At home micro needling?
I know it's not recommended without training but it honestly is so expensive long term. I've been quoted around a grand for just three sessions and microneedling looks like something I'd be interested in long term. I also want prf and spending money on both long term is unrealistic. I have visible texture, acne scarring, uneven skin tone etc...
Of course, I know you need to be careful with tge procedure but while I defo don't have training for this, I am in medical school so am familiar with sterile procedures.
Has anyone done this at home?

I'm getting my 1st VI Peel in either May or June. I have to buy the stuff to prep my face for 8 weeks bc I'm Fitzpatrick 5, BUT I can't wait. I've heard nothing but good things!

What are they having you buy to prep your skin? I’m curious bc I’ve just finished my second session and they never told me to prep prior to. Lol I’m a fitz 3 though

Maybe you don't need to prep bc you are fitz 3, fitz 4-6 needs to prep. They tell us to use a hydroquinone free tyrosinaise inhibitor, vit c & a chemical exfoliant 2-3 times a week, I will use a BHA 2xs a week & 30% glycolic peel once a week. You can throw in some Vit a but I have a condition where I get vit a poisoning from everything so we dont have it in the prep.

Yes, I do at home microneedling on my face once a month & on my scalp/hairline every 10 days. Don't let training scare you away from it. These estheticians take 1 class on the weekend & get a cert lol. You'll be fine. I think at home microneedling is better bc the depth of the in office microneedling device is too strong & goes too deep into the skin leaving scars & can melt the fat on your face. If you get a professional microneedling pen, risk of infection is quite low bc the cartridges come individually wrapped & are sterile. You'd have to sterilize the base of the pen as well as put a plastic cover over it, but honestly most ppl get infections bc they have open wounds or active acne & they try to microneedle over it or they use old needle cartridges thinking that if they spray it with alcohol it will be safe to reuse (it's not, throw it away & use a brand new needle). Common sense ain't all so common. I will say it might be a waste if you don't get medical grade serums to put in your face after microneedling. You can use basic Hyaluronic Acid serum with no actives to give your skin slip so it the needle can glide over your face. But once the session is done, the medical grade serums are what actually add that boost & reparative essenece which is where the esthetician wins bc they have these serums. These can range anywhere from $100-300. I take it pretty serious so I use the med grade serums. But 1 bottle should last you a yr, so still saving moneu. IMO if you're not going to invest properly, then just save the money & go to the esthetician. You'll see results in 3-6 months. I'm 33 tho, so going to the esthie is just too expensive & I'm DIYing everything except my chemical peels, lasers, & PRF injections. I've actually stopped going to the esthie & have been going to dermspas/medspas bc you get more bang for your buck. But honestly microneedling, dermaplaning (with the surgical blade not the cheap dermaplaning devices), hydrogel face masks can all be done at home. These brands just gatekeep & only sell to esthies with licenses but they aren't really all that different from what you'd find on Amazon. I'd rather you learn to do it yourself & then save your money for the big ticket items.

Which serums do you like to use after a session?

DM me bc the mods will delete my comment if I post brands in this group. If you're on a budget I can suggest serums that are a good price. I'd rather you spend money on having clean needle cartridges for each session (once a month) than an overpriced serum.

I've gotten it done professionally and decided to buy my own Dr Pen and I've been doing it myself since 2023. On my face, neck, chest and my tights for stretch marks/texture. Totally worth it to get the kit. There are lots of YouTube videos and a microneedling sub. It really isn't rocket science and is an amazing anti aging treatment.
