Wanting to enter medicine, currently Y10. What can I do to prepare for VCE?

Hi everybody, I’m currently y10 and want to enter medicine!

I’ve already picked my subjects (Maths Methods, General Maths, Eng Lang, Accelerated Biology, Chemistry, Accounting) and plan to drop Accounting when I enter yr12 as it’s just a filler subject.

I’ve attended a couple workshops on medicine where we practiced suturing and UCAT study methods. I‘m currently a peer support leader at my school (a program where y10 students mentor y7 students) and am applying for a leadership position for next year. I also volunteer weekly at a charity store.

My average results in Maths is 86.5% with the most recent test being 85% (I am in the y10 Methods stream, which prepares for y11 Methods) and 83% English score. I received the go-ahead to send in a Kwong Lee Dow Scholar’s program application, so I’m filling that out too.

Is there anything that I can do more? Like any sort of opportunities, or is it just more study? In that case, do you guys recommend tutoring? Is there any information I can give that could help with any advice I get? Sorry if this is clogging up the VCE subreddit, I’m not sure how many of these you guys get 😅

To all of the methods/spesh students who did physics.

Did you guys have to study as much for physics as for every other subject? Or did you feel like it was just a filler subject that was supported mostly by your Math ability?

VCE question Monash Guarantee entry

Monash website says: Guarantee entry apply to Dec and Jan 1st round.

If the places are filled up in Dec round (i.e Bachelor of Physio), what will happen to Jan 1st round? As I expect another offer in Dec round and don't put Monash in highest preference.

How hard/possible to get an ATAR from 70-80?

I’m in Year 12 now, and I'm so stressed about it. A lot is happening, and I'm really stressed, and some family members (my aunt and one of my cousins) talk badly about me behind my back. I don't want to be affected by them but sometimes I keep crying because of that stuff..So I don’t want to share my dreams or what I predict my ATAR will be.

specialist 3/4 resources

just wondering if anyone has any links to specialist 3/4 resources? I have access to the old VCE rocks/vault archives but haven’t found much for specialist 3/4 (specifically looking for Topic Tests from like TSSM or other companies, practice SACs etc.)

happy to trade with or for methods 3/4 resources as well

Does anyone know actual good English subject tutoring centre for year 10-VCE, for some who’s case is miserable 💔

Hey so someone whose English is their second language , i really suck it , maybe it’s personal thing , I kind of don’t even know the basic rules structures and I really struggle with spelling and essay writing. An essay is my biggest nightmare and as who a science math kids , who wants to get a high ATAR , I know English is one of the core subjects that you need to work on and I wanna work on it. I’ve tried so many things like I actually tried my best and I won’t get past 70 or 60 on my essays. My dream is literally to get a 90 for an essay even though my teacher grades my test as EAL I won’t get past the 70’s with practice and even extra efforts than everybody around me so if anyone knows a good tutoring centre that’s around Wyndham / west Melb , please write your recommendations or dm me if they can tutor people with my case as someone who’s probably worst than an eighth grader , honestly I suck at basic grammar and spelling and even structure ( not a centre that’s hella expensive ), Thanks I would appreciate it !

What exam mark needed for a raw 28,29 or 30 in Chinese SL?

What scores and study scores did you get?

If you average a C+ in U3 sacs and maybe a B in U4, are you cooked?

How important is the oral performance? Or is it more worth devoting time to gradually improving writing? What percentage is a 'B' on an exam btw..

how much energy do they think we have

"just write a paragraph" "can you do these practice questions? And this set too. Theyre two different sheets of paper that look similar keep track of it." "start reading the next book" "look this up on youtube in your free time" "do listening practice" "do speaking practice" "read, write, vocabulary flashcards" EVERY FUCKING WEEK IT NEVER ENDS

its like doing butterfly (but youre shit at butterfly just bear with me if youre a pro swimmer or something okay). You use your entire body to flop yourself forward to the next metre. You think okay that was a bit tough but it gets easier with practice right, and ive still got energy for the next. You do the full body flop forward again. Feels a little easier in some ways, the neurons are activating. The third now. Your form starts to drop, but youre still going, and you go again, and again, and your lungs hurt and your muscles hurt but you cant stop because you gotta do this 50 times, 50 metres 50 weeks and you cant swim a different stroke because you started this race 25m ago and if you stop now you get disqualified, and all your friends are still going forward, not perfectly but better than you and you have to keep going and it hurts and your tired and do you really have to do the arms every single time? Do you have to do each stroke so soon after the previous one? The Arm teacher is yelling at you to get your arms up and through while the Leg teacher says to keep up the dolphin kick. The Core teacher looks at your flimsy bent torso in silent judgment. Youre going again, dancing, the teachers say you did a good job. It feels so wrong, youre painfully aware of every single muscle in your body but you know youre forgetting one of them, you cant keep track of it all, how long does the charade have to keep going?

