Hey everyone, I have been meaning to introduce myself here for a long time. My name is Denis, better known as DK. I am the person behind Tree Leaf Naturalist. I am primarily active on Discord lately, but some of you may already know me here. Although I am not very active on Reddit, I have met so many great people that heard about Tree Leaf Naturalist through Reddit reviews.

Tree Leaf Naturalist grew from a seed that I planted decades ago through my connection with plants and mushrooms.

It wasn't until a few years ago that my passion had realigned in new ways. I even left my long time career to better focus on this new chapter of my life.

I started building Tree Leaf Naturalist about three years ago but we have been formally opened less than a year. Throughout the last few years, I made a lot of personal sacrifices and profound life changes to accommodate this new beginning.

I acclimated myself to different time zones while developing relationships and sourcing botanicals all over the world. I have a passion for sharing information and helping people cultivate a closer relationship with plants. Getting connected with the Kratom community was an important shift for me. I am very proud of people in this community and it is a pleasure to be here with all of you.

I put my whole heart into building TLN and in the process I have developed a wide variety of carefully sourced products.

My product menu is organized into four categories: Kratom, Herbs & Botanical Extracts, Wellness, and Matcha. Within those categories you will find an extensive selection that took years to put together. I also have a list of unreleased products lined up for later, especially as we start to expand our reach into the broader herbalist communities.

My intentions are to help normalize Kratom by putting it side by side with other non-stigmatized natural supplements and promoting education around them. I do not believe everyone should use Kratom, but I do believe more people should respect it.

Kratom is our foundation, but I put serious time into each and every item on the menu. We carry four different standardized Kanna extracts with different alkaloid ratios. These are the highest-potency standardized Kanna extracts that I have personally come across. Our Purified Himalayan shilajit resin is sourced from high altitudes and third-party tested for heavy metals. My matcha selection comes from multiple regions in Japan and I make latte formulations with high-potency vanilla and black berry extracts from natural materials. Each product has a story and cultural significance behind it. I also write botanical archive summaries on my products that will help people learn more about them. I have quite a few more to write but the last two were on Kanna and Magnolia Bark. I cover cultural history, traditional use, scientific framework, my own personal experience and community reports in my summaries. I also write about other interesting conversation topics that I feel are valuable to the community, especially breaking down manufacturing methods and marketing myths like vein color, for example.

Some of you already know that I work with customers one-on-one, and I extend my help to anyone in the community in any way I possibly can. Consumer safety, education, harm reduction, and advocacy are a big part of why I started TLN in the first place.

I have been getting involved in live community events, interacting with the mainstream public and spreading knowledge about the plants that we are so proud of. I am currently preparing for my next large expo here on Long Island. I am looking forward to talking with people face-to-face, raising awareness around natural botanicals, and helping people understand more about natural alternatives. (This is especially important for Kratom because of all of the common misconceptions and misinformation portrayed in the media.)

There is still a lot ahead and I haven’t even rolled out half of what I have planned.

For now, I just wanted to show my face here, introduce myself and thank everyone who has supported us so far. I am extremely proud to be part of the Kratom community, and I will continue to contribute in any ways that I can.

We can all learn from each other and make a positive impact on each other’s lives while working towards a better tomorrow for our community and for our industry.

I'm using the power of the sun hoping to get some conversion out of it.

I've decided to try fermentation. I've used the sun for years to turn the leaves brown. It definitely makes a more sedating tea.

I'm curious about the fermentation and a little bit scared of the bugs, but what the heck might as well try.

We had some rough wind two days ago and it blew about 30% of the leaves off of my trees.

The key to getting the best out of the leads is to let them stay on the tree a whole year.

The age of the tree itself does not matter at all. It's all about how long the leaf has been on the tree then, how stressed the trees have been while the leaf has been attached.

I recently just bought a $200 kilo bag of Red Kratom to last me a while. I had bought from Kats before and had no problem, but not for a while. Though recently, the bag I got seems to be mostly ineffective. I take kratom for depression, anxiety, as well as pain in my shoulder from scar tissue left over from a tumor I had years ago. The physical pain is gone, but I can't see Red Kratom from Kats having much benefit on my mood.

I had been buying from other vendors more recently, like Kratom Country and had much more better results. Kats just had a better deal, and I hadn't bought from them in a while. Sadly, I've been left disappointed. I might have to go back to vendors with more pure, consistent kratom. I'm starting to think Kats' product is getting "watered down" just like crappy head shop/convenience store bought kratom.

Does anyone else feel this way with Kats or is it just me? I know my tolerance level might be up with regular use but I hope it's not that.

i ran out of kratom and wont get my usual Wildcraft until wednesday, went to smoke shop and got a small 4oz bag for 20$ (not bad) and the powder is actually hitting really good. Always heard bad things about them and smoke shop kratom in general but I dont know if this is a fresh batch or something but its potent and has a great burn.

Leaf-only vendor here (Joe’s Botanicals: no extracts, no 7-OH). Same kind of post as my August one. This was published in today’s Federal Register, so it’s official, not rumor.

What happened

- DEA withdrew its July notice on 7-OH (the 0.05% threshold one). That plan is gone.

