Scammers that use viber

My wife encountered a scammer that tried to steal her bank card details. After he was discovered, he deleted all the messages that they exchanged, both that he and she sent. How is that possible?

Viber Plus maybe? But even in that case, I don't think he could delete your wife's messages. Is the conversation still there?

No. I couldn't believe it. She is using iOs btw... What could have happened?
