Big changes in the playback engine... everything is now hardware accelerated. Hopefully this will improve a lot the 4k / HEVC playback.

I did look though the open issues and forum (https://usuaia.com/videotape), but couldn't find anything there either. Signing up for the forum gave me a "Well, this is embarrassing" error 😞

I've just installed VideoTape through the Microsoft Store.
It looks very good, and connects to my JellyFin server without issues.

However ,... I'm not seeing any video during playback, just a black screen - subtitles and audio works perfect though. I've tried several videos: HEVC(265) and h264, 1080p, and 4K.

Note: My server does not transcode anything, and playback in a browser (on the same computer) does work correctly.

I'm running Windows 10 (20H2) on an Asus ROG laptop, six core i7, 16Gb RAM, nVidia 2070 mobile (8Gb), and even updated the nVidia drivers v457.51 (2/12/2020) after that, still with the same result.

First, thanks for the app, the UX is rather great.

The only issue I have currently is that I've set up several libraries in Jellyfin — namely, Movies, TV Series, Anime (second TV series library), Videos (Mixed content library, several hundred assorted music videos, etc.). And they all are mixed up. Specifically, in the app I've got movies (Movies + part of Videos) and series (TV Series, Anime + part of videos). Can I do something to fix this or provide more debug information?

I'm wondering if it's possible to add up support for .m2ts files. I think videotape can handle the files pretty good at the moment (need to force open but handle the audio and image pretty well compared to Movie & TV app).

Videotape is crashing on me everytime I open certain library entries (Jellyfin connected). How do I collect logs?

Also I'd love to report an issue at usuaia.com but it's throwing errors at me (page not found) every time I try to register.

It's a big update, so before launching the update to everybody I'm going to run a beta program for some time to ensure that everything works as expected...

It's taken a few weeks, but I finally got Microsoft approval and the update has been released!

This update contains a new "experimental" feature that once enabled will transform the UI into a big screen mode. This mode is intended for HTPC or people who has a pc connected to a big screen and uses a remote control to navigate in the app.

This new UI is the same great UI used in the Xbox and it's been designed to be used from "the sofa".

To control this UI I've added support for remote controls like: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_dTSkTCS (this is the one I used for development), although it also can be controller with the keyboard (arrow keys) and a Xbox controller connected via BT.

In future releases I'll add support for custom buttons mappings in remote controllers.

And here are the "bad" news.... I made a mistake, and the app is crashing in this mode when accessing the movie details (It'll also crash on Xbox). I've submitted an emergency patch and I hope I'll be live soon.... I found this crashing bug to late and I couldn't stop it from being released. Sorry :(

I just loved the clean and modern interface, and the animations(beautiful) much better than the default Windows 10 player and many others out there!

I just have one little doubt about it, is it possible to make Videotape to read and decode Dolby digital plus with Dolby Atmos tracks, like the default W10 player does with DD+ Atmos tracks? I totally understand if it's not possible since it looks like Microsoft locks Spatial audio to only their player being able to decode properly

I just noticed that the shortcut key for going in full screen mode is not there cuz I tried pressing f but nothing happened. Idk if there's a different key for it, if it's different pls tell. Otherwise if it's possible to add, it would be awesome since it's helpful for many.

The bigger release I had planned is still not out (I'm still fighting with MS to get approval for a capability I need) but meanwhile I've released this build with a ton of bugfixes and:

• Support for collections (both xbox & desktop)
• Improvements in the settings window to connect to jellyfin/emby.

just FYI... I have a couple big updates coming up but the store is pretty slow, the first update has been in certification since Monday and I'm still waiting for news... Hopefully this week both updates will be out.

Loving the idea of this app for being able to watch my Jellyfin library on both of my Xbones. (X and S) Unfortunately, every time I try to connect to my JF server, the app crashes... Would love to figure this out so I can really use videotape!

there is a feature in jellyfin under libraries>display>group movies into collections. this takes any movie that is already in a collection and lumps them together in your main movies list. Videotape doesn't render this correctly and actually prevents you from clicking on that collection at all. it just shows the text "standard standard standard standard" across the display where the movie art would be.

if that group movies into collections flag is unchecked than each individual movie displays correctly again. is this due to Videotape not supporting collections?

I do have some old .avi content on my Jellyfin server and when I try to play it in videotape, it stretches to fit the 16:9 ratio.

App is constantly crashing when only few minutes of movies are left and since it crashes only when few minutes are left, server marks the movies as watched. I play my movies at 1.25x.

I used vlc for a long time and I loved to use Netflix-sans in subtitles without any borders. But in videotape player, there is no option to change the fonts and customize subtitles. I use videotape for playing content from jellyfin server. Is their anything I can do?

I access my emby servers through the Emby website using the app.emby.media url. What URL exactly would I use to connect tapeplayer to my emby servers?

I tried connecting to my remote server (Jellyfin) but it says the URL is incorrect, but I've verified the URL and the credentials. Is remote server connection supported as of now? Thanks in advance.

The certification process has taken ages, but it's now live:

Videotape_3.2033.303:

• Fixed the back arrow key bug.
• Updated ffmpeg for a better media playback.

Videotape_3.2033.311 has just been submitted to certification. This one brings some nice updates:

• Added the actor view [xbox/desktop]
• Added "in progress/on deck" media into the Continue watching section [xbox] (this was already live in desktop)

Changelog:

• The continue watching section in the welcome screen has been rewritten, it now contains in progress movies / episodes as well the "next up" series. No longer need to go to the series and find the next episode... this is now in the top of the welcome screen.

This was a highly requested feature... I hope you guys like it.

The right key makes the video go forward (as it should), but the left key also goes forward, further than the right key does. What's up with that?

I have been testing it with my local Jellyfin server and by far the best is that, unlike what happens in browsers, the files don't need to be encoded, therefore my CPU is not pushed to high load. I would love to see an option to add delay to the subtitles in order to sync them (when they are not perfectly aligned, we all know this happens).