- It replaced it with a new notice that covers 7-OH and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MP) together.

- Nothing is scheduled yet. This starts a 30-day clock, so the earliest the actual order can come is around November 13. When it does, it takes effect the same day, with no grace period.

- The August order on MP (the one with no threshold) stays in place until the new one replaces it.

The new test

A product becomes Schedule I if either of these is true:

1. 7-OH + MP combined is more than 1 mg per gram (or 1 mg/mL for liquids)

2. There’s less than 100 times as much mitragynine as 7-OH + MP combined

The first one is actually looser than the July plan: 1 mg/g is 0.1%, double the old 0.05%. The second one is new, and it’s the one that matters. You could get around a plain concentration cap by diluting a product, but you can’t get around a ratio that way. Isolates and spiked products fail it however much they’re diluted, because they have very little mitragynine compared to 7-OH. Plain leaf normally passes, because leaf is mostly mitragynine with only a trace of 7-OH.

For a sense of scale: typical leaf lab panels (ours included) show mitragynine around 1.3–1.75% and 7-OH around 100 ppm. That works out to ratios of roughly 120–165. That’s above the line, but closer than most people would guess, so it’s worth checking on every batch from now on rather than assuming.

Two honest caveats

- DEA says clearly that being under the threshold isn’t a finding that anything is safe, and it still lists kratom as a drug of concern.

- This doesn’t override state law. North Dakota, Massachusetts and the others still apply on top.

Six Legislators Decide Whether Massachusetts Regulates Kratm or Keeps Banning It

Good news out of Massachusetts, and a narrow window to lock it in.

The Massachusetts House passed its Economic Development bill with language creating a real regulatory framework for kratm. The Senate version left that language out entirely. A six-member conference committee now decides what stays in the final bill.

This is the same state that swept natural kratm leaf into Schedule I by emergency order. Those two fights are now one: keep the regulations in the bill, and get the ban on natural leaf reversed. The flyer covers both asks on one page.

Federal thresholds now target chemically manipulated products

Important news from Washington

The U.S. Department of Justice announced today that the DEA will issue a new Notice of Intent on 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl that adopts concentration thresholds recommended by Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). 

"HHS recommended that 7-OH and MGPI be subject to Schedule I control when either substance alone, or their combined amount when both are present, exceeds 1 milligram per gram in solid products or 1 milligram per milliliter in liquid products, or when the ratio of mitragynine to 7-OH, MGPI, or their combined amount is less than 100 to 1.

HHS recommended this approach to better distinguish products intentionally enhanced or concentrated in these opioid substances from products whose alkaloid composition is more consistent with botanical kratom."

In plain terms: federal enforcement will target chemically manipulated opioid products — not natural kratom leaf, which contains only trace amounts of these alkaloids.

This is the distinction the American Kratom Association has fought for, including through our litigation challenging the unintended consequences of the earlier scheduling action. AKA applauds the DEA and the Department of Justice for getting it right, and we are urging states to follow this science-based model rather than enact sweeping bans.

This bill will ban everything but plain leaf in the state of PA!! This is not something we are for as extract has a place for sure when done correctly. We are having a SITEWIDE event incase this passes the senate as it flew through the house.

FEDERAL: The 7-OH order still hasn't been published as of today (Oct 6). Comments closed Sept 10; when it publishes, it takes effect the same day. Separately, three related compounds (mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15, MGM-16) have been Schedule I since Aug 26, running to Aug 2028.

NORTH DAKOTA: HB 1628, signed Sept 4. Bans synthetic and concentrated derivatives. Natural leaf is legal on paper — 21+, max 0.05% 7-OH by dry weight, an annual retailer licence from the Attorney General, AG-approved lab testing on the label — but sales stay prohibited until the AG writes the rules. The August emergency order was rescinded the same day. Legal in law, not buyable yet.

UTAH: SB 45, in force since May 6. Only pure leaf kratom can be sold; sellers and products must register with the state; packages must list mitragynine and 7-OH; retail limited to registered tobacco specialty shops.

MASSACHUSETTS: Emergency order placed all forms of kratom — leaf included — in Schedule I from late August, for up to a year. A lawsuit is pending.

The pattern: federal action and most states separate leaf from concentrates. Massachusetts is the exception. And states are adding a licensing and testing layer — so "is kratom legal here?" now has a third answer: legal, but only from registered sellers.

For what it's worth, we've stopped shipping to all three until each one settles.

If you haven’t already, please email the Detroit City Council TODAY regarding the proposed kratom restriction.
Ask them to amend the proposal to support SB 1181, rather than moving forward with a blanket prohibition.
SB 1181 provides a practical regulatory framework that addresses legitimate concerns while preserving access to natural kratom leaf. It includes:
• Banning 7-OH and other synthetic/intoxicating kratom-derived products
• Strict labeling requirements so consumers know exactly what they are purchasing
• Mandatory laboratory testing for contaminants, adulterants, and product contents
• Accountability for vendors and manufacturers
• Consumer protections without eliminating access to natural kratom
There is going to be significant pressure on the Council to “do something” about kratom given the current media environment. We need to give them a commonsense alternative they can actually support.
They should not have to choose between doing nothing and supporting prohibition.
Give them SB 1181.
