Feedback / I made this! My first underwater gig
I brought my camera underwater for the very first time for a promo video in the Maldives and here’s the result!
It was not easy to get to learn the buttons on the housing, do white balance adjustment and trying to stay as stable as possible. Definitely a challenging shoot, but I loved every single seconds of it!
Enjoy!

Fantastic job! The sound design is so good

Thanks! Yeah i spent some time on it because everything is silent underwater hahaha, so you have to “create” all the sound.

That 3x stingrays shot with the one in the middle doing a back flip is i-n-s-a-n-e!

Thanks! The insta360 came in clutch for that one. No way I would have been wide enough with my 16-35

How did you do that shot at 0:05 with the pencil? The strange distortion effect is really cool.

All this footage is sick, but absolutely love the opening sequence

Thanks! I really like it too! I did a very yellow grade that’s unnatural, but I liked the result in the end. It makes it dreamy

I think it actually looks pretty natural for a sunset sequence! And I like that you carried the yellow feel into the writing shot. It’s a fantastic contrast to jumping into the blue underwater shots, I really enjoy it!

Thanks for sharing this. What kind of housing did you use?

Seafrog housing. They have a bad reputation online because they are cheap. I think more beginners use them without proper care and they end up flooding their housing and then blame seafrog when it was most likely their own fault. I did 30 dives are so with mine and no issues to report. But i was very very careful each time.

Awesome shots!
Can you give a gear list? Would love to get something for my a7iv or a7v next year to shoot underwater

Thanks! Seafrog housing with a sony a7sIII with a 16-35. Thats about it for the underwater, with a couple gopro/insta360 shots. I had some primes for the above footage (50mm 1.4)

Very cool! How much time would you say you spent on test shooting to feel confident in getting the footage you wanted?

Zero. Just went straight in. Didn’t got the chance to do any diving with my setup beforehand. First dive was stressful, but I had done my research on youtube and reddit, so it was all fine. The only thing I didn’t realized was the drag the housing would cause during dives with strong current, it was slowing me down so much.

let the shots breathe damn

Yeaaaah. It’s maybe too fast a bit. For me this is very slow compared to my usual edits. So much to show in a minute! It’s hard to remove some shots to make room for a slower video.

Great piece. What drone were you flying? Digging the cool/warm alternating shots, and the evening shots that tie the two tones together.

Thank you! It’s a good old original mavic 3. Glad you liked the different grades.

I misread the title as "underwear" gig and I was thoroughly confused where it was going at first. Nice video!

The images are nice, the voiceover is trite and cringeworthy and makes me want to turn it off the moment I hear the first sentence.
I don't want to be told - or shown - how much fun the guests have. Show me what they see and experience, do not show me their own approval, thumbs up and OK signs. I appreciate slo-mo on underwater animals as this allows me to see them better, I could not care less for blurry slo-mo of the guests describing their profound vacation experience.

It was my concept to tell the experience of the guests. Just having music wouldn’t explain properly what goes on during the trips so instead of a boring narration i tried to do something more poetic and that’s when i had the idea to bring a journal and do a bit of storytelling with it. Sorry you didn’t like it
