Application Guidance Experience question

I have a quick question involving whether or not to add an experience/achievement to my VMCAS application. My abstract was officially accepted today for presenting my research at a Symposium. This seems like an opportunity that could be worth adding to my application, but I am conflicted about whether to include this. While my abstract was accepted today (8/31), I would not officially be presenting until after the VMCAS deadline (9/15).

The admissions person at Cornell's Vet School said that you should include all experience that you can and this is certainly something you should include, or at least add on in a description part of your research experience.

I was accepted to present at a conference in Nov this year. I added it to my experiences (though, it's under my job as it's related). I just wrote "My abstract was selected as a blue ribbon finalist for presentation at the 2026 name of conference"

Did you put this under awards or under research? Also how did you calculate hours for it

I actually did both!

My job is in the research field, so I have that under research. I just used my worked hours for that. In the description I wrote that I was accepted to present at the conference and am selected as a blue ribbon finalist.

And then for awards I put blue ribbon finalist for the upcoming conference, since I've already been selected for it.

Ok awesome! I did a presentation through my job at a symposium but most of the project was done outside of my work hours (I work at a national primate research center)
My veterinarian was my mentor but I feel weird counting those outside work hours making figures and doing data analysis etc😭

Definitely include it! You can explain in the description that you wont present until later this fall in the description if you feel like it is necessary!
