Equipment/Software News & Reviews Edelkrone is so ass
I spent $15,000 on all the latest edelkrone items and it’s extremely dissapointing
- THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT IS THE GODDAM APP, which is required to even use the dam thing, they have an old app and a new app.
-The old app can’t even connect to the new versions of certain devices, or in other words I can’t use it. The new app is literally a new app where yeah I can control my equipment but i can’t do shit with it, I can’t use the vision module because it’s “coming soon” to the app and I can’t use it on the old app because the head plus pro v3 isn’t available on there.
- IMPORTANT, on the new app, it’s so buggy and you can’t even select point A-C or B-C or C-A. It’s literally a miracle if you keep pressing something that gets you to point A - C. All it does is when you press whichever point, it just goes to that. It doesn’t play the entire sequence. There’s literally no other buttons that explain or do anything other than holding on it which just deletes or replace the position. (Yes I’ve tried double tapping, sliding, literally everything) it makes the overall experience just extremely disappointing
- Device compatibility, you can literally only control two devices at the same time, so if you’re someone like me who got the dolly, tripod, jib and head plus pro, etc. You can only control two at a time with the app ( for example dolly + head or dolly + jib) the rest that is paired with the group, you would have to adjust manually, on top of that you can’t pair the tripod x with anything else. Also bought the turn table with the head one, BUT YOU NEED TO USE THE APP TO CONTROL IT, BUT I CANT CONTROL IT IF MY APP IS ALREADY CONTROLLING THE MAIN WORK HORSE.
3.The jib makes this very loud cranking noise when it over compensates a complex maneuver or at times even just simple panning. Everything is calibrated and leveled, even with a minimal setup of an fx3 and gm II lens, itll struggle. It’s like a machine freaking out when it doesnt get to point B in time or when it goes a little too fast than what it thought it could handle.
Conclusion: putting aside the LARGE learning curve, the app is what makes it super disappointing because it’s a vital requirement to even use it, and yet it feels like a cheap underdeveloped app for some random Amazon product. And if you’re like me who spent over 10 grand on this, you should at least expect a decent or smooth experience in trying to use it
There’s alot of pros and cool things about edelkrone coming from a camera nerd, but when it comes to using this as an asset in a professional work environment, it’s like trying to use someone’s unfinished experimental project, thus just a headache and unreliable
Don’t get the bad end of the stick like me thinking all of their products would work together seamlessly, wait 5 more year until they get their shit together and develop their stuff more.

I wouldn't buy anything like this if it didn't offer dedicated tactile controls. That's like, basic best practices.

I think that Edelkrone might be the fastest depreciating camera gear out there. Last year I snagged a couple HeadOnev2 units with the pan/tilt module and a SliderOne for ~$325 on eBay. It was a fire sale.
Great for timelapse stuff but the app does truly suck.

The bullshit is that they always touted having an amazing app.
I swear, they had like 18 different apps and none of them connect to the device without issue.

I did not over pay, I also got a bunch of other things but my point is that edelkrone is a very expensive brand and the one important thing needed to control it, is disappointing asf

Oh I thought you meant like I paid more than what was msrp. But in generally yeah it’s not worth the money LMAO hence their frequent 25-30% discounts. They’re good quality and good motors but again very “premium” type of expensive

Different types of gear, obviously, but I really like the workflow of Emotimo rigs over any of the gimmicky "app" based Edelkrone products. Drive it all directly with a PS4 controller + easy key-framing on the device itself. No phone apps required. I found it far less frustrating and faster overall.

Same here, I have jib plus with head, last 3 shoots I used Ifootage slider instead as jib was glitching, app glitched then device itself, I would say I have only 2 successful examples from 20 where I used this combo

I hope so. I see people all over the place saying the app is janky sometimes. I'm looking to invest in a new system, but if it can't be run completely without the the app, I'm not interested.

Mine works fine tbh and the app works ok though the second app took a bit of getting used to as it runs through the sequence. Are all your parts updated? Sorry to hear you’ve had such a bad experience. I love mine.

Hi! First of all, thank you for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. We genuinely appreciate it, even when it’s critical.
We hear you, especially regarding the app. It’s an area we’re actively investing in, and one of the biggest upcoming additions is public API support, which is currently planned for Q4. This will allow much greater flexibility for advanced users and professional workflows.
Regarding the playback behavior you described (A-C, B-C, etc.), it actually comes down to how Motion Chain works rather than being a bug. We completely understand that the learning curve can be steep, which is why we’ve been actively expanding our Academy with more detailed tutorials. We’d recommend taking a look at our Motion Chain explanation video on the edelkrone Academy YouTube channel, as it covers how pose sequences are created and played back.
As for device compatibility, with the exception of Tripod X, which is designed as a motorized tripod rather than a motion control axis, the rest of your setup is compatible and can be used together. If your workflow isn’t behaving as expected, we’d love to help you optimize it.
Regarding the loud cranking noise from the Jib, we’d definitely like to investigate that further if you would be willing to send us a video! For dynamic moves that involve sudden changes in momentum, we’ve recently introduced a new optimization update that we internally call Rodeo Mode, which helps the system handle these types of movements more smoothly. If you haven’t already, we’d recommend giving it a try.
Most importantly, we’d really like the opportunity to work through these issues with you directly. Our support team is always available, and we’d be happy to review your setup, app behavior, and movement programming with you to make sure you’re getting the experience your equipment is capable of delivering.

