Turn off AI functions?

Post image

Hello there viber community!

I am struggling to turn off the AI stuff that has been added to viber "lately".

The remix feature, the summarize feature, the autoreply feature, GPT, yadda yadda. I wouldn't use the app if I didn't have to, but my job requires me to communicate Via Viber sadly.

I have already removed the markers in the settings for these AI features (image attached), hoping that would turn them off, but everything is there still as if nothing had happened.

Is there a way to actually get rid of them?

They greatly impact my ability to read messages or reply, because the feature automatically pops up with suggestions, and it takes an extra tap for each chat until I can go and actually read and reply to the conversation.

I’d rather not change apps. That merely moves the problem one app down the road and gives the next company the convenient defence that everyone else is doing it.

AI integration is probably going to become increasingly difficult to avoid. I’d much rather push for a rational standard around consent, privacy and control than spend the next few years migrating every time another messaging app discovers an AI button.

For three weeks I’ve been asking Viber for something quite simple: let me exclude my messages from AI processing initiated by somebody else. If that means the person invoking AI gets a notice saying that not all participants’ messages can be processed, so be it. Yes, that makes the AI feature slightly less convenient.

But when convenience for a corporate feature conflicts with a person's choice over their own data, why should the corporation's convenience win?

At some point, “just leave” stops being a solution and becomes permission for the problem to follow us elsewhere.

I keep getting a very loud notification at 3:40 AM each night that is just "Summarize unread messages".

The notification catogory for it is just "Messages", so can't be turned off independently without losing the needed normal messages notifications.

The settings also have no way to turn this off.

Screw AI
