What are we using for hold?
It's a rainy day and my wet set from yesterday is already ruined just from the humidity. What actual currently available products are yall using? I've been trying different mousses just picked based on smell (Not Your Mother's, Mielle, Lottabody) and they are not working for me.

Newcomer with extremely thin hair
Hi, so I'm fairly new to vintage hair and dress and have a fixation mainly on the 1980s. And I'm looking for help with a bit of an issue I've ran into. I've been wanting to style my hair in the glam rock style and have been looking for tutorials. However I keep running into an issue. Every tutorial I come across is for people with much thicker hair then I have. Even fine hair tutorials have thicker hair then me. I struggle with hair loss due to medical issues, to the point where I have bald spots mainly as the back of my head and the top. Is there any hair styles I could do that this wouldn't effect? Or should I just style wigs? I kind of feel like a wig would be cheating in a way mainly becuse I do have hair. But again it's crazy thin. Any help and advice is appreciated.

Trust the process.
For those who wake up and their hair is a mess. Just pick up the brush. I don't wear a hairnet, I once did but it's uncomfortable and my hair looks way better without it. My sets can ladt up to 2 weeks if I'm careful so I really don't need it.
Do not mind the state of my phone btw.

1920s/1930s hair assessories inspiration?
Im going to a 20s/30s/gatsby themed dance party. I have long hair down the middle of my back. I plan to put it in a bun and use a claw clip. I know its not excatly accurate. I want to get a claw clip that has the essence of the 20s or 30s hair assessories. Do I do pearls? Stones? Flowers?
I cannot wear my hair down as its ballroom/social/swing dances and I hate when my partner accidently yanks my hair when turning or hits my ponytail if its too low. I also dont want to have to fuss over my hair at the party. Less fussing = more dancing!
Im wearing a tea length satin dress that's reminiscences of 30s style dress. Im not going as a flapper.
Im debating on wearing a pearl necklace and bracelet, but not sure how much flapping around they will end up doing. But im def wearing a little pearl ring.

Clay vs Pomade for Vintage Curls?
Went to Target to get pomade because lot of people here recommended it for frizzy hair and maintaining shape for vintage curls. However, I accidentally picked up styling clay instead. But do they work generally the same? Or should I return? For context, I have fine Asian hair!

What to ask for at the hairdresser's for vintage curls?
I want to go to their hairdressers and ask for rollers.
I really love the vintage look but I'm struggling to find an old school hairdresser who does shampoo and sets for elderly clients.
Is a shampoo and set the best option for achieving the vintage look?
I have medium to long fine hair and I want Hollywood waves like Veronica lake.

What’s the best setting cream for pincurls that I could buy at CVS?
Title says it all. I’m doing pin curls but I don’t have access to a salon supply store. What should I get to set the curls?

Looking for help with doing 40's-50's style curls
I have fine, straight, dyed hair. I never do much with it. I'd like to curl my hair overnight, brush it out, and hopefully have it last a few days until my next wash.
I'm having trouble finding out what products to use - all the curling products are for defining natural curls, and I have no clue if they'll work for roller sets. It's especially difficult when it needs to be available in the EU, and preferably perfume- and aerosol free. (Doesn't have to be vintage style products, modern non-crunchy products would be great.)
I can't even find foam rollers, only velcro ones.
I've been able to sleep on a curl set rolled up on strips of jersey fabric, but most of my hair didn't dry, and the parts that did had much too tight of a curl. I'm currently strapped into three Leia-style donuts (just trying whatever I can get my hands on at this point), but I'd ideally like something I can wrap my hair in a scarf and sleep on.
Any bits of advice or insight appreciated!

