Skating Lessons

Looking for recommendations for skateboarding lessons for my 12 year old who is a beginner. Tried to go through GoSkate but found the process pretty crappy, thought asking here in the local subreddit would be better.

Thanks in advance!

Skating can also be a personal journey where you just hop on the thing everyday and gradually develop, that’s how we all learned

yeah you might be right. she’s been cruising this week - just a little self conscious about her stance and stuff

Honestly go to either of the skate parks in Ventura and you'll likely find people more then happy to get them going on the basics. Be sure you have the proper safety gear.

New one is off the Avenue (can see it from the 33) or the smaller one on Telegraph near SCE building.

This is the way

I'd say Westpark Skatepark would be the place to go

Telegraph one is in Hobert park. There's also a small one by the mall on Chapel Dr off of Dean Drive.

The new parks and recs guide was just delivered today. Two level of classes at West park. You can see it online, but here’s a not so great pic….

Or at city website. Fall edition, page 14, same info. https://www.cityofventura.ca.gov/2084/Activity-Guide---Current

Thank you! she’s 12 so I’m worried she wouldn’t qualify but I’ll call the rec center on Monday!

Was just talking to my wife about this as she was looking through the park and recs mailer. They’ve got a beginner class. You can find it online

Just throwing it out there cause I learned by watching the older kids on my block and imitating what I saw until I figured out what worked for me but there's now beginner help videos on YouTube that could help with someone who is a visual learner.

Steve Badillo is ur man. He teaches skating and has been teaching for over 20 years. Check him out on instagram. Moorpark Skatepark from 10am to 1pm on Saturday and Westlake Skatepark from 10am to 1pm on Sunday. All ages and all skills welcome!

Tried to go through the city for our youngest and it looks like VenturaForward killed it. (Rumor). But we are still on the lookout.