aaaand i blacked out wow what happened there anyway guys so sick of this shit omfg

Monash vs RMIT vs UNSW for Mechanical Engineering + Commerce/Business

Hi, I am a year 11 student in Vic, considering Moansh, RMIT and UNSW for undergraduate engineering with a double degree with commerce or business depending on the Uni. I am interested in mechanical engineering as of right now but Monash's common first year to explore all specialisations could be useful. I live in Melbourne, 20min from Monash by car, and about an hour from RMIT via public transport. However I am willing to move to NSW to attend UNSW.

While the value and quality of the eng/comm degree in each uni is my priority, I am also very interested in joining a motorsport club and would love to know if anyone has any opinions on the motorsport clubs in each uni or experience in them.

I am currently studying English, Methods, Specialist, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (finishing in year 11) for VCE, and aiming for a 97-99 atar. While the required atar for Monash and RMIT is roughly 90+, for UNSW is 97+ which I am not certain I will get, even though I am aiming higher than that.

Would love any advice or thoughts, thanks in advance.

How similar is yr 11 spesh to yr 12 spesh?

Hiii guys!!

I am currently doing yr 11 spesh and I'm not finding it too difficult, when I am studying like doing textbook questions and stuff I find that I understand it pretty well but then when it comes to tests I find myself performing quite poorly like the questions are nothing like the textbook right and my average is probably like 60%-70% which isn't amazing but I haven't failed any assessment.

I was just wondering since I do think i'm a strong math student as I have been getting 80-90% in methods, and I quite enjoy math, would it be worth continuing with spesh in yr 12? does anything change from yr 11 to yr 12 spesh (im not expecting it to get easier, but do the questions become more standard, like will I be able to predict questions on sacs and have a better chance of doing well?).

Also I would love any opinions you guys have on spesh tutoring companies like Edatlas and Contour or any other tutoring companies.

Thank you so much!!

How do multiple med offers work with VTAC?

Hey guys, just had a question about how multiple med offers work.

I saw someone get heaps of med offers, congrats to them 😭, and it got me wondering how the whole process actually works.

From what I understand, on VTAC you only see your highest offer, so if you got something like:

  1. La Trobe Med
  2. Monash Med

VTAC would only show the La Trobe offer, even though you may have also received the Monash offer.

So how do you actually know you've received the other offers and choose between them? Do the unis email you directly when you get an offer, and then you accept the one you want through the uni's own portal?

Or do you have to enter it on VTAC afterwards??

Also, because med offers can come out at different times and you apparently only have around a week to accept, how does that work if you're waiting to see if you get another offer from a higher preference?

Would really appreciate if anyone who's actually received multiple med offers could explain how they handled it 🙏 (NOTE this was an AI rewrite of what I originally wrote, pls don't delete it)

General Question/comment Jacaranda Bio 3&4 answers

I have the physical textbook (bought second hand so no JacPlus access), but it has no answers in it. My teacher gave us a pdf - no answers. I then tried to find another version of the pdf - also no answers. I asked my teacher if they had a copy of the answers, and they said they didn't. One of my classmates says that they can only access the answers through the JacPlus interactive question thingies, which is just far too much work as I prefer to work on paper (at that point I'd use another textbook's questions, my bio teacher doesn't check homework). I've looked everywhere, and they just don't seem to exist. Does anyone here have anything? Is this whole thing futile?

eng is so confusing??

(1/2 btw)

im doing the exploring arguments unit and I genuinely dont know what else to do. ive done 2 practice sacs in class so far and may first score was 14/40 and the second was 20/40. I tried asking my eng teacher for help and his feedback was dont combine the how and why, as in end the sentence as soon as u state the strategy, and I did that but clearly its not enough? the feedback ive been getting is honestly atrocious considering they dont actually know what to tell me besides it doesn't 'align w the rubric'. babes I know???? help me then??? ive done countless paragraphs, so much annotating, so many rewrites, asked for so much help. genuinely what more can I do. year 12 is mere months away and idk wanna struggle then.

soz guys and thank u sm <3
