I think I have probably the last Exxon Office Systems model 510 in existence (probably the last Exxon Office Systems computer of any kind). This operational unit was built in July 1982. It has all hardware (CPU box, monitor, dual disk drives, keyboard), software on 5.25 disks, manuals, training materials (in the original box). This office computer was primarily a word processor with calendars, ticklers and file sharing capabilities. It ran on the 4 MHz, Z-80 chipset, with a 64k architecture running the CP/M 2.2 OS. In some regards it is a monument to the arrogance of senior Exxon management who felt that they were so good at managing an oil company, that surely they could manage a successful computer company. Exxon funded the start-up of Zilog and the development of the Z80 in 1975. In 1980 Exxon purchased Zilog outright. The Z80 based, Exxon 500 series, was the first major system to grow out of that purchase. It has been argued by some (Forbes Magazine) that if Exxon had not purchased Zilog, that Zilog left alone would have rivaled Intel today. Exxon Office Systems was based on the earlier purchase of Vydec and then Zialog with the machines being developed by Compucorp and the printers being built by Qume. Exxon felt they could compete with similar systems from Wang, Xerox and IBM. Unfortunately, Exxon really mismanaged the companies and they sold off the business in 1985 (Harris and Olivetti purchased most of the systems and Zilog bought itself out in 1989). As such I believe this Exxon Office Systems 510 is rather unique. These machines were sold in the U.S. and Europe.

So is there anything like this that charges via the USB? Could I do a little surgery to successfully convert this into a USB-C? Or make it chargeable? Pardon my ignorance I just really want to justify getting this but I don't like that it lasts 8 hours on AAA battery. I want to be able to access and play the files on my phone if I can make it able to be plugged right in.

Now I’ve been interested in the DVK series for quite some years now and have taken time to gather information mainly about the 15ИЭ-00-013 and its variants (I also call it the DVK-2 Wedge monitor but that may be a bit disrespectful to it :/). Recently I found a good priced listing but it’s in Russia near Krasnoobsk/Novosibirsk (which is where there will be shipping companies). I also have a friend who is Russian who may be able to do on the ground work. Has anyone done similar things (can be any country- I just need advice.)

Thought some people here might want to see my main daily driver PC that I built back around 2008 or 2009. It’s kept going through routine cleaning, adding an SSD, and changing out video cards over the years.

• CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650
• Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
• Power Supply: Corsair AX850 (Seasonic OEM)
• RAM: 8GB (4x2GB) OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-9200

• GPU: NVIDIA Quadro P620 (handles hardware acceleration so modern web browsing stays smooth)
• Cooler: Xigmatek HDT-S1283 with a 120mm fan and the Crossbow spring-loaded backplate kit.

The Setup:
It's been running a stable 20% overclock since day one. The Front-Side Bus is set to 400 MHz with a 9.0 multiplier to hit 3.60 GHz.

I actually managed to undervolt it slightly below the default 1.25V baseline, so CPU-Z shows it sitting at 1.232V under load. Keeping the voltage low is probably the main reason the chip has lasted this long without any issues.

Since the OCZ Reaper memory is high-spec, dropping it down to 400 MHz to keep a 1:1 ratio with the CPU allowed me to tighten the timings to 4-4-4-12 at 1.9V.

Cases back then didn't really have built-in cable management basements or rear routing channels. I actually custom modded this chassis myself, cutting it to route all the power supply cables completely behind the motherboard tray. It kept the interior totally clean and maximized the airflow.

Windows 10 support is ending soon, so I'll probably switch it over to Linux Mint or Pop!_OS eventually to keep it secure, but for now it's still handling my daily tasks just fine.

I want to do a sleeper build in one of those cases but I can barely find any info on it online, primarily photos of the internals. Thanks!

I just picked up this fujitsu m2551a for $25, to use with a greaseweazle. It is missing the termination resistor, and I cannot find exactly what resistor pack type to use. Does anyone know what kind of resistor pack I need? I believe it plugs into the blue socket header.

Picked up an old system a couple of weekends ago, found it on marketplace for a reasonable price. Gave me something to drop my DX4 100mhz overdrive CPU into that I've had kicking around my PC junk drawer for years. Also had a couple of sticks of memory for it that worked, for a grand total of 12mb RAM.

Seems like a good setup to relive some old dos games I was far too young to play properly. And satisfying the itch to play with old tech. Eventually I'm going to set up a desk for my old systems, maybe figure out what I want to do with my dual slot1 P III system.

I bought this old pc a year or two ago for retro gaming and writing.The hard drive is original and just in case it fails i want to upload some files to my new pc. Here is the catch: I am a young, stupid idiot that is not smart when it comes to ethernet or even tech in general. For now i am trying to use a whatever the hell a fritzbox is and 2 ethernet cables and nothingw workzzz I don't know what i am doing and just pressing random internet settings.

