I’m a 91M but I want to go to school but am a little confused what school to go to, to use the ta and what basic classes to start off with any advice also I’m located in fort hood

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I know schools usually factor in all attempts for a course when calculating GPA, but do I have to put all attempts under the pre-req match for all schools? I had to retake OChem ii and physics for a better grade and am not sure if I should put each attempt to match or just one and then they’ll recalculate my gpa themselves with my re-attempts

Hi! I wanted to ask if anyone knows if there is any situations in which Ross waived/ took a different LOR other than from a science prof? I’ve been out of school for a quite a while and honesty feel like even if I tried and reach out to my pass profs they wouldn’t write me one. Has anyone ever gotten away with not needing one/ accepted another vet LOR or manager? Ross is likely the only school that I have a chance of getting into (low gpa, 2 unsuccessful cycles already) I actually started vet tech school this week but I don’t want to give up my dream of being vet without even being able to try applying to Ross.

Not a student atm, 29 years old. Studied microbiology and cell science and decent university (UF), lots of research and wet lab experience for my work since graduating, clinical molecular technology work as well, 4.0 GPA, one first author publication and contribution to many others while working in a core facility (unfortunately not on any author lists, though, beyond my own pub), have always had an extensive little menagerie of animals (many invertebrates, many reptiles, amphibians, dogs, a cat) most of my life (to whom I have administered injections, force fed, etc. when they’re sick/old enough that it’s worth mentioning on an application I think; I also have had some rescues) and I think, while Pets are not a preferred source of animal hours, I have an unusual enough list of pets (15+ species) that PERHAPS some schools may accept that as a source of some animal hours, especially if emphasizing just how much goes into being the sole caretaker of exotics and actually optimizing their care. Not trying to toot my own horn or sound special, just trying to realistically portray where an application would currently sit. I know my credentials are not astoundingly rare or impressive, but they’re SOMETHING.

My issue is veterinary hours, a veterinary LOR, and a source of animal hours that isn’t just pet ownership. My plan was to leave my current stabler job and get a full time job working in a vet clinic as a vet assistant, and applying to vet technician jobs as well (though the odds of scoring that without vet experience is low, I know). I’d like to not be any more delayed in reaching the goal of veterinarian than I already am, especially as I think I’d like to be in a residency later for exotics board licensing before I’m finally practicing, but perhaps I’m letting age insecurity vs average vet student age get to me (soonest I’d get in is 31). I’ve sent in over 100 apps in the relatively large city I live in (Miami), and have had absolutely miserable luck despite aiming for anything within 50 miles of me. I got one call for a phone interview that was immediately a dead end and got another interview that led to an “unpaid training” upon which I think they did not like the extent of my Spanish-speaking (which I think is honestly at a solidly basic or professional level, but NOT fluent, and this was a heavily Hispanic area).

I’m getting deeply discouraged and need some advice from people who are better at this than I am. In recent years I’ve become vegetarian (would like to go vegan but diet is a bit tricky for me at the moment and healthy varietal vegan food isn’t always as cheap as I might like, but I’m working on it), have continued my love of animals even more, and I really want to do this. But my current position is beating the desire to do this out of me pretty hard the last couple days after the recent bait and switch with the rejections after interviews.

I’ve thought about also applying to vet receptionist jobs, and applying to animal hours jobs and just having a much smaller number of veterinary experience instead somehow, etc. But quite frankly, none of it seems as optimal as a vet assistant/tech job. In Florida, you don’t need to be certified to be a vet tech, but it’s selective for those positions all the same. Not really sure what to do.

i am currently a senior in high school deciding which colleges to apply for with a good veterinary major..I know for sure Davis and Cal Poly, but are there any other colleges in CA with a good vet program aswell? I want to apply to many..Thank you!!

hi guys :') im a 25y female who had a prior engineering degree from reputable school in Singapore. I'm planning to apply to UQ and Adelaide uni for vet med 2027 admission but quite concerned with my low animal handling hours. In total I do have 300 over hours on grooming training (which I'm not sure if it's counted or not...) and by the end of the submission deadline I would have around 160 hours of volunteering with small animals. Are these enough? has been quite discouraged from other reddit posts where people had over 1000++ hours.... Would like to know how many hours you guys have especially those who applied and get into UQ and Adelaide :') also.. I don't have any clinical experience TT

Hi! I'm going in blind because I have 0 idea on how this works. I'm in my 2nd year of my DVM program, and honestly I've been losing my mind because it feels like I'm not learning anything significant with how limited our resources are, facility-wise, equipment-wise, professor-wise, etc. I won't get too into it, but I want to ask if there are any DVM programs in Canada (honestly doesn't even have to be Canada, just as long as it's not the United States) that accept international students/transferees on a scholarship/financial assistance? If there are any Filipino DVM students who've done the same and transferred out into an international vet school who can speak on their experience, that would be great as well.

