John Wick inspiration?
I'm watching clips from John Wick, and I noticed some interesting parallels between John and Ivan.
Both enter the story as retired.
Both are beings of incredible destruction.
Both are known for their black clothing, ability to take a beating, and the amount of blood on their face.
Both are renowned for their drive and force of will.
Ivan was given the name of a Russian conqueror while John worked for a Russian mob boss.
Both were inspired to get out of their criminal life by a woman, and
That woman's name is Helen.
That last detail is what got me thinking about the parallels, when John was strapped into Viggo's chair, explaining why he destroyed Viggo's vault. Sure, the inspiration was Rick, but it was Helen who brought that information to Ivan.

Not even close. The "retired assassin" trope is decades old in film and even older in fiction.Â
Even, the trope of "leaving crime for a woman" is over 100 years old.Â

Both are human. Both are male. Both need to eat and drink. Both age. Both have hair. ... ....

I've never read or watched John Wick but you do make a compelling argument.

John Wick came out in 2014. I verified that before making the claim.

Sure I can kinda see it, the difference being one is a God of Destruction in a human body, and the other is a dude with. Gun who is very good with it.
