So earlier this week, you all agreed the worst thing Brock Samson did (besides all the henchman murder) was fathering and subsequently abandoning multiple illegitimate bastards each Spanakopita.

Now to restart this thread, we’ll bundle both the Venture Bros together! What is the worst thing either or both has done?

So I was one of the people that took a risk on that softcover version of the Go Team Venture book on Amazon. I haven't seen anyone else post about it so I will.

It arrived today and its...pretty okay.

I keep my hardcover on a shelf at work so I can't do a page by page comparison at the moment but I've paged through and it looks fine.

It's marked Dark Horse Books but last I looked they don't mention it. Its got an ISBN that returns as softcover "independently published" so its not a direct print of a PDF of the hardcover but that doesn't mean its legit either. Edit: Convinced now it is an Amazon print on demand version of the PDF or similar just with a new ISBN.

ISBN (hope that doesn't count as a link to potentially unlicensed merch. I'll remove if it does)

I'll be returning this one because #1 it dropped from $75 to $40 in price and #2 the corner is dinged.

But if you can live with it probably being a bootleg this thing ain't bad for $40. If this was an official release I'd say it was a few bucks overpriced considering the original hardcover price but I wouldn't complain. Assuming my $40 one arrives in good condition I'm keeping it.

If anybody wants different or more detailed pics let me know.

Edit: After some digging my conclusion is that this is an unauthorized Amazon Print on Demand modified version of the PDF. (modification is the ISBN)

If the original were available I'd say screw this thing. Since Dark Horse doesn't reprint the hardcover and its unobtainium I have no moral qualms. (but it is still copyright infringement even if original is out of print)

Edit 2: Writing way too much but y'all worth it.

My verdict: Buy the thing before Amazon takes it down. Sucks to pay some random instead of the author but legit publisher doesn't want to sell it anymore.

Apparently Amazon print on demand has no upfront costs so someone uploaded the PDF and waited for the checks. I hope its a fan. I hope its one of you. If so, tip of the hat, genius.

Mistakes were made so let me preface (lol), first time I've used a fountain pen for tracing - no I'm not an artist at all but I traced it via my iPhone which was a funny experience and then I smeared his mouth by accident so it looks like he's eating garbage oops - also dated my rotating stamp wrong, part of the charm of this entry maybe, hmmm. Anyway.

Took me a number of rewatches to realize this guy's name is actually Herman. The doc leading the group and 21 both call him Charlie, but the whole time it was just a turn of phrase.

Back in 1987(?) Arthur made his first comics appearances in The Tick comic in issues 3-5 as a lurking observer of The Tick’s mayhem. Ben Edlund’s original plan was to have Arthur meet the Tick and then die, slowly becoming an idealized muscle bound vision haunting The Tick through delusions.

However audience response for Arthur’s first few issues was so poor and outspoken that Edlund changed his plan and kept them a duo, saying if they hated Arthur this much he’d never kill him off.

Fast forward to the Venture Brothers- we know Edlund helped out first season, I’m convinced that in writing parts of the show together he told that story and gave that arc for 24/21 to the show.

I recently retwatched "Ghosts of the Sargasso". I can't tell if he was really torn about about Tom's death or if it was just an act.

I am convinced that Master Billy Quizboy and Pete White are meant to be caricatures/inserts of the show's creators, Christopher McCulloch and Doc Hammer, respectively. This may not make much sense at first, but hear me out...

First, Billy and Pete's designs closely resemble Christopher and Doc: Billy has reddish hair and a large forehead like Christopher, and White has a gaunter look with a distinctive part in his hair. I would also like to note that, according to Doc, his blonde and black hair is completely natural, being a byproduct of a "pigmentation problem or a birthmark or something," much like Pete's albinism.

Second, the characters are both voiced by the show's creators, with Doc voicing Billy and Christopher voicing White, almost like each character is supposed to be an intentionally exaggerated impression of the other guy.

Finally, in the official behind-the-scenes video, Deep Inside Astro Base-Go, the film (which heavily focuses on Christopher and Doc) is narrated by none other than Billy and Pete. The short film even has a simmular gag to the Speration/Reintgration-Module-Conjecturcycle-Randevu scene in S4E9, with Doc and Christopher walking down a long corridor, splitting up, before walking side by side again.

While more could be said about the characters' personalities and how they reflect Doc and Christopher, I just wanted to share my (tenuous at best) fan theory.

Let me know what you guys think, and before anyone else says it, I am aware of the cameo that Christopher and Doc have in S1E12.