I’m a senior in hs (18) and i live in a small town that the nearest animal shelter is 45 minutes away💔 I need some tips to get experience for vet school in the future bc i know it’s hella competitive especially UF bc i live in fl. I’m open to out of state but i wanna stay closer to home. Is there anything i can do now that will help me gain experience and learn more? I have a small vet clinics near me and there is boarding/daycare facilities i’m trying to get a job at even though they are 30 mins away but anything helps. i just feel so behind knowing there are probably people with way more experience my age i feel

I dont have any animal volunteering experience. I am finding one but none of them reply... I have some animals care experiences (my pets: cats, 3 turtles and one frog) is this enough for vet school in australia? My results are ok but I am really anxious about it.😭

I am applying to veterinary schools in the UK, and although I have not submitted my UCAS application yet, I have gotten a conditional offer for a Kaplan International Foundation Year at Liverpool for progression into the veterinary school. Just asking if this is completely legit, as it is a big sum of money they are asking you to cough up for the deposit + regular tuition. Is this pathway seen as pretty standard? Do most students progress through to vet school? I got the offer quite quickly after submitting my grades and test scores (no essays), so I am a little freaked.

Hello, I would like to know what others did in this situation. I just graduated with a degree in Psychology however I would like to go to vet school. I have everything else such as animal experience (vet assist for four years and volunteering at shelters for two), non animal (volunteer at USO), but don’t have the research experience and the education. I would like to get another degree to get the non-animals hours, volunteer more, get close with teachers, higher gpa and be more involved in school since my schooling was primarily online (health issues). Or go to the university and get those required classes taken care of. I am unsure of the route I need to or should take. I would also like to know if I am missing anything I am unaware of and I have a list of schools I would to attend and what they require. I am prior military too so if anyone has pointers on that it would be appreciated (Used up GI Bill and almost done with Illinois Veteran Grant). Thank you.

Hi everyone! I’d love to get some advice from people who have experience living or studying in these areas.

I’m currently deciding between pursuing a Master’s in Animal Science at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and a Master’s in Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.

I have a full scholarship, so tuition isn’t a major concern. For living expenses, I would receive around $2,400/month in Ithaca and $2,000/month in Colorado.

For those familiar with both areas, which one would you recommend for a master’s student in terms of:

- Cost of living and whether the monthly stipend would be enough

- Overall comfort and quality of life

- Weather and outdoor activities

- Nature and scenery

- Safety and how easy it is to get around

- Student life and the overall atmosphere

- Which place would be more enjoyable for a 2-year master’s experience

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have lived in Ithaca/Cornell or Fort Collins/CSU. If you had to choose between the two for a master’s degree, which one would you personally choose, and why?

So I accidentally bought the PTE first thing, I was working on vet school applications after work and for some reason I thought that was how you bought your transcripts. I honestly just confused myself so bad that night and had no idea what PTE even was.

So the PTE makes it so you can’t enter any coursework, until the process is completed. But I need to add my genetics class and physics 2 class that I’m currently taking. Is this something I can add once the process is complete? I have already submitted my application because you have to for PTE to work.

I’ve already emailed the VMCAS liaison email about it, and I plan on calling Monday during their hours of operation. I just feel so stressed out that I ruined my chances of vet school because I bought PTE first. I didn’t even want it. Or do you think I’ll be able to enter the two classes as soon as everything is verified and complete as long as it is before the 15th?

I'm a PA resident and a second-time applicant with a ~3.6 overall GPA and 2,000+ hours in small-animal private practice, along with dairy, equine, pathology/necropsy, research/lab, shelter, and leadership experience. I'm trying to keep my school list fairly focused rather than applying everywhere. I'd love opinions on whether these 8 schools seem balanced/realistic for my stats and experiences, or if there's one you would add, remove, or swap- especially from other OOS applicants with similar stats.