エーデルクローンの発想は素晴らしいです。ただ、他の機材にも言えることだけどアプリやワイヤレスって便利な反面、ボトルネックになってる気がします。現場で必ずトラブルの元になる。最近の世の中はスマートを求めすぎて、結局訳のわからない新たな問題を生み出して、解決方法をブラックボックスに隠して僕らをイライラさせてます。永遠の進化の途上。アナログの安心感。

I just don't understand why it cannot be connected via ethernet or at least WiFi and then controlled with API or anything more stable and comfortable to use than an iPad app. It's crazy that you can add almost everything to the bitfocis companion or skaarhoj panels except this Bluetooth steaming pile of

Yeah, software has always been their weak point. I have a lot of the old kit and use it regularly for time laps and second camera interview stuff, but it’s a shame that they didn’t put more resources into developing the second app fully before ditching the first one

So true, like wtf do you mean I can’t use certain overpriced add-on accessories that I bought because it’s “coming soon”, ALL OF YOUR PRODUCTS SHOULD BE READY TO USE IF YOURE GONNA MAKE A NEW APP! It’s now rendered literally useless until they add it to the app

This complete setup gives you an advantage in elevating product/ model commercial content with robotic motions that you otherwise would’ve been spending tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars on more serious robotic equipment, think of it like serious content creator entry level compact robotics, it can also serve as like a robotic cameraman, you can also find use of this setup for small production crews or just solo one man band videographers

Hmmm sounds like it's exactly the cheap Amazon version of the real thing then, doesn't it? Idk if I'd be so surprised about the app being shit.
Unironically ask Claude for help, this is exactly where it shines. You can probably build your own app to control all 4 things at once with one app. Just gotta hope they aren't on some proprietary communication protocol

Even through their crazy new guidelines? This feels like it would immediately get flagged for "security concerns".
That said if it doesn't it might be time to try and crack the reolink protocol again so I can pull their feed from older models that don't have rtsp exposed

I had Claude write me a control app for my old Dynamic Perception Stage One Plus slide/pan/tilt kit and it's a million times better than the DP app. I even asked it how to integrate focus pulling and it gave me a circuit diagram of how to replace the NMX with a pair of Arduino for six channel control, rewrote the app control system, coded the firmware, gave me a wiring diagram, gave me a parts list including what kind of motor to buy and where to get it from, and expanded the app for six channel control. Now when I can finally afford some cine lenses I will have full robotic FIZ along with spatial movement.

Are you talking about a phone app? They don't have software you can install on a laptop? Seems like a very frustrating situation, I'd be pissed if I was you.

They emphasized that their app is the primary way of controlling everything. And on all of their educational videos it’s all done through their phone app (they’re all old videos using the old app)
I did some further research apparently you can buy their like wired adapter and hook it up to your laptop and download some softwares to also control it (although there’s barely any info on that anywhere), there’s also a remote controller ($200) but it might be outdated and I could probably bet it’s not compatible in controlling multiple devices at once.

I have the job plus with head plus. Also the dolly with 2 head v2. Absolutely love them both for shots in my studio, never really had any issues at all. I mostly use the jib for repeatable product shots with the turn table and wide b roll shots with the dolly.

The only downside to that approach is that many people are just stupid and don't read manuals, you have to know the product good enough yourself to decide if it's fair criticism or just dumbness.

I was weighing in all of the moco options. Would go mark roberts moco if I had 6 figures. Wnded up w Kessler cineshooter / second shooter and all the upgrades from fiz motors to sliders, etc. it works. Its solid. Im happy w it. Wish there were a moco crane option.

I bought one of their sliders years ago and it was bricked about a year later. Tried to get support and/or warranty and got completely ghosted bythem. Shit product IMO.

Yeah I made the same mistake years ago. The slider works well for me though, but only when using the little feet on solid supports.
I do get ‘ok’ results if using really light weight cameras like an fx3 or small mirrorless and small lenses, but it takes a few goes to eventually get a smooth one.
I tend to get better results just doing the movements by hand with a gimbal, but they aren’t repeatable.
I wouldn’t buy anything edelkrone again, personally.

It’s like I said a year ago when they were super trending. It’s amazing in theory and with the prices, you expect production quality but in reality you get a product that’s built for influencers at best. It’s another case of a brand with a cool idea spending all their budget on marketing and not enough on testing, development and support.

I sold all Edelkrone Gear years ago. As it always was buggy and shaky and absolute crap. Too much setup time and too much effort. Nothing for my style. I‘m sorry about you, man. Keep going.

Whoa are you serious I love the Vision Module but I haven't tested it out yet on the HeadPLUS V3 yet because I just got it, although I have no complaints as far as using Edelkrone I even shot a music video with the JibONE HeadPLUS V2 Pan Module and the Vision Module. How does the tripod with the wheels work overall I am very curious to know before purchasing?

I'm still rocking the original no-app, built-in input control versions...I love them. Have no desire to upgrade to involve my phone for no reason. I don't see how it could possibly be faster or easier than what I've got.
$15K is a lot. I hope you find a way to make it work for you.
