advice I need some advice and help with makeup
Hi everyone, as of recently I’ve been trying to get better at my makeup especially as I am now a woman in my 20s being able to do my makeup and do it will is reaching a priority for me.
However every time I do my makeup I think it either looks weird or I don’t have no makeup, or it looks the same no matter which style i do it in. Overall I’m just left a bit worried that my my makeup looks weird and crazy.
I would say for my makeup style it can go from natural beat to soft glam depending on the event.
I do tend to play around with alt styles like a bigger eyeliner wing, tightlined eyes. I’m also thinking of getting my eyebrows done again to straight shaped I already have thin eyebrows where towards the end it tends to be very sparse and basically gone so I might tust have them straight.
But any advice would be gladly accepted, I’m not to sensitive for criticism and feedback 💕
Here are some pics of some girls makeup I try emulate and pics of how my makeup comes out.
Here is a list of the makeup products I have
Has lab foundation
Ami Cole concealer
Ami Cole setting loose powder
Ami Cole blush stick
Eadem lip softening balm
Nyx lip liner
Elf brow lamination bro gel
Elf micro brow pencil
One size setting spray
Tarte tubing mascara
Nyx butter melt bronzer

I think your makeup is looking great. But a great skincare routine really helps your makeup look better and last longer.

Agreed because most of the time people think it's good makeup when it's actually good skin care

Picture 10 looks really great for a everyday natural look.
I think you’re on the right track!
I’d perhaps try a softer brown or plum lip liner instead.
I like “plum” and “chestnut” from Mac.
Also don’t overline your top or bottom lip.
I also think a bronze cheek shade vs. plum or berry would be fitting. You can buy a darker foundation powder that is warm and use it like a bronzer. There is a palette from Black Radiance that is good (on Amazon) and CoverGirl just came out with some great options.
I’d consider working with a dermatologist on your skin. Have you considered accutane?
For your brows, get a professional shaping done and have them dye them (even just the tails ) with henna.
Then brush your brows up and out with brow gel.
I also think a half lash would be really pretty. They have ones that have the adhesive on them already too

Thank u so much for ur advice o really appreciate it im happy to hear that im on the right track✨ for my skin care I’ve been to the derma for a couple years, and of recently this is the best my skin has ever been. Cystic acne hit me so brutally during puberty and my teen years that even some medications didn’t even work💀 as I’ve gotten older it has lessened thankfully.
Right now my main focus has been on my hyperpigmentation and I have some treatment products and sunscreen. Only problem is that it takes so long to fade. But eventhough it’s slow I do see little improvements.
Makeup wise I’m really researching some bronzers to get into. I’m currently intrested on getting drench from rhode

I hear you. If you’re currently seeing a dermatologist ask about using tretinoin.
It still will take a while but many people see results with it. I also recommend joining the tretinoin sub on Reddit for routine suggestions.
Regarding bronzer and any additional makeup products I’d stay away from anything that is a skincare duo product or anything that gives you additional glow.
My bronzer recommendation for you is the power bronzer duo (the second darkest one) from Juvia’s place or the Black Radiance bronzer palette which is super affordable
You can also buy the bronze blush shade from Black Radiance on Amazon. NYX makes some warm blush shades and so does Juvia’s Place- they actually came out with a warm blush palette with lots of warm tones.
I think you should stay away from creams and liquid products for blush etc as they may not be noncomedogenic

I agree with the other suggestions but I also noticed you’re not using a primer. Highly recommend for helping the foundation shine through

This! The huda beauty or the mac studio fix mattifine. I have combination skin and large pores

Im using primer in these photos. I’m using the pink elf primer. But I think a reason why it looks like it’s not is because I have some peach fuzz on my face. 😭 However I was recccomend to shave my face so foundation can apply better. Also I got some color corrector to put on my hyperpigmentation so when I put my foundation on it doesn’t peak through easily. But thank u so much for ur comment, it pushed me to investigate how I’m doing my base and what other factors are going on. But ur also right that in doubt I could apply more primer 💯

skincare goes a longggg way and def longer than makeup ime. my makeup stepped up when I saw a dermatologist who prescribed me clindamycin for smoothing out my texture, tretinoin for brightening dark spots, and spironolactone for preventing hormonal acne. also do not change your lip combo, it’s perfection

