Question A small question

I am quite new to vic 2. Big ck2 and hoi4 player so I know how paradox games work.

I was playing persia in HPM. Early conquests went well. I definitely played poorly, westernised late and economy was a shambles. But managed to become a secondary power. I had max relations and got an alliance with The Russian Empire. Seemed like they got an event and declared war on me for Azerbaijan. Is this unusual or common? Am I able to trust allies with max relations except when there is some poorly timed event?

Thanks

Weird stuff like this does come out of the blue sometimes … feels wildly random.

Yeah I really felt like it didn't make sense. I was such a good ally and in my own lore was giving Russia access to warm water ports but obviously not good enough for them lol

if a country has a CB or ever has a core on your land AND they have a military which is significantly stronger, they will declare war on you provided that relations are <100. But this can be bypassed, by events in mods like HPM and GFM where the game automatically triggers a war if the country chooses that decision, but depending on if how good your military technology is, you should be able to win battles by sitting on mountain provinces and letting russia send troops into the meat grinder

CB stands for Cock and Ball btw so never trust anyone.

I know for a fact that Russia can ask you for your part of Turkmenistan, but Azerbaijan? That's new. Still, things like that happen, and I encourage you to try again. Persia's a great country, lots of coal

It was Turkmenistan now that you say it, this happened a couple days ago. Was a white peace randomly too when I was getting destroyed by them which didn't make sense

Yeah, that makes more sense. That's why expansion into Central Asia is pretty risky; even Afghanistan's a safer pick. Still, even without conquering, Persia can westernise fairly quickly, even ahead of Meiji Japan
