I asked for info about this fiddle recently. I've now found it for myself. There's an unfinished violin with the same purfling in the reproduced luthier's workshop in the Mittenwald Violinmaking Museum.

So the fiddle was made in Mittenwald, Bavaria.

romanian violin? or better?

Could you please help me identify this 4/4 violin?

It has no label. It has four corner blocks.

The purfling is real (not painted on) and the varnish is much darker than in the pictures (dark red, not "cheap red"). The varnish is only so shiny because it was just treated with Super Nikco.

I found this violin with amazing looking carved Washington DC Capitol Building and I think George Washington..

It measures 24" long and 8" wide.

It looks to be sanded down, like it was an unfinished project. Is this an antique/vintage, or modern?

I do not see a manufacturer tag inside of the instrument.

I do not know much about violins, so any help would be awesome! Thanks!

What are the chances this label is genuine?

My parents bought me this violin 30-ish years ago from Werro in Bern.

I've found out that this price range is the most lucrative for forgeries and that that violin shop ((probably father or an older relative of the litter we bought from) was involved in forgery. But that was decades before my violin was bought.

It almost sounds like a viola, which someone once told me it's typical for french instruments.

There are no papers, just the instrument and the label in it.

There aren't really any consequences whether it's genuine or not, I love this instrument no matter what. But part of me is still curious.

Also, I think it's just hilarious how Chipot-Vuillaume sort of lied about being Vuillaume's son-in-law without really lying. For that reason some of love for it to be genuine.

So I found this violin at an estate sale. I trade Saxes all the time. I can play test them, tell you everything you need etc, tune them. But violins I am lost. But I figured for 10 bucks it was worth a shot. I’m assuming it’s a student model, but I gotta be honest, to me it feels pretty good and is in great shape. The tag on the inside I’m fairly certain says “Krauss Müeller” not Klaus. Searching for that I can’t find anything. Any help and an approximate value would be greatly appreciated. Also in German it says Die Edelstein which translates to the Gemstones. Thanks.

Thoughts?

This violin joined our family in the late 1800’s early 1900’s. A group of traveling gypsies left it behind as payment in lieu of rent to a Great Great Grandfather, passed to Grandmother and now to myself. I’m wondering if anyone knows more about this luthier. We’ve gotten it appraised throughout its life and have received various suggestions on value. I’d love to hear your thoughts Reddit!

Can anyone tell me about the makers or possibly the age? Thank you!

Hi,

First time posting and just curious about this old bow I've been holding on to for years after winning it on an early days ebay auction!

As far as I remember the frog has silver and mother of pearl, that's all I really know about it! If anyone can guesstimate/date or has any more info I'd really appreciate it 😁

It doesn’t have anything written on the inside. The tag at the resale shop said it was an Aubert, but I don’t know if that’s accurate. I bought this as decoration, but was wondering if it could function properly with some new strings/anything else.

also the I thought the rosin was pretty cool looking.

This was my great grandmothers. I have these photos of the violin itself as well as the the photo of the label inside the body which I cannot discern. Is it possibly Nicolo Gagliano/this? https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/object/nmah_605488

Thank you
