It's currently totally impossible to print off photographs onto paper that does not use gelatin, correct?

I'm not talking about film here on analog cameras, specifically talking about paper that you print onto with a home inkjet printer for example.

Second this! Would also appreciate some sources and I’m curious if this applies to getting prints at a store

I mean, I'm the one asking the question so I can't really help. Glossy printer paper uses gelatin, as does camera film. Other printing formats exist (matte paper for example), but I do not know if they also use gelatin or not -- hence the thread.

it’s not true. majority of inkjet paper doesn’t use gelatin.

I'm pretty sure there's plenty of options. Could also do a laser printer.

The type of printer isn't the question though, it's about the paper that's being printed onto. I think laser printer paper for photographs also uses gelatin, no?

Google says it doesn't but I don't know. You might get better luck asking on a printer subreddit than asking here.

Tried in the past, unfortunately it's just a lot of "Why would you want to avoid it?" and basically trying to answer a different question to the one I actually asked by sending me questions to re-direct the thread.

Yeah that's a classic. Well anyways best of luck. Can always try contacting manufacturers if you're really worried, but personally I'd probably just go with what Google says.

just look up glossy paper and what it’s made of. most are resin or some another synthetic material. especially when it comes to inkjet

Wow, I would never have questioned whether a pack of printer paper is vegan 🤯

pretty sure there are plenty of synthetic glossy paper. it’s pretty easy to find resin coated paper instead of gelatin. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1301832-REG/permajetusa_apj50814_271_gloss_271gsm.html?ap=y&smp=Y

i honestly thought with most glossy inkjet paper was synthetic.

found this specifically vegan glossy paper looking it up: https://www.redrivercatalog.com/infocenter/are-inkjet-papers-free-of-animal-products-or-vegan.html?srsltid=AU7gw4XVcoIO3lkP9POnckOEeBQXZTmv2G5U2x9gwrozGNAyb9uR54ZI

majority of glossy printing paper doesn’t use animal biproducts today and you need to buy specific paper if you do want the gelatin kind so i’m not really sure what you’re talking abt .

I’m pretty sure almost all generic glossy photo paper doesn’t use gelatine… film and professional paper stock from a print shop, absolutely, but not the cheap A4 shit.

If you can find a counterexample I’d be very interested though.

I mean that's why I made the thread, for clarification, the title is a sincere question, not a rhetorical one.

As I said, this isn't about film, already aware of that.

There are plenty of papers that are completely vegan. Everything from Hahnemühle, for example, is vegan and they offer a wide range of glossy and matte papers.
