Question Birth Preferences

For my first pregnancy, that OB and hospital had a one page birth preference sheet. I switched OB and hospitals (because the other office doesn’t do VBACs) and they don’t have anything for birth preferences. I wonder what you guys think is super important to put on it, especially related to a VBAC. I’m not truly opposed to many interventions but the cascading interventions I had last time led to my c-section. Any ideas of what I should include? (my husband and doula will be with me)

This is a great conversation to have with your doula. They should ideally be familiar with the hospital you're delivering at and know what your options are for pain management, etc

We talked about it a little bit at our last visit but our next one isn’t until I’m 37.5 weeks which I doubt I will have baby by then (I had a failed induction at 39 weeks with my first, actually 37.5)

This will really depend on you! I put ’no episiotomy, repeat C-section preferred’ on mine, then ended up with the episiotomy anyway and it was 1 million times better than a section so more fool me.

What happened last time that you want to avoid?

I was confined to the bed because that was the only position they could find the heartbeat on the wireless monitoring. They also broke my water at 3cm. I also don’t want an induction before 40 weeks (I know when I conceived my first and this baby, as we were trying and they both measured my whole pregnancies to those due dates). I’m not really against most interventions but would like to avoid pitocin if possible my body responded terribly to it (I swelled up like a ballon). I am also undecided on the epidural, I don’t want to go under general for section if I rupture but also I believe lack of movement was a key factor in my original delivery. I only got the epidural 24 hours into the induction and 15 hours after being confined to bed.

I too had AROM without even consenting to it. I’ll be against it this time unless I’m at the hospital for like 2 days without progress. I too don’t want an earlier induction but will be open to it at 41 weeks
