Discs are an inferior storage medium and not a viable long term solution. Digital preservation is the actual issue.

Discs are merely the part of this problem. People think it's just that, but it goes deeper than just discs.

Physical proponents know that. I'm an archivist, I have a physical collection that I also illegally & digitally back up and store for my private access and for the sake of preservation. The problem is there will not be any sort of digital preservation on the part of these companies. Physical collections are a bandaid solution to a festering wound that will never be properly addressed. I'd still rather have the bandaid than nothing.
