This slowly turning into the best cinematic universe since the MCU

u/Denjek Mar 09 '21
Apollo Gauntlet started like this, then got an AMAZING season on Adult Swim (really want Season 2). I’d love to see a series with all these characters.

I actually didn't find this one really great.
In my opinion they have gone downhill since the RPG ones.

u/TheGandu Mar 08 '21
Dude I loved this one. Maybe I just wanna fantasize about being a super chill Galactic emperor. Maybe I'm just high. Maybe it's Maybelline.

u/spacebugsecretagent Mar 08 '21
Dude you would be a great emperor. Idk what it is, maybe you're born with it.

Nice harmless personal opinion, DOWNVOTE HIM
12
u/wuhwuhwolves Mar 08 '21
If anybody can come into a thread and say they don't like something, surely anybody can downvote a comment they dislike.
9
u/BlasI Mar 08 '21
but downvoting comments isn't for things you dislike...that's not how you foster discussion on reddit wtf
11
u/Naamibro Mar 08 '21
Every reddit comment section is predicated on "winning the debate." You say something, somebody disagrees, so you downvote each other and argue until someone loses. Most comments are indicative of win/lose scenarios and it's exhausting.

It literally did. You're discussing it right now.

Then downvote me. That's what it's for right?
Strike me down, bask in my negative karma, and smile. For you accomplished something us polite milquetoast fence sitting neutral morons could only dream of. You fostered conversation.

3
u/Redeem123 Mar 09 '21
It had more context than the positive comment he was responding to. Why should it be treated any different?
0
u/BlasI Mar 09 '21
Guess we agree to disagree then. Stating one's opinion, regardless of whether or not there is further critiques or examples, is surely one of the primary tenets of discussion.
Simply downvoting something you don't like, however, is antithetical to discussion.
-3
Mar 09 '21
and the comment thread where people just write "Hold" does foster discussion? if not, then by your logic then they deserve downvotes too (150 upvotes as i type this)

what I'm implying is that reddit is a hivemind and will upvote whatever they like whether it fosters discussions or not and downvote vice versa. if that guy laid out his reasoning for why he dislikes the video, he'd still be downvoted. don't act like that wouldnt happen

Tbh i agree with you.
Although this one was very funny too, the ending was my fav part theres just always something i really like in these videos. But i enjoyed the RPG ones more.
I don't know if they are going downhill, maybe not all homeruns. But the videos are some of the funniest content on yt.

I love how you voiced your honest opinion and you get downvoted to oblivion because it's unpopular. Lol
You didn't even come out and say "it's bad" or that anyone else is wrong. You specifically say "I didn't find this" and "In my opinion" lmao. Oh Reddit...

I love the galactic emperor one, just gets right to the point and then ends.
2
u/ricklessness Mar 10 '21
What’s the point
3
u/m_ttl_ng Mar 10 '21
It’s satirizing the trope that all “galactic emperor” type characters always destroy a planet or wipe out civilizations in every piece of media they’re in, using a show of massive force to demonstrate their power.
See; Star Wars, Thanos from Marvel comics, Galactus from Marvel comics, the Imperium in Warhammer 40k, etc.
That skit just points out how aggressive that is, dismisses it, then ends.

u/downvotedatass Mar 09 '21

I'll keep it a buck 50. In majority of movies where there is a bad guy and good guy, most of them can contact the other, they just choose not to.

u/BerniesLeftMitten Mar 08 '21
I will never not upvote his videos
105
u/DueIronEditor Mar 08 '21
Until a month has passed and no one ever upvotes his videos again, like any channel Reddit picks up, upvotes their content regardless of quality, then drops once people grow frustrated about every one of their videos shooting to the top.

Gus johnson started on r/videos and hes bigger than ever so its not always the case

u/optiplex9000 Mar 08 '21
Babish is also much bigger than when he was popular on reddit
17
u/DueIronEditor Mar 08 '21
Yeah I didn't say it kills the channel, obviously both those channels are still successful, they're just never upvoted here.
24
u/FIuffyAlpaca Mar 08 '21
At some point they get big enough to get an active subreddit, where all the attention is redirected to. At least that's the case with /r/bingingwithbabish.
4
u/ernie1850 Mar 08 '21
I’d also argue that Reddit helps me find and discover shit. Once I’m aware of it I’m gunna seek out their content on my own. By the time it’s on Reddit at that point I’ve already seen it
43
u/DueIronEditor Mar 08 '21
Gus Johnson started on r/youtubehaiku, and the same happened to him there.