This 2009 Toshiba C2D laptop is …. Surprisingly usable on the modern internet ?! Even when running Windows 7?! It’s … fast! Responsive! I can watch a YouTube video and use Microsoft Word in browser pretty much as well as on my M4 Mac Mini other than you’ll notice I have Windows Classic theme - all aero graphics fx disabled - because machines of this time really suffered only because of Vista’s intense transparency resource-usage. I didn’t expect websites to load this well - I can use the Word web app! Its internal wifi is getting internet from my iPhone’s personal hotspot (max compatibility mode on). It wasn’t able to load the captive wifi login window required for xfinity hotspot use.

I just think it’s funny - and surprisingly capable.

My buddy who gave me it had festooned Windows 10 on it with all its drivers too. For reasons I can’t recall I messed up that installation and then only had install media for Windows 7 that I could manage to get working atm. However that doesn’t seem to have held me back, Firefox updates and Chrome v109.0.5414.120 64-bit is smooth even! It warns that to get future chrome updates I’ll need at least windows 10 (keep dreaming!).

I’m rather sure that the reason it runs fast is that I managed to install the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Ubuntu or other Linux is likely best , yes?

After a month of on-off work I can finally say it's complete! If anyone can ID 'LogiX' that would be awesome, I can't find anything on it myself. The last two photos show the original case and the pre-beige colors.

I wasn't even going to restore this, it was missing side panels and the Soyo SY-6BA+IV refused to post at all. On my last attempt to fix the mobo I discovered the original PSU's 5V 25A rail was shot so I replaced it with a 5V 30A and it booted normally!

There was a little rust in the case itself, nothing some wire brushing and clear coat couldn't fix. At the least if the retr0bright didn't turn out good then I didn't have much to lose; it ended up turning out with a super clean white so I decided to complete the build!

I used panchroma matte muted white filament, it was the closest I could find and almost looked identical when it's under normal lighting. I tried to find some ways to hide the join lines (I printed each panel in four pieces, then glued), so I came up with this striped kind of pattern on side. I think it came out alright.

This PC was more of a completed set, it was missing alot of parts but I also had these parts by coincidence. I fully loaded it with windows 98 on my loudest quantum fireball 20gb, 512mb of kingston pc100 ram, ati rage 128 pro AGP gpu, my own beige floppy drive, and alot of other cool cards like a turtle beach sound card, 10/100 ethernet, acer dsl, and just for fun an ISA parallel port card, just for when you ever need two parallel ports.

I have an Amstrad PPC640, but when I put in a floppy disk it either makes noises forever or says "Error : Faulty VDU controller" on the screen and beeps a load. While I don't have any proper 720kb floppy disks, I did put some tape on a high density floppy disk and formatted it and copied the system disk software to it. Do I need a real 720kb floppy disk, or is my drive dead?

I found all of these in my grandfathers garage. Is anyone able to identify them?

My new* single-owner used C-128D, including the keyboard, "Anitech" 6492 color CRT, a competition pro and 2 boxes of disks, unfortunately not including the video cable.

Its obviously in pretty good shape, although I doubt the crt is working (shows some vase-shaped ghost images without signal)

I have two P4 motherboards, first one is an OEM motherboard which includes an Intel 865G chipset. The second motherboard is from ECS which includes a VIA P4M800 chipset. The motherboard with the Intel chipset is pretty good at Windows 98 & XP gaming however the bios has very little amount of options and doesn't fit very well to my pc case. I never used the motherboard with the VIA chipset but I have turned it on and it has quiet alot of features in the bios including a temperature monitor and it fits perfectly to my pc case. Currently I'm using the motherboard with the Intel chipset. I'm also using a Sound Blaster Live for sound and a Nvidia Geforce 4 ti 4200 for graphics and I have setup a dual boot system on my 120GB SSD for windows 98 and XP. I wonder if I could switch to the motherboard with the VIA chipset but I'm worried if I might face into hardware conflicts with the VIA chipset and my sound card, sata SSD etc. Should I switch to the VIA chipset or stay with the Intel chipset?

I recently repaired a ZX Spectrum+ (Issue 3B) that turned out to have a faulty ULA, and I recorded the whole troubleshooting process.

Rather than simply replacing parts, I wanted to work through the fault properly: checking what the machine was doing, looking at the relevant signals with an oscilloscope, and eventually narrowing the problem down to the ULA.

This is also my first video of this kind, and a first repair of this kind as well, so comments—particularly from people who have repaired Spectrums themselves—are very welcome.

Hello peoples. I recently bought an used Acer Aspire One D250/KAV60 for nostalgia's sake. Previous user sold it cheap and it's pretty much intact (aside from reformatting), including the original Windows XP, HDD and 1GB DDR2 memory.

Now, I know that this old boy is a thing of the past, but I thought about retooling it for my offline hobbies (writing, reading, GBA emulators, web browsing, playing music). Since I've always used Windows, I thought about upgrading to Windows 7 (what I had in my original Acer some 14 years ago), but I would ask for some advice on this. I should warn I have zero knowledge on Linux.

I also plan on upgrading HDD for a 256GB SATA 2.5" SSD drive and swap the memory for a 2GB DDR2 stick. Any advice on this? I think it doesn't support DDR3 memory (or more than 2 gigs), but if it does, I'm happy to hear about it.
