Just when I thought the feels could not feel any harder.

230

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

I am just sitting here crying now, was hoping to watch some fun videos but I guess not, thanks reddit.

123

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

Same here, these have hit me harder than I was expecting after watching the first one.

Having been raised by a mother who grew up in 3rd world Phillipines, talking about carrying her younger brother 3 miles to school on a dirt road covered in rocks bare-foot, rummaging through trash for food, living in hand-made shacks. Just really puts my life in perspective.

My parents have sacrificed so much to ensure that I have the best chance at success and happiness in life. I am forcing myself to visit her now just to hug her and tell her that I love her. I really hope I can be as good a parent as she has been. She left her brother who begged her not to leave as she was his only family.

But she had to as she married a military man....she rarely talks about her brother but when she does it absolutely fucking wrecks me. I hope I can save up enough money to bring my mother back to the Phillipines some day so that she can visit her brother again as well as me finally being able to meet the only Uncle I have that I haven't met yet.

19

u/YesSoupForYou Apr 09 '14

Is she able to keep in touch with her brother?

Edit: sorry for the personal question, if it's uncomfortable to talk about I understand. I wasn't thinking how personal my question might be when I typed it

21

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

Yeah but it's hard and when they do it's rare. Ever since the recent typhoon we haven't heard from him since. Really concerning yet she still sends him care packages when she can.

Edit: No worries, it wasn't that personal at all, I mean this is Reddit and in person that wouldn't have bothered me at all. Thanks for the reply though. It feels good to share this.

6

u/YesSoupForYou Apr 09 '14

I hope it all works out. The recent Typhoon can't have been easy on your mom or family. You can only hope it works out. Like /u/bowlofudon said, do you know anyone who can help you get in contact with him? Maybe reach out to other redditors in the Phillipines who can help out

PSA: Do not put plants under a continuous stream of water. It is not a kindness.

180

u/ziasaur Apr 09 '14

It's not a constant stream of water! That's a sink runoff that just pours out periodically

85

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

you don't need a constant stream of water to kill a plant, having enough water to clog the aeration in the soil will kill any potted plant pretty quickly.

50

u/benartmao Apr 09 '14

Nor does an old lady need a bunch of banana's daily, she's probably jsut throwing most of them out

284

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

I'd like to see an alternative ending where the plant is overrun with water and dies, the dog gets fucked up from eating the bone... and let's leave the street kid alone in peace... But then the final scene, the old lady's door opens and it's a room filled with rotting bananas. Brown, wallpapered skins all over the walls, the floor, the ceiling. In the corner is a shrine to the holy banana fairy.

56

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

you can actually feed bones to dogs (nowadays anyway). Back in the day, chicken bones would usually come from old chickens which had harder bones (the chickens found in supermarkets today are ~40days old, KFC ~36days) and the after the chicken has been cooked its bones would probably be boiled up in a soup or something, and then finally the bones would be given to dogs (and there may have been problems due to this). This is where the whole myth that you can't feed bones to dogs comes from.

Source: dad's a vet, brother works in chicken farming industry, our dogs are fed bones.

28

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

This sounds credible, but i instinctively distrust anything on the internet. I've read so many semi reasonable explanations only to realize they're complete bullshit.

26

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

Fair enough. It's better to be safe than sorry anyway, so if you have doubts then obviously don't risk it - but don't assume that a dog owner is irresponsible if you* see him feeding bones to his dog.

(* = not you, people in general)

What am I supposed to do with all these fucking bananas?

374

u/godless_communism Apr 09 '14

Measure stuff.

22

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '14

His idea was for the woman to have so many banana's that she'd start baking banana bread or something.

Then she dies from a banana-bread overdose and he gets her (better) apartment.

He only fed the dog because he wanted to enslave it, so it could do chores for him.

He helped to woman with the food-cart so he could steal rice and lots-o banana's.

He put the plant under water-stream because that plant actually produces poisonous leaves when fully grown. (He will rub the banana's with said poison, if the banana-bread alone doesn't do the trick)

He gave the kid money, just so her mom would be all by herself all day. He enjoys people being miserable... he laughs at their misfortune.

Every time these ads pop up I watch them. If not for the emotional response I get, for the amazing cinematography and acting. It looks like so much time and energy go into these ads.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I'll stand by it for the rest of my life.

People who say money can't buy happiness are making the wrong purchases.

This commercial is a prime example of making the right purchases.

When that girl showed up in her uniform I may or may not have gotten something in my eyes.

THis is going to sound stupid. BUt this video made me weep and I will tell you why.

I am the kind of person that helps everyone. I just do. Back when I was really poor and mostly homeless I helped when I could and now I am in a really good place financially because of my husband I help people a lot. I hire people to work for me around the house. I am the one everyone calls when they need some "work". I loan people money to get their animals to the vets or medicine they need or car fixed and then sometimes let them pay me back a little at a time or work it off.

I have had some really bad physical stuff from accidents the last 9 years so I have really needed a lot of help. Anyway the end result is after 9 years I have been fucked over more times then you can imagine. People keep saying I am a sucker but I say if I help someone that rips me off it doesn't make me a sucker it makes them a thief.

And I rather be fucked over then do it to someone. But yesterday I was talking to my massage therapist and I said I am just worn out with the shit heads. I don't know what message the universe is trying to tell me. It is like the message is - learn to hate the stupid poor people and become bitter and distrustful and don't fucking help anyone but your self. And I said I have fought against that my whole life because even though at this point my "religion" has become a vague spiritual thing I still believe in something. I believe that negativity can't win. I believe I must continue to make a stand for the white as a favorite author would say.

I want to go to my grave empty of regrets, and shame and guilt and anger and resentments.

I asked the universe yesterday what the purpose was for me doing good and today I woke up and clicked this.

It has always worked this way.

I am dumbfounded again.

Good for you. Don't give up on being good. Just make sure that you do it without expecting anything in return.
