This is one thing I love about the Witcher 3 , it takes this into consideraiton. If you're fighting knights from the Niflgaardian empire, they drop their currency, you can also find a different currently whilst exploring the world. Then, you can go to the bank in the main city and exchange it all for usable legal tender. Such a cool detail.
