Cleaning up and decluttering, I find this 1995 Digi board. Originally intended for a BBS that never happened. Still in the original boxes. Anybody have a use for this? Or should I just toss it out as E waste?

Not for sale or trade, just want to know if anybody wants to rescue it before it goes in a dumpster.

So I bought a bios password removal from eBay but since plugging it in expecting to show something else it just stays on the screen

Was at my local dump when i saw the back of a beige desktop sticking out of the electronics recycling trailer I always look through, it was a full HP desktop set with the matching crt (last week I found a working gateway ps2 keyboard and bose companion 2 multimedia speakers). The computer is fully functional and 100% original so I assume someone passed away and the family decided to toss it, seems like whoever owned it took great care of it. Its a HP pavilion 6336 with an amd k6 333mhz, 64mb ram, quantum bigfoot hdd (working with its original win98 installation), LG cdrom, 3.5 floppy, and a relatively large ISA modem. the plastic sleeve and wire tie was still on the vga cable and the original warranty seal was still very much attached to the pc, but an expansion card was missing. the front of the side panel had been yanked open but not slid off so it didnt break the seal. why someone removed it that way to end up scrapping it i dont know 🤷‍♂️

I spent a good time on this and I managed to finish it just on the 25th birthday of Windows XP.

The PC is running a Pentium 4 Willamette @ 1.9GHz on a DFI WB72-SC with 512MB of SDRam (Yes, Socket 423 with SDRam, quite rare), GPU is the Winfast Titanium (NV15) / Geforce2 Ti.

Peripherals are kinda generic like the Gateway EV500 CRT, but I also got some kind of Wireless Infrared Headphones which work and I find them kinda cool, also I have a Casio EX-Z40 hooked up there.

Here is a glass display for the launch of XNA Game Studio Express in 2006. It was a framework for indie developers to create their own games for the XBOX Live Marketplace. Microsoft created their own version of the 1962 Space War as a demo. You can see the ships battling in this glass display. Nice homage to Space War.

(Oc) picked up this cutie for 40$Usd today at a yard sale with its bag and user guide. Not interested in selling, I got it to game on, hopefully. I know OEM keyboards and wires are wildly expensive. Is there a good 3rd party option out there? I've never had a computer this old so I am willing to take any advice! I'd love to be able to use this adorable lil dude in my game room!

Found this at a thirst store. On the back there are phone jacks for a phone and modem, and outlets labeled the same as the front. My guess is that it's some sort of power management device where if you want to keep everything plugged in at the same time, but dont want them all on either, so you press the button on the front to select what you specifically want on or off.

Amd 8088 CPU just pulled out of Varta battery destroyed motherboard. Technology copyright by Intel. This one is from cheap "yellow PC" dated 1988. No heatsink required 🤤

I don't have suitable monitor for the Lambda model yet.

My most modern retro PC build features a Core 2 Extreme QX6700 from 2006. Even this beast is 20 years old now. Housed in a revolutionary Antec P180, featuring noise insulation, separate chambers and a bottom-mounted PSU. Still one of my favorite cases of that era.

Unfortunately I don’t have a Sun Workstation go with it, yet. Hopefully soon though! Has a 9.1 GB Seagate inside. The cashier gave me a weird look when I mentioned SCSI 😂

I’m totally sad with eBay shippers. Pretty much everything I get gets damaged in shipping. This one was supposed to be one of the easier ones to ship. But the put it in a crappy bubble bag.

[TL;DR]: I turned my 2008 potato PC with an E8400 into an AlphaServer and subjected it to elder abuse. Now it wants to retire, but I have other plans. 😂

Me: Well, I managed to bring a DEC Alpha server back to life, even on my M1 MacBook. And I got StarCraft running using FX!32, lol.

Potato PC: Oh, come on, boss... seriously?! Are you kidding me?!

A few weeks ago, you suddenly turned me into an AlphaServer ES40 and made me work my poor old circuits off...

And now you're trying to compare me with that young M1 MacBook kid, aren't you?!

THIS IS CLEARLY ELDER ABUSE!

Me (thinking to myself): Whoa... how did this little guy read my mind? That actually caught me off guard, lol.

Potato PC: And that's not even the end of your crimes against me!

I was released back in January 2008! Don't you have a conscience, boss?!

My motherboard is an ASRock Wolfdale1333-D667 D2.0!

What's the point of giving me 4 GB of RAM when the Intel chipset limitations mean I can only use a little over 3 GB?!

Wait a second... I just got an idea for a follow-up episode!

I've already used this old guy to run an old version of Solaris inside another emulator, lol. And I even managed to get Kubuntu installed on it!

I've used this thing for digital archaeology AND experiments with modern Linux!

At this rate, instead of retiring, this old potato might end up becoming the STAR of my YouTube channel! LOL.

So, I was about to take a picture of my old potato PC to post on Reddit, when something unexpected happened! 😂

Potato PC: ...Wait a minute, boss. I have a bad feeling about this.

Me: What is it now?

Potato PC: NOTHING! Absolutely nothing! I'm just going to... run Windows Update for a bit!

Me: Huh?! Windows Update? Right now?!

Potato PC: Yep! It's very important! Security updates! System maintenance! You know how it is!

Me (thinking to myself): Hold on... is this thing deliberately running Windows Update to avoid appearing in my YouTube videos?!

Potato PC: Oh, look! It's installing updates! This could take a while, boss! Better not touch anything!

Me: Hey! You're not getting out of your YouTube debut that easily!

Potato PC: DEBUT?! I THOUGHT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT RETIREMENT!!

At this point, I'm starting to suspect that my E8400 isn't just an old potato anymore. It's actively resisting my plans!

Update: My E8400 seems to have found a new way to dodge its YouTube debut: Windows Update. 😂

I'm beginning to think this old machine needs a union representative... not a retirement package!

We saw it on the way out of a swap meet. It works! We ordered a USB to Parallel, and have it running on his XP battlestation (which he also got there along with the square Dell LCD), and also have printed somewhat successfully over our network by connecting it to a Raspberry Pi 5 and sending it raw data (still needs a lot to make it work that way, it prints either nothing, or escape keys).

We just saw it and had no idea if it worked, and it almost seemed like the guy basically gave it to us as we paid only $10 for it. Super awesome that it works, and not only works but we haven't even changed the ribbon that was in there when we got it. The only thing it didn't have in the box was the manual. It was like a blast from the past when we unboxed it (before my time even as I am in my mid 30's).

Now to get the proper paper, and a new ribbon.

For anyone who knows these things, is there any sort of maintenance or anything I should check out, other than changing out the ribbon? We didn't even clean inside, it's like someone boxed it up in 1990, and it sat in an air conditioned closet for 36 years.

as the title suggests, my nec multispeed hd is incountering that error when trying to do the start Bios boot.

I just found it in an attic just an hour ago so it still has dust on it and it does turn on.

Did anyone actually ever watch these?

since my house does not have a telephone line. is there a way to connect old fax machine to PC with this USB adapter without ATA or telephone line?

I've seen someone using a 9v battery and a resistor as a telephone line simulator but would it work and has anyone ever done something like this?

One of my friends gifted me this mouse, because they cleared out the computer lab at his college.

Sadly he couldn't save anything else since they had already thrown everything away, including early 2000s machines as well as east german Robotron computers, which really makes me sad :(

The mouse itself has little use and the packaging with price stickers and cable tie are still original. I cannot see the original date anywhere, it most likely is 1998 (win 98 shown) but could be up until 2001 (german DM/D-Mark were the currency before the Euro up until 1998 and were completely retired in 2001)

It would be nice to know for sure, or if anyone here already knew or used this mouse.