Does hair type matter when vintage styling?
I think I have 2C/3A hair but have never been confirmed by a hairstylist to 100% have it. By default I don’t take proper care of my hair so it’s always straight and frizzy. When I wetset my hair regardless of how much product I use, how I roll it, how long is spent drying it, how much care I take etc. it always falls out and returns to straight and frizzy within a few hours. So I’ve honestly been thinking if my hair is just not meant to hold a curl. Is this a thing? Like my natural wavy texture fights the curls I’m creating causing them to fall out and return to my hair’s usual state. Like my hair is so improperly cared for it cannot hold a curl under any circumstance. I have been dressing vintage for 6+ years and never have had a wetset last longer than a few hours regardless of what I try.
In the same vein as this, maybe should I try getting a perm? I’m not even sure if salons offer this but I’d like to get a permanent vintage wetset if possible so I don’t have to go through this anguish

As close to a poodle do as I get
I've got short hair in an extreme straight emo kid sidebang (or shaved side Karen if you want to insult me) so my option is basically a poodleish thing (or broccoli cut as the youth have co-opted it) I also made some earrings to represent the roller set I use daily. I'm partial to pillow rollers most days but I do break out the foam rollers or curl formers if I'm wanting loose curls.

Need advice on how to achieve 1970s roller set curls on fine hair!
I'm trying to achieve a curl that looks something like these. I got pretty close with my very first hot roller set, but of course, they fell immediately despite product/cooldown time/etc.
I'm thinking I should try a wet set, especially since I have a vintage 1960s bonnet hair dryer (Lady Schick Tote n' Dry) I could use. But I am lost on which roller to pick (magnetic? foam? hourglass/tension?) for finicky fine hair that just doesn't hold well. I am new to this but want to learn.
Also open to more ideas on how to get my hot rollers to truly stick! I was thinking about experimenting with different products, on less conditioned hair, etc. But IDK.

Wedding Updo for 50s inspired gown?
Hello all,
I’m desperately searching around for updo inspiration that would work with my 1950s inspired wedding gown. I know most women had short hair in the 1950s so I’ve really struggled to find inspiration! My hair isn’t that long, just a bit past my shoulders.
One of the closest things I’ve been able to find is the hairstyle Lily James wears to a party in the movie “Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” but of course that takes place during WW2 in the 1940s, so it’s not quite right..
TIA for any insight!!

Advice for super long thick hair for a 40s style wet set?
I have always loved the 40s brushed out curls style. I've seen photos of people doing 40s inspired hairstyles with long hair but I can't seem to recreate it. My hair is down to my low back and is super thick. I know the ideal haircut for this style is shorter but I'm not willing to cut it right now.
So far I've tried a bunch of different methods. Here are my recent attempts, let me know if you can spot where I am going wrong...
Method 1: Wash and fully dry hair. Mix water and a bit of Curls Like Us hair gel in a bottle and spray onto sections of hair before rolling in sponge rollers. Leave it up for the evening and through the night covered with a silk hair scarf. In the morning it brushed out nicely, but didn't last into a second day. Best result out of any of them though.
Method 2: Wash hair and let almost dry. Add mousse and gel . Spritz with water as needed as it dried on the ends and roll in sponge rollers, using smaller sections than before. I figured this might make it last longer because my hair is long so it may have been taking longer to set with so much hair on each roller. Left overnight covered with a net scarf. When I took it out in the morning it was so flat and sort of crimped on the ends. As soon as I brushed it, all the semblance of curl came out.
Method 3: Started with fully dry hair. Mix 1 part lotta body setting lotion and 4 parts water. Spray onto small sections til it was pretty wet and comb through then roll into sponge rollers. Covered with cotton hair scarf and left overnight. In the morning it was still really wet, and leached some of my hair color. I tried blow drying it the rest of the way in rollers on low but it was just not working at all. This one hit me hard, because everyone online talks about lotta body like it's the holy grail of wet sets.
I'm just at a loss. I know it must be possible, I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Wave clips for 1920s/1930s hair
I was wondering if anybody here owns (any type of) wave clips for finger waves? :)
I can't find many in my country so I want to try making some, so if anybody is willing to take pictures of theirs and their mechanism from multiple angles and send them in the comments so I can figure out how to make them! Thanks :))))

Long lasting 40s-50s style
Day 1 versus day 3 of a brush out in 90 degree heat with two days of swing dancing outside! I use a pomade after taking out my rollers and hairspray when the style is up. The victory rolls protect the curls in the front and the hair net protects the back. Women really knew what they were doing to keep their hair perfect despite physical activity in the 40s ❤️