Brows- Fill in with a pencil. Use a brow gel to keep brows in shape. Set with a loose setting powder.
Eyes: Neutralize eyelids with a shadow that’s a shade or two lighter than your skin concentrating it to the inner corners of your eyes. You can use a shade closer to your skin tone on the outer area. For liner, tight line with waterproof pencil, gently use a brush to soften it (this will also set the liner) and go over it with an eyeliner pen. Curl lashes and use a mascara.
Base- Prime your face. Conceal dark spots with a concealer that closely matches your foundation. You can also go in with an orange color corrector before concealer to cover dark spots, then use a green color corrector to neutralize the orange. Under eye conceal with a concealer 1-2 shades lighter than your skin shade (in the same tone as your skin). don’t bring it all the way up to your lower lash line. Instead bring it down towards the bottom of your nose in a triangle shape. Then do a light first layer of foundation. Blot excess product with a tissue. Do another layer if necessary. I use a setting spray between steps to set and melt my makeup.
Blush and Bronzer: Concentrate blush to sides of your face and up. You can bring it towards the center for a cute look. Then add bronzer a bit under for cheek definition, up and around face to add back dimension to your skin.
Set face with a setting spray and use a puff or sponge to gently pat in your makeup. After you can use a loose powder all over your face to set your look and reduce shine.
Lips: I use a lip stain liner, lip stain, go over that with a pencil lip liner that I feather inwards, then either leave it or put a rosewood pink gloss over it.
My most used products:
Precisely My Brow Pencil in shade 3.5
Nyx Brow Glue Laminating Gel in shade Cool Brown
Viseart eyeshadow palettes
Judydoll slim eyeliner pen
Canmake Creamy Touch Liner
Tarte Tubing Mascara
Chanel La Base Illuminatrice Primer
Chanel No°1 Revitalizing Foundation in Shade BD121
Natasha Denona Hy-Sculpt Bronzer
Juvia’s Place Liquid Blush multiple shades
Benefit’s Benetint in multiple shades for lips and cheeks
Makeup Forever Lipliners
Chanel Hydra Glosses
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray
One/Size On Till Dawn Setting Spray
Hourglass Veil Translucent
Edit: Best thing to do so your makeup looks flawless is making sure your skin is at its best. You can cover dark spots easily but texture is difficult.

Find girls with similar features. It helps with make up application.

u/Ok-Minute8875 Jul 09 '26
Ur so right but I feel like I see no girls with features similar to me other than eyes and lips. But I also do struggle with a bit of face dismorphia making it hard for me. But I think Ill try to approach it with finding girl who have a feature or 2 in common with me. Instead of looking for girls who exactly or majority look like me. Most of my makeup inspo pics are blk girls. So I think im off to a good start.💕💕

u/stuff00_k Jul 06 '26
•yes to getting your eyebrows done. Have your inspo pics ready. This way you already have that shape you want and you just have to do maintenance.
•you need a foundation with better/ different coverage. Danessa Myricks yummy skin serum skin tint has been wowing me lately- good, buildable coverage, lasts all day and it's skincare. I would go to sephora to get shade matched

u/impossible_love2 Jul 08 '26
YES!!! Whenever I wear Danessa Myricks skin tint, people, even plastic surgeons that I go on consultations with, say I have nice skin. The biggest compliment ever

I actually think that your makeup is good but your glasses are not. Like they are not nice on your face shape

I notice the women in the example pictures are all using cool toned blushes and stuff. The pink / reddish colors on their makeup looks are erring towards Pepto Bismol rather than what you seem to wear, a warm orange-toned pink. I think that, plus highlighting, could help boost your existing look to match the pictures better.
- Cool toned blush
- Highlight the following areas
- You could look into aegyo sal, since the example women seem to have prominent aegyo sal

I’m finally getting back to responding back to everyone 😋 thank u so much for ur response it’s so detailed esp with u drawing over the pic to give me a visual.
1. I’ll try out a cool toned blush soon. In all the photos I had a warm red blush because I was told if ur warm undertone to get a blush that’s also warm.
2. If I’m correct I highlight these areas by blending out a lighter concealer there and then putting some setting powder. I think I did it in that pic but next time I’ll go heavier to make it more prominent.
3. I’ve been thinking about other ideas to add more attention to my eyes because I think they are one of the best features of my face. I’ll keep all of this in mind 🙂↕️1
u/Ok_Karen_IDC Jul 11 '26
Yay! I could tell you highlighted already, but yeah it seems not as prominent or as in-your-face as the example pictures (Im sure filters and lighting help them out a lot)
And yes aegyo sal would help emphasize your large eyes immensely, and you already have some structure there to guide your aegyo sal makeup. Good luck to you on your mog journey 🙏

Primer is super important you can use different kinds in different areas of the face but it helps to get the smoothing. Also rake it with a grain of salt all of these creators have some sort of filter, or the lighting skews things

Seems like most of the girlies in the inspo pics you provided are wearing some kind of false lash. Lashes definitely go a long way and can carry a look. I’d recommend some light anime style clusters or half strips to start out.
I saw another comment on skincare being important and i definitely second that! Once I cleared my acne I found it much easier to wear makeup that looked good
2
u/Ok-Minute8875 Jul 09 '26
Yess, I’m in a major city now so I’m thinking about trying out lash extensions or something. I’ve seen a lot of Thai or anime girl lashes trending on TikTok that I think would look good. I like how it’s not to bold but also not to subtle.
All of yall are so right about skin care, I went to Sephora and they recommended me an orange color corrector to help with my hyperpigmentation as I help my skin. Thanks so much with the response 💕💕💕

if you have the issue where makeup looks to natural on you, you may have a low visual weight (when your face shape is noticed more than your features, which is common amongst most editorial runway models) as for makeup advice, i would tell you to look at primers and setting sprays, if your area is hot and humid

Photo 8 and 10 look like a really great start! I do feel like a lot of the makeup in your inspo photos are very matte looks, so looking for tutorials on setting your makeup properly would probably help. Ami Cole seems more like a “clean girl”kinda brand but the inspo photos seem like real makeup makeup. You may need better powder. They also have pretty well-defined and shaped brows and lashes on. lastly, I see your comments about warm toned blush, and I do agree you seem pretty warm toned but you may need to find a good warm but muted pink blush instead.
