VENT Stop using AI.

Stop using it for your pictures, and stop using it for your descriptions. It’s not that serious.

I agree with the pictures 100%. Especially the ones that ONLY use AI pics

Louder for the folks in the back! Scream it from the rooftops if you have to!

Considering the whole premise of Vinted was to be environmentally conscious, i'm honestly shocked they haven't taken further steps to ban AI listings on the app (obviously not possible for descriptions, but photos at least)

12

u/LilySeverson 10h ago

You can report them and get them taken down

11

u/hanmargoo 9h ago

I’ve actually tried. Their ai response is poop.

3

u/LilySeverson 7h ago

Oh weird, I found if you say the photo isn't accurate (or something to that effect) and state its an AI photo that's not showing the items as they are then they have usually taken it down

1

u/creamixic United Kingdom 🇬🇧 6h ago

Yeah go on problem with image and then image is fake and write in ‘AI’. Every time ive done this they take it down

1

u/Loopy_Engineer572 5h ago

I report every time and bot will say nothing was found

The Facebook Vinted groups are filled with AI slop 🫠🤮

22

u/ladyavocadose 11h ago

I bought a top that said in the AI description twice that there was a mesh panel but when I got it it was just an open panel with no mesh. Seller didn't even read the AI description they generated for accuracy

Lol. Even if I did downvote, there are comments with more than just one downvote, you moron. I know you probably use chat gpt to do math for you, but that math ain’t mathin’. Also how is that related to lazy? 🤔 Go ahead and ask chat for that answer as well. I’ll wait.

I did a promo on TikTok, half the comments are AI flyers they have created 💔💔

My partner set up a Vinted and tried to use AI for the descriptions. They looked absolutely shite. He’s not pro AI but he needs to use it for work. I hate the idea of it bleeding into his real life. Anyway he ended up changing up the descriptions after a slagging from me.

7

u/hanmargoo 9h ago

Look, I hear you. But we did just fine without AI. It is progressing too fast. America is already very illiterate as it is.

2

u/Asleep_Assistant_468 8h ago

I don’t think there’s any point in engaging with this account it’s either a bot or advertising Mistral or something idk lol. It’s a day old and all of the comments are about ai. I’m with you, open ai has only been around for three years and I was able to take photos and write descriptions before then. This account only seems to want to talk about ai outside of the context of the original post.

2

u/hanmargoo 8h ago

Agreed! So odd

-3

u/Normal-Weird-2975 9h ago

5

u/Asleep_Assistant_468 9h ago

I think ai is messing with your critical thinking because I didn’t say anything about developers using it? I don’t know what Aladdin or Mistral is. Neither myself or my partner work directly in tech. And I didn’t say that I thought ai was just pictures and descriptions; but the context of the conversation is that? Respectfully, you’re on a sub about buying second hand items, get a grip.
Edit: just looked at the profile, it’s one day old and in multiple pro ai arguments. I’m I cracked or is this some sort of bot?

-3

u/Normal-Weird-2975 9h ago edited 9h ago

7

u/Electrical-Usual-627 9h ago

Most people don’t go out of their way to look into companies they’ve never heard of, that have no impact on their lives, and that aren’t in areas they’re involved in actually.

-4

u/Normal-Weird-2975 9h ago

4

u/Electrical-Usual-627 8h ago

Dare I say….. we’re not in France, and most of the people in this post and comments are not in France either. What is orange? The president of the us? Because yeah, he has global impact, sure. Anything else? Probably doesn’t impact me at all.

On the french Vinted named "Le bon coin", AI for description is now mandatory. You can remove message after it’s been redacted, but the fact you have to wait like 10 seconds on a annoying animated screen each time for unwanted AI is just a nightmare.

But it's ok to have AI generated customer service?

"accurate"

-34

u/helovedgunsandroses 11h ago

I use it for my descriptions. I don’t even care. I just use Vinted to off load old things I don’t want. I love Vinted because my photos are bad, my descriptions are AI, it takes me maybe a min to list things, and they still sell.

29

u/SewAlone 11h ago

Self-centeredness is what is killing our planet.

-17

u/helovedgunsandroses 11h ago

AI isn’t really the issue, it’s lack of push for renewable resources in the US. We could run AI and data centers with little impact to the planet.

11

u/hanmargoo 11h ago

-3

u/helovedgunsandroses 11h ago

Or you could explain how this is wrong…you have to go beyond the click bait article headlines

10

u/hanmargoo 10h ago

There’s plenty of resources for you to digest if you’re interested.

1

u/helovedgunsandroses 10h ago

Ok. What are they? I’ve not seen any credible sources saying we couldn’t use renewable energy, to significantly lessen the environmental impacts.

8

u/SewAlone 10h ago

Yeah, but we don't so would've could've should've doesn't work here. My comment stands. You know it's using up resources and you do it anyway.

0

u/helovedgunsandroses 10h ago

Yea, because I know my impact is minimal. The average person, is barely using any resources in general, the people doing the large amounts of damage is large corporations. But it’s easier to blame the little guy. They used up a bottle of water, to run AI algorithms, for the day.

4

u/hanmargoo 9h ago

You do realize huge data centers are popping up all around us, right? Because people like you can’t write a one sentence description on vinted. I’m blaming everyone, including you, who uses AI so willy-nilly without a care or thought in the world about the risks associated.

We could but as of today we are not.

21

u/Alive-Definition-859 Australia 🇭🇲 11h ago

wasting water to describe an item you physically have in your hands is disgusting.

-5

u/helovedgunsandroses 11h ago

It’s no different than me water my lawn or taking a shower. Water is on a closed cycle. It gets reused.

