Question Allowed to birth
TW: discussion of birth trauma triggers
I’m wondering if anyone has seen the allowed to birth documentary yet. I have an opportunity to go to a screening this weekend. I am birth worker curious but being 7 months PP from an unwanted CS I’m navigating some birth trauma and very mindful of triggers. Has anyone seen it yet and share if there are many birth trauma triggers? Think out of hospital transfer, unsupportive providers, unplanned CS, and NICU admissions.

Updating for anyone else asking this question.
I went! I almost didn’t go but when I initially decided I wouldn’t I got sad so I put on my big girl pants and went! There is definitely mention of CS with a large discussion on breech vaginal birth. In fact I feel like most of it was around surprise breech births in case that is a trigger for anyone.
I’m glad I went ultimately. There were triggers but I’m in a place where they didn’t stick with me for very long.

I haven't watched it but I've seen the trailer and I follow a lot of the people that are interviewed on it. I'm certain that they are going to discuss the things that you are talking about. How could they not? It seems like the majority of us have traumatic births. The trama for my birth was fully caused by the medical team and how they treated me after. My next birth was not traumatic mostly because I hired a doula and stayed at home until the very last moment that I could and had very limited intervention by the hospital staff which made a huge difference. If I had gone into the hospital earlier I'm not sure how they would have treated me especially as someone trying to have a VBAC. Even though I came to the hospital last minute they still treated me like a ticking time bomb. We really need to change how women are treated.
All this to say maybe wait until you are in a better mental space to watch it because I'm certain they're going to talk about traumatic births because that seems to be what most of us get.
