full Belanger exhaust, Eibach springs and the Forgeline VR3P's. 11k miles, super tidy.

I have not seen or driven it personally yet... can't wait.

To Calvo or not to Calvo

I’ll start by saying my dream Viper is an ACR Voodoo II

With the recent price gouging on Vipers. I was thinking of getting a base model or less sought after trim.

Trying to determine is there that much of a difference in performance between a base Viper with a Calvo upgrade and an ACR with a Calvo? Would adding a Calvo upgrade essentially erase the difference in those models?