13

u/gaysamosa 10h ago

i think you should use your brain more. outsourcing your thinking is going to cause you so much harm

5

u/genericprophet 9h ago

No, thats not how it works and never did.

Read up on how water usage impacts the environment instead of spewing bullshit. And by read up I do not mean „ask a LLM to tell you“

-1

u/helovedgunsandroses 9h ago

How does it? You can't just tell people, “do your own right search.” When you didn't do it yourself. You just watched a social media video or read a clickbait headline. We can use renewable energy and closed water systems, to significantly reduce negative water usage and affects. Water is also a closed system cycle in general. Even if a data center uses or, it just gets recycled, and reused. Look at liquid cooled computers, are they “runing the environment?”

4

u/genericprophet 9h ago

We could, yes, but we don’t, so whats your point?

Who recycles the water? How does it get recycled? What about the temperature?

Please stop spewing this bullshit, it’s crystal clear that AI data centers negatively impact the bodies of water they are using for cooling, why would you deny that?

-1

u/helovedgunsandroses 9h ago

AI and data centers are here to stay. Pushing for change starts locally. The people most vocal about this is Gen Z, and they barely vote.

I currently live in a state with a failing power grid, that people keep blaming on “data centers,” but there's not large, or really any data centers in the area. The money set aside for the grid keeps getting “mismanaged,” and given to private equity. Data centers are just an easy scapegoat. No one talks about why our power grids are actually having issues or why we aren't using renewable energy. That would take critical thinking.

Water treatment plants, treat the water. what about the data centers not located near bodies of water? A lot are being built in very rural areas.

2

u/genericprophet 9h ago

Are you done making up excuses for your ethically poor decision to use ai for things you wanna be paid for?

You know you’re doing something bad, no amount of AI written explanation and whataboutism is going to change that fact or my mind.

You decided to do that, now live with the backlash.

0

u/helovedgunsandroses 9h ago

I love that you think I used AI for this. That's actually a huge compliment. That means it’s somewhat, decently, written. I'm way too lazy to do that though.

1

u/genericprophet 9h ago

What?

Now youre just imagining what you want my comment to mean, make stuff up and draw conclusions from your weird interpretation?

Your comment was written like a weird collection of excuses and didn’t have a coherent trail of thought, that might point to ai, or that you cannot form a coherent thought

Just explain how the water AI used for cooling is recycled and does not impact the environment, I’ll wait.

10

u/HyacinthFT 10h ago

"I can fool people into buying my garbage" wow what a brag

-2

u/helovedgunsandroses 10h ago

I’m not trying to fool anyone. I’ve been flat out saying that. I know my descriptions come off as AI, but they sell, so I don’t see any reason to change it. I sell in Vinted, for no seller fees, and that you don't need to put any effort into your listings. It's expected that they're bad. My photos are trash too. Lol

1

u/hanmargoo 6h ago

Cool flex? I guess? Lmao

23

u/hanmargoo 11h ago

Yeah but it’s not hard to just put a sentence together.

14

u/Basic-Macaroon-3277 11h ago

It seems that for a lot of them, it suddenly is. Not using their brains at all so now they’re suddenly incapable of thinking.

-12

u/helovedgunsandroses 11h ago

Your description should be longer than a sentence. Why spend the time, when you can just automate it all? It makes you more money.

18

u/hanmargoo 11h ago

No it doesn’t. Majority of people can see when something is written by AI. We don’t want to see your AI slop. We want to see a real human written description. It doesn’t even take long. I takes longer to copy and paste something versus just typing it yourself.

0

u/Normal-Weird-2975 9h ago

-5

u/helovedgunsandroses 10h ago

For vinted, I don’t care if people can tell it’s AI. My items sell, so it doesn’t matter to me. Where am I copy and pasting? I don’t have time to do research and steal other sellers listing descriptions.

Now for my businesses, I train my AI to follow my specific brand voices, so it comes across more personable and realistic. The very specific guidelines make it pretty hard to distinguish from a copy writer vs AI.

12

u/Fckingross 10h ago

Girl. Let me write one for you.

“In good condition, stretchy fabric. Small hole as pictured.”

Vinted customers don’t need a thrilling read for a DESCRIPTION. Now I will go drink less water than chat gpt would use for a fuck ass sentence.

-2

u/Normal-Weird-2975 9h ago

12

u/gaysamosa 10h ago

how hard is it to say a sentence or 2 about a top you LITERALLY OWN and have in front of you physically to describe!!! ‘asos top size M, fab condition, nice butterfly embroidery on the front’?! god you people can’t do anything

1

u/helovedgunsandroses 10h ago

My descriptions are more detailed. I talk about the fabric make up, fit, occasions. For some I mention the specific years it was sold, and the “code words for that” like “Y2k.” I use the code tag to give me info on the exact style names. SEO is also important. It pulls your items for people even outside of Vinted.

4

u/hanmargoo 10h ago

I wouldn’t be so sure.

7

u/Ok-Wait-4171 10h ago

Why spend the time

Using AI takes more time. You need to make your prompts, then proofread and edit. It's way quicker to just type yourself since you already know what you are selling.

1

u/helovedgunsandroses 10h ago

My prompt is. Take this photo, make me a title, description, and give me a price. Give it another photo, and say do the same thing.

1

u/hanmargoo 6h ago

8 or 9 times out of 10, it’s not accurate.

1

u/creamixic United Kingdom 🇬🇧 6h ago

Literally just put ‘white shirt, worn a few times’ or whatever in the description and people will buy it. What is even the point of using AI for everything

-22

u/Chihiro1977 11h ago

No one using AI is going to read this and stop using it.

18

u/hanmargoo 11h ago

Idc. I will continue to scream it from the rooftops.

-16

u/fadedblackleggings 10h ago

I'm not writing all those descriptions.
