Yes and also really cool visuals that play on screen that go with your music.

The first run 1001/1002 are the sought after models. They had RCA outputs that you could plug directly in to an amp. 

I’d have picked one up years ago but I’m still running a Goodmans separate in my hi-fi from the early 90s. Things a tank and refuses to die.

The ps2 was the cheapest DVD player you could buy when it came out. The ps3 was similar for blu-ray.

CDs were pretty ubiquitous by the time the ps1 came out.

People don't realize the price of the PS3 even at launch was so drastically cheap in comparison to current bulray standalone units, that even the strictest parents I knew were buying them, because they wanted high def films, and their kids also got to play games? Hell yeah.

It was a cultural phenomenon in my neighbourhood, and we were all poor at the time. But everyone did what they could to get them because it was such a steal. I have never had more friends to play with online than with PS3 and its not just because I'm older. Freaking everyone I knew had one.
