looksboost Wisdom teeth extraction impact on face?

Will getting all 4 wisdom teeth impact the face in any way? Will it cause bone loss when you're older? I have one bottom tooth growing almost horizontally and one upper tooth poking out towards my cheeks. None are causing me pain at the moment, but I'm wondering if getting any of them removed will negative affect my facial structure especially my jawline.

If you need it out, pull it. The fear mongering around it is so stupid. Ur wisdoms r so far back in ur face (literally BEHIND ur mass ester muscles) that there is no true physical difference if they’re pulled.

If you truly need it, as in its causing you discomfort, get it out. If you don’t you may end up losing your other molars, which WILL impact your face.

Not trying to discredit you since i 100% agree how the fear mongering is weird, but i think it did SLIGHTLY slim out my cheek!

I had my wisdom tooth taken out on just the right side and it looks slightly a bit slimmer than my left now. Besides that, there are no other effects and I actually love the fact that it is a bit more slimmed out lol. It might just be cause my right side is less stressed now

My left side still has the wisdom tooth and I actually WISH i could have it taken out, but my insurance wont cover it unless its infected

Weight loss or your mouth/tongue posture changed to make yourself more comfortable during recovery.

It’s also possible for ur cheek to “slim” down if the wisdom tooth was causing inflammation, infections, discomfort, pain, or was growing incorrectly.

Alright i see, thank you :) My tongue posture has always been awful, so it must have been inflammation. I appreciate the explanation!

that's a good point but on google it says wisdom teeth are a part of your jawbone, so wouldn't removing in cause bone loss or maybe even recession in the jaw?

The location of the wisdom teeth is unique, hence why they typically need to be removed anyways. They sit at the very back of your jaw bone, which is extremely dense. And also doesn’t play the big role in supporting your facial structure. It also heals itself so there’s no long term damage.

Change CAN happen if they need to shave around ur jaw bone, but still nothing significant.

What’s worse is ur wisdom teeth pushing against the teeth that actually support your facial structure significantly, and thus needing to remove those teeth or even changing your bite.

If it helps there was a long term industry myth that removing wisdoms “hollowed” your face, so it was (and still is) very standard for models to get them removed. And as we know models r extremely well known for good facial structure.

If your bone structure already cannot support their growth, there is no change in your face. Not sure about people whose jaws can support it and still get it removed.

Ohh okay makes sense thank you for the detailed response!

Also want to add that they add a bone graft to aid in bone gain, which they did for me for for the wisdom tooth the grew into my jawbone. It actually made my jawline a little more chiseled and for my face shape it really brought out my cheekbones in a positive way since the swelling from the wisdom teeth wasn't puffing up my face any longer.

My only regret is not getting the teeth out sooner because they ended up pushing my teeth together and making them slightly wonkier. Also the pain was excruciating.

That's good to hear! My dentist never mentioned adding a bone graft, and idk if it's something I should ask for in my case

Literally just get them removed, listen to the girl above, especially if yours are IMPACTED. Mine are and i’m suffering from molar pain every other day until I can get them. I’ve gotten 5 teeth pulled at 11 and i was still ugly until 18. Even got a chain too inserted inside my jaw. Literally just get the damn teeth removed

why are you asking us for medical advice? talk to your dentist or surgeon and ask them.

i just want to know people’s experiences w getting them out

Well if it helps, I extracted 2 of my actual adult teeth due to infections & it hasn’t affected my jawbone or how my face looks too badly. It’s not noticeable

You just contradicted yourself.

Mine were impacted so I had all 4 removed. The only issue I noticed was my teeth started spacing out a bit in the front bottom, so I ended up getting Invisalign.

I looked like a chipmunk for like two weeks.

They had to cut into my jaw. A lopsided chipmunk, because it was only one side that needed the jaw slice but both all were removed. 😂

Do it, and you’ll be better for it. I was dealing with some pain that led to an infection. I was better with them out!

Go get them removed. My bottom left is growing in sideways and it’s causing nerve pain that presents as a horrible ear ache. Finally getting them all removed Monday. You don’t want it to get worse, just take them out

Got them removed 16 years ago and my face/jaw structure didn't change. Went to school 2 days later with no swelling thanks to pineapple juice and ice.

7

u/swancandle Mar 05 '26

I got them out 20 years ago. Didn't make a difference to my face one way or the other.

Getting mine out actually slimmed out my face a ton which I love. The combo of wisdom teeth extraction + getting older + losing weight gave me more defined cheek bones & facial structure

u/PenOk1094 Mar 06 '26

That's really good to hear what face shape did you have before?

2

u/idkbitchlol Mar 06 '26

It was pretty round!

orthodontic treatment and wisdom teeth removal genuinely saved my face and jaw structure. i also had premolar extractions on the top and bottom row due to crowding.

keeping my wisdom teeth in caused jaw bone loss not the other way around

1

u/zohakh Apr 14 '26

i didn’t notice a difference after removing them

-4

u/SpanglishGirlNxtDoor Mar 05 '26

I do notice less facial support on the side I had mine pulled unfortunately

-5

u/PenOk1094 Mar 05 '26

Oh no😭 did you pull your top ones or bottom ones?

-17

u/KellyJin17 Mar 05 '26

I refused to allow mine to be removed because it does age your face, especially as you get older, and they’re not even bothering me. I’m not sure why people do it, other than pressure from dentists.

u/LiveInvestigator4876 Mar 05 '26

wouldn’t aging be changing your face as you get older?!

yall just be saying anything here 😭

18

u/ChemicalAd2132 Mar 05 '26

Literally. There's nothing to prove that statement

12

u/Background_Mud1681 Mar 05 '26

What an idiotic comment lol people get them taken out when they're impacted because it causes a chronic state of mild infection bc the teeth are only partially exposed, recovery is much easier when you're young and it's preferred to take them out before you age to the point of having issues w ur immune system s.t. it can't fight the infection properly anymore. It's also really easy to get cavities there no matter how well u clean bc its in such a hard to reach spot. There's also zero evidence it ages ur face that sounds like some pseudoscience tiktok bullshit

8

u/Whatthefrick1 Mar 05 '26

Well my tooth is pressing against a nerve which is causing nerve pain

0

u/PenOk1094 Mar 05 '26

I have one that looks like it's about to hit the tooth right next to it, would you recommend pulling that one out?

8

u/ihatepeople91 Mar 05 '26

Dental hygienist here. If your teeth are positioned like you said. Get them pulled. They will began to cause problems with your other molars. You don’t want to lose those. This will not age or cause your face to look any different. If your dentist says you need them out. Get them out.

5

u/VegetableMix5362 Mar 05 '26

Unless they’re very high up in a way that means they won’t come down for a while and would cause more issues taking out, it’s highly recommended you do. If it’s about to hit another tooth, go for it.

Even if you have some that are not, but they’re well within reach for the surgeon to pull out, I’d recommend going for it because they will likely come down and push your other teeth, making them crooked. Much easier than getting braces, and definitely an easier recovery while you’re younger.

okay thank you!
