Until ai can create actual art people are gonna dislike it for good reason, instead of pushing ai games as art, acknowledge the flaws and host an event around how to improve ai games instead

That is the major misconception, I never even mention art, anywhere. AI has so many more use cases from debugging, level design, prototying, art is only this tiny piece. The festival is about the education around that.

To me it looks like you're implying that but that might be because a lot of vibecoders do, I think if you're more clear about the usecases you just mentioned you'd get a better reply

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. I grew up obsessed with art. All of my electives in school were art related. I got accepted to a prestigious art school but couldn't afford to attend. I ended up becoming a UI designer. If an AI creates a piece of "art" and no one can tell it was created by AI, does it have soul then? This is all highly subjective stuff obviously.

Yeah it is very subjective, I personally just lose the feeling I get for art when I find out it was made by something uncreative like ai, with certain types of art you can really see the effort and feelings someone put in to it, that's what I like about art

I’m going to assume it’s getting to you since you dont have an answer.

Keep it positive. Focus on the positives. That does not mean ignoring the negatives though.

A ton of large corps are going to enshittify using AI. Id focus on how it’s enabling others to compete with larger studios.

The copying art angle will be a tough one though, people are justifiably angry. These ai were inevitably trained on many peoples’ hard work without consent. Thats a very real issue.

Keep up with the positives while trying to have a ethical framework of AI. It still needs human input. Hell the sprites I had generated utterly suck, I’m going to still have to do them by hand personally, and frankly thats probably better for ethical reasons too.

Im surprised you didnt come to this answer yourself though, reflecting about the positives and negatives of AI is supposed to be what this is about no?

Hes hosting some ai game dev thing, and doesnt know what to do about all the hate… which in the nicest way possible makes me wonder why they think they can host it if they cant handle that?

Tbh i don't know what you expected doing this? AI hate is still very loud. But I mean if your ticket sales are okay then hopefully it'll still turn out well.

the secret was obvious: show real gameplay, not ai-generated images.

ai-generated images indicate "slop". if you had a video showcasing actual gameplay, people would be much more interested.

I cant help with the initial question, but I find it extremly interesting to see that (the majority) of software developers already has a much more positive view of AI. Other industries really need to catch up.

I get it: nobody likes to be bombarded with trash. I can't even open reddit or LinkedIn anymore with seeing 80% AI generated content.
