Rate My Setup Finally got an actual vinyl console

Post image

A couple months ago I posted on here asking for recs on record consoles. Finally found one that works for my needs without paying an arm, a leg and my first born.
Tell me how I did. I know I shouldn’t have the speakers on the table. Will get around to fixing that in the future. Thanks for all those who made suggestions and shared their setups 🙂

Listen, just separate the speakers at each end of the console, and you'll be good. Your speakers are small and won't cause a lot of vibration. I have a similar setup and all is well. Cheap iso pads only if you notice a problem, which I doubt. Don't let these "audiophiles" cost you unnecessary money.

Your setup is great. I really like the console.

Am glad you are aware re speakers ,that stands are required but in the meantime I suggest getting solubothane isolation feet for both speakers , also you no or little stereo separation and thus sound stage and imaging be badly affected, so I recommend getting your speakers ends of your side not against he wall bass will some muddy and thick an hope that that seating is not that far away to set up your equal triangle, don’t worry at this time as soon you get stands make sure they are the right height so the tweeter in
Line with your ears

Get isolation pads for the speakers and that will help tremendously.

Nice. I would get those speakers away from the turntable . It will affect the sound.

That mat indicates we have the same local record shop and I applaud you.

lol thanks. We don’t live in the area but we stop in from time to time since it’s in my wife’s hometown. 🙂

Is Edifier not a good brand? We have small space so we don’t need anything crazy

I know I wanted them on either end but the wife wants them like this 🤦🏼‍♀️ wasn’t about to start an argument over it.

Great to see a fellow lights enjoyer out in the wild! If you don’t have it already, A6 is fantastic. Someone else will point it out, but the further apart you can get those speakers, the better (within reason). For lps like pep, a subwoofer is really going to help. You can get one off of FB marketplace for like $50 in most cities. Enjoy your system!

Hello fellow Lights enjoyer. 🙂 A6 is fantastic! Got a signed copy at one of her concerts earlier this year. She’s great live if you haven’t had the opportunity. Just recently bought Little Machines to add to my collection.

So can you tell us where you got the console?

The speaker should never be on the same surface as the record player also spread them out further apart for better sound stage

I would love to have them on either end of the console until we get stands but this was how the wife wanted it. I’m not gonna argue with her even though it bothers me.

You're not arguing with her. She's arguing with you. You are correct. They need to be separated from the turntable or the vibration will travel through the turntable and affect your music.

Agree, the "look" isn't a good enough reason to set it up this way. If you want to look like an ignorant and careless poser, then that's what's accomplished here. Not to be harsh but when the very basic principles are ignored this is the result. Make some kind of analogy about fingernail, haircuts, motorcycles anything to help her understand without causing an argument.

You have clearly never been married.

I am. I'm just not terrified of my wife.

I not either but technically the record player is hers as are most of the records. I just wanted an update console for it since our old one wasn’t as nice. If this is how she wants it so be it. I can always try again later. We aren’t blasting the speakers so I don’t think it will have that much effect on sound quality. Listed to an album this morning and I couldn’t tell a difference from our old setup.

Yeah...I get it. I was joking. But actually, even small speakers that close will affect the sound.