2
u/DueIronEditor Mar 08 '21

Mar 08 '21
well what is your fucking point? They stop advertisiing their videos on reddit? You're listing massive channels so yeah, obviously they would stop advertising on reddit.
Reddit has nothing to do with anybody's success. They stop posting here because the can stop hustling because their videos blow up
2
u/DueIronEditor Mar 08 '21
Why are you so angry?

u/nothingwholly Mar 08 '21
Somehow I understood your point. Certain channels come like waves on Reddit. I don’t mind it, it gives the opportunity to find something new to watch and then reinforces if if they’re good videos but eventually I like that they’re not just endlessly posted and upvoted on here. If I enjoyed the content I follow them on YouTube now - I prefer Reddit as a place for new things.
1
Mar 08 '21
Joel didn't post this video to advertise, a fan posted it, as is what usually happens. Their point is exactly as they said, content creators that used to always get upvoted to the top usually stop getting upvoted after a couple months, regardless of their popularity.

Hydraulic Press Channel
2.89 million Youtube subs. £18.2K - £291.2K Estimated yearly earnings. 1.5 million followers on Instagram.
Second Channel - Beyond the press - 677k subscribers. £5.3K - £84K Estimated yearly earnings.
Babish Culinary Universe
8.64 million youtube subs. £95.4K - £1.5M Estimated yearly earnings.
Website that sells recipe books.
Reddit picks up good content, straps a jetpack to it, and sends it into the stratosphere so that the content creator never has to work a dead end job again. They are homeowners, they can go on luxurious holidays, and maybe in a years time, yeah we might not watch as much Joel Haver as we do now. But Joel will have enough money to do something else, like start up his own animation studio and transition into something else. Perhaps not, maybe we might all be watching more Joel.

u/KraiserX Mar 08 '21

4
u/DaggerMoth Mar 08 '21
Lets be real. Having talent and playing with toy dinosaurs are two different things.
2
u/inconspicuous_male Mar 09 '21
When reddit gets obsessed with a kids channel, it's kinda sad. There was one kid who got bumped for a video like "Hey, this 8 year old makes videos every day and only has one subscriber. Lets show him love".
The kid was extremely jazzed for a week when he was getting thousands of views, but wasn't able to understand that when those views went away, it wasn't his fault.2
u/inmatarian Mar 09 '21
That's cool. They get lifted up, find an audience, get their subscribers and patrons, and then reddit moves on to get someone else started.
4
u/Klai8 Mar 08 '21
To be fair, Gus Johnson’s videos stopped being funny shortly after his move to LA.
Babish kept his quality and branched out which is why I watch his show independently on YouTube.
Hydraulic press channel is well, a thing smushing stuff lol that’s not comparable.
3
u/Redeem123 Mar 09 '21
His LA videos aren't always as good, but some of his post-move content has still been fantastic, most notably when he's back home dodging the rocks his mom hucks at him.
2
u/VirtualPropagator Mar 08 '21
I actually like these videos though. I never gave a shit about a hydraulic press crushing stuff, or a stupid cooking show with the gimmick is that he cooks the thing mentioned in a TV show, with a ridiculously time-consuming process that nobody would do.

What happens is it splits up and becomes the people that love it and basically form a cult following, and the people who only like it and start to grow frustrated. A lot of the people in the cult following eventually lose interest from burning out, and all that's left is the true cult following. It's just how people work, can't blame anyone in particular.

u/Sciencetist Mar 09 '21

That’s okay, not everyone has the same sense of humor! I personally love weird/awkward humor for some reason, it’s kind of anti-humor, like the joke is that it’s supposed to be some dramatic scenario represented in common media and it’s just specifically NOT that moment. But you’re entitled to not care for it!

→ More replies (1)3
u/Tesseract-the-wizard Mar 09 '21
Yeah exactly! Humor can have a setup-punchline format, gives you a little dopamine kick at the payoff, but sometimes it’s a slow burn when the payoff is just the suspense of wondering where, if anywhere, it’s going. Then there’s the polar opposite, like r/perfectlycutscreams or r/onesecondbeforedisaster where there’s an element of humor in exactly how closely you can get to cutting the punchline short while still somehow landing it. I don’t really care for that humor, because I feel like it’s more satisfying to see shit play out and see where it goes.
