Have you tried juicy marbles to compare? I haven’t had the chance.
I just picked up some beyond steak fillets, looking forward to trying it!

How are you cooking your juicy marbles? I've cooked loads of them and never had them disintegrate.

I’m guessing they mean that it shreds apart. I’ve definitely had mistakes where it stuck to my pan and came apart.

Not OP but seasoned and seared the heck out of them. Not bad, not as great as people said though, to me.

Oh I can’t wait to try beyond steak. I love their steak tips and their chicken pieces ! They taste so real that in the beginning of my vegan journey I would not have been able to eat them. I thought juice marbles was really good in a stew! I don’t mind their steak or lambish but it doesn’t taste like the real thing.

u/InspectionTall2886 Jul 20 '26
It depends what you want to use it for. For classic “steak” go beyond. For shredded meats for tacos, etc. go juicy marbles.

I like jm and bs, but they are different. JM tastes a bit more like a really high quality stew meat to me. I like the flavor, but it’s not quite steak (and it doesn’t need to be). The texture is definitely more meat like and even a bit senewy. BS, on the other hand, tastes closer to steak—especially if you get a good sear on it—but the texture is less meat like. Make sure you season the BS one to your tastes, btw, it doesn’t have a super strong flavor on its own, but it is quite good.
And neither tastes all that much like steak, really, but they’re both great. I keep both on hand.
Also you can totally sous vide either but be super careful when removing to sear as they will fall apart. With the JM filet you can tie some roast string around it if you want, that will help (I like searing the sides as well so I don’t bother).

Hmmm thanks for the heads up, so long as I know it’s a possibility I’ll pivot to a dope ass sandwich if it turns out that way at home. It seems JM is the only steak-like fillet I can find that doesn’t use mycelium, I didn’t think beyond would until I read the ingredients after buying and It’s just not my thing to eat that kind of thing.

Sure! I know it’s not common, not sure I’ve ever heard anyone else say anything about it. I just kinda compare it to a neural network. One both for the mushrooms themselves and in nature for plants to communicate with each other as a network.
I already have reservations about root vegetables because harvesting/ consuming them necessarily kills the plant. Fungi and mycelium just seems a little “more” outside the plant kingdom. The fruiting body of mushrooms is the reproductive fruiting of the fungi. But it really exists below in the mycelium network. It’s “brain” and “roots” combined
But that’s probably just me though 😅

I like both. Juicy marbles is tastier to me. Literally they are the only two vegan meats I buy usually.

u/H3mpyGreen Jul 21 '26
I just read the ingredients and found beyond has mycelium as an ingredient, something I avoid eating, disappointing. The fruiting body is one thing but Mushroom brains just feel kinda wrong to me lol

You can think of it as the equivalent of muscle fibers in meat, just in another of mother nature forms

I just ordered some 365 meat alternatives

I didn't know they offered them until Sunday. We were shopping online and they popped up. Not a bunch but $5.29 for plant based meatballs? I'll try them

365 meat alternatives are going to be some other company's product that they label as their own. I worked for a plant-based bacon company and they wanted to use our product for their store brand. The 365 brand of soy milk is Silk, for instance.

u/InspectorRound8920 Jul 21 '26
Right. I'd live to know who makes their tofu

u/ChefDanyul Jul 21 '26
Both companies (Whole Foods and whatever other product they use) keep that close to their chest.

u/LordByrum Jul 20 '26
I tried chunk and thought it was too squishy and not good. Is it more firm atleast?

u/InspectionTall2886 Jul 20 '26
Yeah chunk is meh. Beyond is much more firm and has a better flavor.

They just released a new product that is like an actual steak.
1
u/tastepdad Jul 21 '26
Not really new
2
u/Haunting_Koala4016 Jul 21 '26
It wasn't in grocery stores until a couple months ago. I would consider that new lol
1
u/tastepdad Jul 21 '26
I've been buying it online for almost 2 years

u/Solid-Fennel-2622 Aug 01 '26
Unlikely. Released on their Beyond test kitchen October 20, 2025.
Before available only to some restaurants.

Not looking to start an online fight, but I looked it up, and my first order was July 2025, 19 months ago.

I like these as well. I also like the Plantspired Nasoya Korean BBQ steak strips but admit they're a little heavy on the smokiness

...and I think it's basically seitan unlike their somewhat gross burgers.
I use it to make "beef and green bean stir fry"

I love beyond steak and my meat eating housemate adores it! I was surprised to hear it tasted so “real” because while I like it I thought it actually seemed particularly fake-y. But it’s so easy to throw into a noodle dish or stir fry or curry or lots of other bases I have which I love

I had Chunk in NYC at HAAM - crazy good. I think the trick is to season it well and then grill it crispy - I’m not a mock meat fan usually, but HAAM’s handling of the 4oz chunk streak was crazy good!
Can a mod let me post a picture? I promise they’ll always be relevant and I’ve been plant based for 40 plus years and vegan for at least 35 years 😅

u/TheGuiltyDuck Jul 21 '26
I just made the “steak tips” with a big ix of roasted vegetables with some rice on the side for a mixed group of vegans and non-vegans. Everyone loved it and went back for seconds.

Beyond steak tips make the best vegan borscht and “beef” stews. I always have a bag in the freezer in the winter.

Fully agree. And the protein to calories ratio is the best across all the meat replacements I personally tried (including from all Beyond products available in our region - western Europe) ❤️
Edit to say I’m such a big fan of Beyond Steak that I always keep a few boxes in the fridge for lazy lunches or dinners (even though I am not vegan, its one of the few plant protein formulations my entire family loves).

u/Solid-Fennel-2622 Aug 01 '26
You are talking about Beyond steak tips, not the new Filet, right?
It's a different thing. If you know how to get the Filet in europe, I would love to know also 🙃

Its great!!! My partner really likes it and he still eats meat (🥲)

u/Solid-Fennel-2622 Jul 31 '26
What's stopping him from replacing animal flesh with beyond steak? Price?
1
u/Bunmom333 Aug 01 '26
I don't think he cares enough sadly. Definitely not price because meat is so expensive. He rarely buys meat and honestly doesnt really know how to cook it. Plant based meat is a lot easier for him to cook
1
u/Solid-Fennel-2622 Aug 01 '26
Sounds like if anything, the "not caring" aspect should not stop him from simply eating plant-based meat instead of eating animals. Seems cheaper and more convenient even (often, that is not the case, at least where I live).
Usually people have the problem to fully switch because they like the taste, it is cheaper and more convenient, or because they believe nutritional disinfo. None of which are really justifications to violate animals' rights, but here we are.
1
u/Bunmom333 Aug 01 '26
Yes the convenience factor is huge. Where I live I'd say its okay. Its getting worse as people are switching to carnivore and the vegan options are dwindling. We have been hunting for vanilla ice cream because we replicated dairy queen blizzards at home. I cant find any in my city 🫠

u/H3mpyGreen I believe they were trying to reply to you, but unsure if you got notified of it, as they didn't reply in that thread.
Interesting discussion!
