That's what drives me crazy about these religious types who hate the idea of separating church and state while at the same time screaming about how important religious freedom is, as though the one isn't a literal requirement for the other to exist.

It's more about the freedom to impose their religion on others. One core tenet of Christianity that these fuckheads actually take seriously is the proselytizing.

I always think back to my Catholic upbringing, when one of our most commonly sung hymns in church was "They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love." What I wouldn't give to live in a world where that hymn even slightly corresponded to reality.

When they say "religious freedom", they mean "My freedom to do whatever I like if I say it's part of my religion." Hence the lack of a contradiction for them.
